How often do you wipe the fronts of your cupboard?

About 6 months ago we had a new kitchen installed. It awakened the dormant clean freak in me. I probably wipe the fronts of the cupboards 2/3x a week (45 sec job when done regularly). But God forbid I skip a week…It will look like they haven’t been touched in years.

I do live with a dog who gets walked in the muddiest part of the woods behind us (I can thank DH for that who likes “his” route).

This can’t be normal.

How does anyone ever have time to do all of these “quick job if done daily” tasks. Once every 6 months here and reading this makes me feel like I’m failing at everything!

ApoodlecalledPenny · 21/02/2024 16:19

I’ve never thought “those cupboard forts look dorty”. I do wipe them, maybe once a week. They look the same before and after.

Februaryismyfavourite · 21/02/2024 16:22

Everyday. Mine are glossy white with silver handles and it's so obvious they need wiping! When the low winter afternoon sun comes in its even worse.

I do like everything perfect though - I didn't realise you wouldn't just give them a wipe each day!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 21/02/2024 16:22

Once a week.

GlitterBall91 · 21/02/2024 16:23

every day haha but I live in a flat with a teeny kitchen so it takes all of about 12 seconds

A Proper Mumsnetter would never say ‘lounge’!

I do mine about once a month

What would a Proper Mumsnetter say? I must know!!!

Every day as have white cupboards

I have white cupboards and do it maybe once every few months. But no kids/pets to make them dirty!

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 21/02/2024 16:29

Tbh it sounds like both gloss and Matt are just as bad as each other in this thread! I’m not even sure what finish mine is tbh, it’s painted wood, it doesn’t show finger prints, but does get dusty!

CharlotteBog · 21/02/2024 16:31

Gosh, what an advert for NOT getting white and/or glossy cupboards, and dogs and small children
Mine are dated and awful and beige and get wiped if I can see a spill on them.
I don't recall needing to clean them more when the children were small. A bit more I suppose.

Meanwhile, up in the new bathroom there are very strict rules on how to keep the shower stall glass and chrome looking sparkly!

ICanSeeMyHouseFromHere · 21/02/2024 16:36

Mine are a kind of shaker style greeny greige sort of colour (looks nicer than it sounds), and I do it every couple of months - but it's a 15 year old kitchen, and TBH could do with a repaint from kids (OK, and me) knocking it about. It's mainly fingerprints around the handles, tea drops on the draws near the kettle and less savoury stuff around the dishwasher/bin. TBH I could stand to do it a bit more often...

The ridge bits are a nightmare, and round the metal handles - every time I wipe it down I think 'I should get a toothbrush and do that properly' - I've not done it yet.. maybe this will spur me on to do so though.

VimtoEverywhere · 21/02/2024 16:40

Hardly ever, they are oak and the wood grain seems to hide most things pretty well. I'll make a mental note never to get white gloss 😅

TheMainCharacter · 21/02/2024 16:42

I wipe off any fingerprints as I see them (sometimes just with my sleeve 😳) but they’re properly wiped down every couple of weeks. I used to do them every Wednesday without fail but I clean a bit less now

SoftPillowAllNight · 21/02/2024 16:44

Don't know what I'm missing here but I only ever wipe them if I notice a stain - which is quite rare. My cleaner probably wipes them now and again but I've never noticed them looking very clean or dirty. They are shaker style - midnight blue so nothing shows them unless it's a white stain. So glad that someone made this great choice before I bought the house Grin

dontforgetme · 21/02/2024 16:46

Mine are white gloss so every day. Never again!

naffall · 21/02/2024 16:49

About twice a week which isn't often enough for the black gloss cupboards we are stuck with atm.

DinoMummsy · 21/02/2024 16:54

Only if something gets spilled on them tbh. 🤣 Ours are wooden so don't show the dirt/dust the same way as white ones do.

Aroundthewaygirl · 21/02/2024 16:55

About once every 2/3 weeks. I used to do it more but have gotten lazier as I get older.

MudandMoet · 21/02/2024 17:02

Vipoli · 21/02/2024 14:13

Cupboards are a very light greige.

Mine are too, I wipe the fronts of mine down weekly (unless I spill or splash something in between cleans)

PandaCory · 21/02/2024 17:34

I seem to be wiping fingerprints off the same few door every 5 minutes, funnily enough they're the doors the kids use to get their snacks. The kitchen company said fingerprints wouldn't show up (dark matt units). They lied. Or my kids have the dirtiest hands in the known universe.

Alargeoneplease89 · 21/02/2024 17:36

Everyday as my teens can't understand the concept of handles and the gloss shows fingerprints that annoy me

flatmop · 21/02/2024 17:42

Once a year if I'm honest 🙈 Every once in a while I get fed up a messy house and start following The Organised Mum Method. I get in the swing of it, sometimes I don't even need the full 45 minutes a day. I get fed up of DH not helping (stuck on a work call, going out or just busy when I get home and want to get started) and it slips into our old standards because I hate being the only one cleaning.

misskatamari · 21/02/2024 15:07

Flipping heck, I’m shocked by this thread! Probably about once a year when I notice them here 😳😳😳

Thank God. Me too.

HelpMeGetThrough · 21/02/2024 17:56

Once a day, maybe twice. They are the bloody high gloss ones that show everything.

What a great idea it was to have those!!!

FizzyWizzyBubbles · 21/02/2024 17:58

Min 1 a week. Quick spray And wipe. White units.
