How often do you wipe the fronts of your cupboard?

About 6 months ago we had a new kitchen installed. It awakened the dormant clean freak in me. I probably wipe the fronts of the cupboards 2/3x a week (45 sec job when done regularly). But God forbid I skip a week…It will look like they haven’t been touched in years.

I do live with a dog who gets walked in the muddiest part of the woods behind us (I can thank DH for that who likes “his” route).

This can’t be normal.

My DH apparently just flings food and drink around the kitchen so I end up wiping them all the time!

OneTC · 21/02/2024 14:35

Just when they've been splashed

LoveFood · 21/02/2024 14:36

It's done by our cleaners once a fortnight. I then do the cupboards around where we cook/wash up once or twice a week while I'm tidying up after dinner. Usually just a quick wipe down.

Ours are light grey/pink and what amazes me is how no one ever notices they need doing (even me - I usually realise because I've spilt something while cooking that's quite obvious) but doing them transforms how the kitchen feels when you walk in.

WiddlinDiddlin · 21/02/2024 14:38

Every five bastarding minutes...

Shaker style, matt dark grey finish and it shows every mother fucking finger mark, water mark, hint of grease in existance. Fart and there'll be a mark. Bloody things, actually starting to wish I'd gone for gloss instead!

They have to be wiped very neatly and carefully with Koh and a magic sponge in a very precise manner... and even then then there will be some streaking.

It would seem DP has to maul and molest every surface in the kitchen, the number of hand prints there are... I actually caught myself saying 'DON'T TOUCH... USE THE FUCKING HANDLES' yesterday!

IggOrEgg · 21/02/2024 14:39

Once a week/once every ten days? They’re cream, and we’ve several dogs, a toddler and we are farmers… they probably need doing more often than that but frankly I have more important/better things to do!

I did the same thing the other day. I swear he thinks the handles are decorative

AllTheChaos · 21/02/2024 14:40

I’m with @ErrolTheDragon, @Norpeth, and @CuriousityKilledThePussy

If they aren’t actually looking grubby (and I actually notice!) they aren’t getting wiped!

Shivermetimbers13 · 21/02/2024 14:41

I'm a Proper Mumsnetter, so I do mine every hour.

The rest of the time, I'm changing beds, cooking from scratch, ironing the cat and making sure everyone changes their clothes each time they come back into the lounge.

Firsttimebabymama · 21/02/2024 14:41

Once a week, they're shaker and collect dust more than anything

AllTheChaos · 21/02/2024 14:41

LTB @WiddlinDiddlin !!

anon199900 · 21/02/2024 14:41

All the bloody time. South facing room which shows every piece of muck and they look filthy after a day.

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 21/02/2024 14:43

Twice a week probably. They are dark and Matt and I can’t be doing with the finger prints!

Interesting. At the last minute I changed my mind on matte light grey and went for dark grey. Only to revert back to light as I was convinced our kitchen couldn’t handle anything that bold.

What are the lowest maintenance finishes/colours for cupboards? I’m happy enough with our shaker dove grey.

Just realising what a minger I am! I clean every inch of my kitchen every day, but for some reason, I completely overlook the doors!

mylifeisprettygood · 21/02/2024 14:49

A couple of times a day when I'm home. I've got cream gloss and loathe kitchen handles so went for a lip on the doors instead. Easy enough to open unless you're one of my kids who have to put their rotten hands over everything, even cupboards they are not opening. Fingerprints are one of the banes of my life. Plus inside out clothing and trousers still with the pants inside when I do the daily laundry. Boys. But that's another story.

Catza · 21/02/2024 14:50

We have a large dog and beige cupboard doors. I probably have to wipe them once every couple of months. Unless someone cooked beetroot soup which seems to get on everything.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 21/02/2024 14:50

Mine are grey/beige gloss (came with the house when we bought and was a new kitchen) and i have a 7yr old so probably 5-6 times a week :-D
Splashes just need a damp tea towel, hand prints a microfibre cloth so it's quick and easy thankfully

TheSnakeCharmer · 21/02/2024 14:52

Once or twice a week, but they are Matt black and show every drip mark and bit of dust.

Belovedbagle · 21/02/2024 14:53

They're cleaned twice a week as they show all fingerprints.

Chypre · 21/02/2024 14:53

Weekly. Spray and wipe without even looking, mine are gloss finish and depending on the way the light is falling they will look either shiny and spotless either all soiled and marked, so I just wipe without thinking too much.

TwylaSands · 21/02/2024 14:54

Frequently as I think dh throws food directly at them when he cooks.

SnapdragonToadflax · 21/02/2024 14:56

The cleaner does it every two weeks. I love her, but I do think it's somewhat unnecessary. Left up to me I probably did it a couple of times a year when they looked really grubby, though would obviously wipe up big spills and splashes as they happened.

Cupboards are creamy-white Shaker style. No streaks, it's a matt wood finish so I can't really see how you would see streaks? Maybe it's the lighting in people's kitchens that is the problem, spotlights are horribly glarey.

DillDanding · 21/02/2024 14:56

Once a week. I love going over the whole kitchen with bleachy water.

FunkyMonks · 21/02/2024 14:57

Once a week I'll wipe down kitchen frontals and side panels and handles.
I'll wipe down any grubby marks I see as and when I spot them we have white gloss so shows finger print marks etc all the time.
Defiantly wouldn't have a gloss kitchen again we inherited the kitchen when we bought the house and it's not that old so not planning on getting a new one any time soon.
