The carts of entitlement...

They are huge carts. On wheels. With a sort of pulley handle. That have started appearing. Left in front of every exhibit, in every zoo, museum, kids activity in general....dragged along by smug middle class dads usually, who are of course the first people on earth to ever have children...cos little Araminta and Finn might DIE if we don't lug ten tons of their crap around with us for one single day out somewhere. What the hell are these things in aid of? What have you even got in there? You look at the kids, they are like 9 years old, can they not carry a little backpack? Just awful.

Bag for life x 3 is pretty standard even in Cornwall on the beach. Never see them on the locals beaches. Firmly on the middle class bingo card along with dock and bay towels, broadsheets and any joules gear.

Ah but with one of these you don't need to carry the three bags for life. You just plop them in the waggon

MamaGhina · 19/02/2024 20:02

YANBU. The childminders here load kids into them and drag them on the school run. The pavements are narrow and busy enough without having to navigate these things stuffed full of kids too.

They've been used by parents in Germany for years on days out, I'm surprised there aren't more in the UK by now. Very practical.

@Racheltension1 something happens to middle class people when they sprog. Horses for courses and all that I just don't get why they start shopping exclusively in Cotswold it's weird.

I was hoping it was a down here (sw) thing because every other vehicle is a transporter and that's the aesthetic but the thread suggests otherwise.

Also I'd not seen a cart thing for quite a while until I fell over one at Monkey World the other week in front of the Orangutans. This thread has made me laugh 🤣

Off topic but I hope Gordon was doing well at monkey world! (He's been my adoptive boy for years! But I don't manage to get down there as often as I like!)

Tatonka · 19/02/2024 20:23

Agree, and why can't kids just walk!

pastypirate · 19/02/2024 20:24

@CatamaranViper I have an 11 and a 14 year old - with arms!

pastypirate · 19/02/2024 20:26

@Dwappy was a lush visit to monkey world. All the orangutans look fab. The kids had a lecture from me about how this is likely the only close up Orangutans they will ever see. It's so so special I love it there x

pastypirate · 19/02/2024 20:29

I think there was one at the Eden project come to think of it. Seriously you don't need all that stuff. It was a mild and dry day.

Ah I have an armless 7 year old. By armless I mean his arms are entirely useless when it comes to carrying a full bag for life.

But if they took the car that would also cause congestion and be bad for the environment too.

I've been watching the TV show about it for decades. It's got to the point I can recognise the faces most of the orangutans and chimps... 😁
I think the best thing about it is it's not a zoo. Alison, Jim and Jeremy I think would obviously have preferred never to have had to open the place in the first place. They only did it to rescue the apes and monkeys that needed it. They truly love those primates and it really is an amazing place to visit.

Monkey life! I think there's 15+ seasons now! Have a Google!
Yeah they got rid of the lemur walk through I think during covid and sadly never brought it back. I think they decided the risk was still too high for them to take.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/02/2024 20:56

I saw a few families with these at an amusement park

SD1978 · 19/02/2024 21:23

They are a pain in the absolute arse- if people used them but stayed towards the back of a crowd, fair enough. But they also seemed to be rammed front and centre of any event, and bollocks to everyone else. I initially thought they were brilliant when I saw them start to appear years ago- now they are used as sodding battering tasks by fathers on a weekend mission to 'make memories' with their family......

Goldbar · 19/02/2024 21:31

I'm going to buy one and then my 6yo can push me about in it - forget DC, I could do with the rest!

whatkatydid2014 · 19/02/2024 21:31

We live by the sea and see loads of them on the beach. I’ve debated getting one but as we can manage with a day pack each to take beach toys, towels, spare clothes, suncream, water, food & wetsuits and can strap a couple of small body boards onto one bag and pop up tent onto the other we haven’t bothered. Most of our friends with one have them to take paddleboards & associated equipment down to the beach as they are heavy to carry and they don’t want to drive just 2 mins down the road. I’ve seen them at amusement parks and zoos before and can’t say they’ve ever bothered me. We actually rented one in Amsterdam zoo when kids were tiny and it was pretty useful. We could dump the bag with nappies/wipes/clothing change/ snacks/water bottle/coats/umbrella and the kids could have a ride if they got tired. It was great not having to lug the bags around all day in the heat.

Ate old ladies with shopping trollies allowed? Big double buggies? Mobility scooters?

Sounds hard to swallow!

79redballoons · 19/02/2024 21:37

I love ours for beach trips and camping. Haven't taken it anywhere else though.

PeridotSparkle · 19/02/2024 21:43

Nomorecoconutboosts · 19/02/2024 21:47

my dcs are bigger now but I have always been one to travel very light wherever we are going.
so for example on day out each child would have backpack with what they needed including refillable drinks bottle, maybe a packed lunch/maybe not.
occasionally we’d need to buy an item, usually not.
but I can understand that others ,like to bring all the mod cons and just in case items.

Moonwatcher1234 · 19/02/2024 21:50

I’ve never heard of this before but it sounds like something I definitely need (sorry OP) any links from anyone for a good one?

110APiccadilly · 19/02/2024 22:20

I saw some on the beach last summer. At the time I had a two year old, a non-walking nearly one year old, a potty, a change bag, a beach tent, a bucket and spade, and our lunch. Apart from the two year old, all of this was somewhere about my person (the nearly one year old was in a sling) as I trudged up and down the hill. Frankly, I was jealous.

On the other hand, I don't see why you'd need one in a museum.

SpindarellaRockafella · 19/02/2024 22:29

I don’t think I’ve been on the naughty list on a mumsnet thread before.

we have one. I did a load of research and got an all terrain one with a little fold away roof and everything.

we were contemplating selling it on as perhaps we don’t need it now but it was amazing for the in between buggy and walking all day years and great if you’re out late somewhere as you can make a little bed for children for them to snuggle down. It’s seen a few shows and events and even trips to the nearby supermarket when I didn’t want to take a car but had a few bags to get and a child in tow.
