I read something recently that suggested walking up stairs on tiptoes to build up calf muscles....

Is this not the ONLY way to walk up stairs? I've always walked up stairs on tiptoes and can't imagine an other way...

Am I weird?

(And yes, I've always had good calf muscles)

i just hobble like a fat c**t

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 19/02/2024 21:47

Mums house, up on all fours. Anywhere else I run up on tip toes. Oh except the time I had to wear stupidly heavy safety boots at work. Tried running up the stairs on tiptoes and just ended up flat on my face instead

40% rolypoly, 60% banister slide down.

Meditation levitation up, naturally!

If I’ve had enough protein for a good fart then methane jet propelled up.

I think anything fast paced is best done on tip toe

PuttingDownRoots · 19/02/2024 21:49

I alternate between the Macarena, the YMCA and ghostbusters. It gets wierd looks in public... but life is too short not to randomly dance

I was going to comment "Slowly because I'm a lard arse with dodgy knees" but yours is a more accurate description for me 🤣

IthinkIamAnAlien · 19/02/2024 21:50

I go up on all fours or two at a time (good for the glutes). Since I injured my knee, I've learnt to come downstairs backwards holding onto one banister, it's fun and fast, like being a fireman.

BotterMon · 19/02/2024 21:50

Go up walking on my hands and do the Bum Bump coming down. Breaks up cellulite

lalaloopyhead · 19/02/2024 21:51

I just went up to check, ran not quite on tip toes but definitely not heel down.
I cleaned my teeth while I was up there and forgot to notice how I come back down...

Awrite · 19/02/2024 21:53

I did know that I hold my boobs running down stairs when braless. It reminds me of my Mum in the 80's doing her exercises. She used to run on the spot holding hers.

I didn't know that I ascended stairs on my tip toes. Not until just now.

So, those who do it on all fours - is it an age thing, a mobility thing or just because...?

Countrylife2002 · 19/02/2024 21:56

this is my favourite thread for ages

i also sometimes go up on all 4s but stopped myself as I felt old. But I shall resume now .

Crooklodge · 19/02/2024 21:23

I've no idea actually. I'm tempted to get off my arse to go check but...

I do know I walk down the stairs on tiptoes though, caused me many an injury.

That's what I'm thinking except I'm in bed and can't be bothered to get up 'n

Probablygreen · 19/02/2024 21:59

I do all fours at home. I never really thought about it until just now, but subconsciously I must know it’s weird because I don’t do it when out and about! My kids do it too 🤣 It’s much quicker than just walking up and you’re less likely to trip. That’s what I’m telling myself anyway!

WellOwlBeDamned · 19/02/2024 22:00

I vary in style going upstairs, top is tiptoe but all fours on there too

however it’s going downstairs that is the danger zone, and not even because I tend to skip down them

I have cats, they like being on the second from top step, I have an aversion to big lights

you can see the problem (even if I can’t 😂)

Redglitter · 19/02/2024 22:00

I don't go up stairs often but if I do - all 4s - literally a game changer

THisbackwithavengeance · 19/02/2024 22:02

Sorry? People go up stairs on all fours?

Like crawling on hands and knees?

What the actual hell?

Surely not Grin

BobnLen · 19/02/2024 22:03

NorrisToenail · 19/02/2024 22:05

Another one on all 4s...I thought I was weird until this thread

Dunnoburt · 19/02/2024 22:06

2 at a time and I always count in my head....2,4,6,8 etc.

Nooo, hands and feet!

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 19/02/2024 22:06

I tend to do 2 at a time and feel kind of inbalanced if I have to do 1 at a time but it does depend on the depth of each stair I think. I’ve always wondered why this is. Someone asked me why I do 2 at a time, they said I look weird doing it but I just have to.

@THisbackwithavengeance yes we do this

You can go at quite a speed, especially if you’re chasing a child 🤣
I usually slap each stair hard with my palms. It’s definitely a noisy way to go upstairs

Cheeseismyfavourite · 19/02/2024 22:08

When no-ones looking all fours there’s something very nostalgic about it - I feel like a kid again

Probablygreen · 19/02/2024 22:08

NorrisToenail · 19/02/2024 22:06

Yes, hands and feet. It’s more like going up using your feet but using your hands a few stairs up for balance.

Mine is like dodgems because I have a cat
