Before I start, I know it’s none of my business but I’m nosy so can’t help it !!

I know a couple who are both teachers and they just seem to have endless cash & I can’t work out where they get it from ! They’ve got a nice 4 bed house that they kitted out with brand new furniture the moment they moved in, she drives a brand new Range Rover and he’s just bought a Porsche, every school holiday they go away - proper 5* luxury breaks, they both have Rolexes, she’s got a massive engagement ring etc.

Do teachers get paid the sort of salaries that give you this lifestyle ?! I feel like I’m in the wrong job !

Could be geography teachers? Due to a loop hole in school funding they are paid 3x the national average so probably 100k+ each

They're really not...

You’re right, it really isn’t your business.

Agreed.
What an odd thread.

Money laundering?

Wouldn't be MN without regular how do they afford it threads!

People always say debt, but you don't get unlimited credit. At this level, it's nearly always family bankrolling (or the odd big win or investment paying off).

I know a couple like this. The Porsche is an electric one through his dad's business and their parents bought them their house.

Lampslights · 20/02/2024 17:13

It is really none of your business. It’s their finances.

hufflepuffbutrequestinggriffindor · 20/02/2024 17:14

I can only summise that they must both be promoted quite highly. I'm a classroom teacher in Scotland, our pay is better than in England and our housing market is a lot cheaper too and I definitely could not afford those things! (I drive a Dacia and own a 3 bed terrace in a less desirable area).

Only fans.

WeAreBorg · 20/02/2024 17:21

Ewww they own a Range Rover so I’d guess they steal rare birds eggs(using their PE tree climbing skills) and sell them at grossly inflated prices on the dark web

Assume the house is mortgage free as a starting point. Then think of all their joint income going towards bills and fripperies. Would that explain the money?

Teaching pay grades are available online, at senior levels they are not as badly paid as they’d lead you to believe!

This!

Not saying they're 'rolling it in' but I've never met one who isn't doing fairly well financially.

I saw the pay scales too and don't understand why they think they are paid badly 🤷‍♀️

I save my sympathy for the nurses!

It's amazing how well you can live on relatively little if you don't have debt.

I'm a single woman living in a largish 4 bed, not a Porche but a new, better than average car, I went on 7 holidays last year and have a very busy social life, which I enjoy throwing money at.

I earn £45k and it's all done on my income. There was once a mortgage, but it was paid off quickly by a few years of being more frugal and paying every spare penny into it. Other than that I've never borrowed anything, which over a lifetime has saved me ££££ and vastly reduced my monthly outgoings. The car is replaced when I've saved enough to pay for it etc.

2 time served teachers will be on £100k between them, more if they have any additional responsibilities.

You can say the same about nurses if you look at the payscales

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 20/02/2024 18:05

I’m sure the same has been said about Dh and I, since we’ve have made quite a lot of money from investments and have a private income from it. I’ve always told dh to tell people who ask that we made our money from selling scrap metal.

Thehigheroffer · 20/02/2024 18:15

People can also make money from side hustles

PopandFizz · 20/02/2024 18:28

Do they have kids? If you are sensible with money you could live like this on a teachers salary, if they are heads of department or SLT.

I used to save a grand a month for a few years in my mid twenties on not much, bought a 4 bed with partner, nice cars now we are older. Its doable for some people.
They could also have a ton of credit cards and cars are likely on finance.

Just because you know the siblings doesn't mean you know they didn't get inheritance or similar (unless you know them well enough to know their finances so intimately) they might be spending whilst siblings are saving.
They could be investors. Premium bond winners. Cryptocurrency.

The list goes on... in general teachers do not earn a shed load.

PrestonHood121 · 20/02/2024 18:41

Possibly in debt up to their eyeballs.

You sound like a right nosey Parker!
Whats it to you what they have or appear to have, maybe its inheritance, maybe its all for show and is on tick. Why are you so nosey?

Obviously drug dealing on the side.
