The carts of entitlement...

They are huge carts. On wheels. With a sort of pulley handle. That have started appearing. Left in front of every exhibit, in every zoo, museum, kids activity in general....dragged along by smug middle class dads usually, who are of course the first people on earth to ever have children...cos little Araminta and Finn might DIE if we don't lug ten tons of their crap around with us for one single day out somewhere. What the hell are these things in aid of? What have you even got in there? You look at the kids, they are like 9 years old, can they not carry a little backpack? Just awful.

They are owned by those parents that prepare for a day out at the national trust park as if they are climbing Everest. Full waterproofs or zip off trousers and walking boots and an all terrain pram thing.
Full middle class bingo. Op - we would get on 🤣

What then, come on?

I've already written out a list a couple of posts above your post

APurpleSquirrel · 19/02/2024 17:00

Oh yes I've used it for the village fete & sports day too - transporting cakes, plates, napkins etc. Very handy.

Only on MN is a 3yr old still using a buggy.
Mine used their feet.

Or in London where we don't all have cars and the day just isn't long enough to walk at three year old pace to and from nursery (20 mins walk adult pace) or other places when they're tired or distracted.

Only people with cars claim their kids walked everywhere 😂

I can't wait to tell everyone I'm middle class! When will I get the house and pay rise that go with that?

Haha, exactly, you know what I'm talking about!

We use them for the beach and at festivals. They're great!

pastypirate · 19/02/2024 17:05

@Racheltension1 something happens to middle class people when they sprog. Horses for courses and all that I just don't get why they start shopping exclusively in Cotswold it's weird.

I was hoping it was a down here (sw) thing because every other vehicle is a transporter and that's the aesthetic but the thread suggests otherwise.

Also I'd not seen a cart thing for quite a while until I fell over one at Monkey World the other week in front of the Orangutans. This thread has made me laugh 🤣

Boomer55 · 19/02/2024 17:05

“Only on MN is a 3yr old still using a buggy.

Yeah and mine. 🙄

TwistedSisters · 19/02/2024 17:06

I've never seen them at the zoo but they are brilliant for the beach. Seriously OP, you do a day at the beach with a water bottle and packet of wet wipes?
Swim stuff, picnic, drinks, buckets and spades, folding chairs ....I am aware you can just carry it all, but piling it in a trolley and pulling it is SO much easier! Especially ad things like cool bags tend to be very heavy and with 3 kids , there's a lot of clobber 😎.

Allfur · 19/02/2024 17:06

Not everyone owns a car

Cockapoopoopoo · 19/02/2024 17:07

I took one to paultons park and it was a game changer. It had a bag of snacks, a change of clothes, my back pack with water, purse, car keys etc, a place to put both our coats and friends coats and a place for kids to sit when tired. We were there for 10 hours, my back would've been in pieces if I had to carry everything all day

Not everyone who doesn't own a car lugs a cart about either.

And mine. And soon as they are big enough they can carry stuff to the beach - with their arms!!!

Only on MN is a 3 year old too old for a buggy

Well she is too old, mainly because she’s decided herself that she is. If she wanted to go in it I wouldn’t stop her, but she won’t be seen in it now. She starts school this September and she’d be so embarrassed if I took her in a pushchair.

SIacker · 19/02/2024 17:14

Lol at carts of entitlement. Spot on.

hagchic · 19/02/2024 17:15

OP I can see you heading to the beach only to be blocked by a barricade of these, preventing you from reaching the sea!

They do look very useful though. Might buy one - my kids can drag me around in one although I suspect I may exceed the weight limit

Racheltension1 · 19/02/2024 17:19

Nooo, all I've done is make it worse! 🤣🤣

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/02/2024 17:22

I haven’t really seen many of this but anything parked in the way, used in an inconsiderate way would annoy me!

whatahat · 19/02/2024 17:22

Oooh okay I know it's not the point but I have no car and often go to the park laden like a pack horse. It would be great to have something for toddler + crap!

Sorry OP - I promise not to block your lion Wink

Allfur · 19/02/2024 17:24

Notquitenorma, i agree, but it does seem that people are using them as car replacements, which is a great thing

Ilovelurchers · 19/02/2024 17:26

OP, I feel bad about this but the thread has made me want one too! I don't have a small child, and I'm not middle class, does that make a difference? I want it for trawling round charity shops buying my family second hand junk they neither need nor want, primarily. More mad old bag-lady than middle class mummy.

I promise I won't take it to the zoo though - I don't want anything that would distract me from getting full value for money from the animals - I have paid to see them suffer and I intend to enjoy it! ;)

Allfur · 19/02/2024 17:29

Zoos arent cheap, its a perfect middleclass day out to show off ones cart

Racheltension1 · 19/02/2024 17:31

Haha Ilovelurchers, tremendous!

So handy for unbagged shopping deliveries and lugging heavy garden waste about, I got one when we hired a beach hut for a week to transport all our guff from the car park.

Obviously wouldn't block views of lions etc with one though Confused
