The carts of entitlement...

They are huge carts. On wheels. With a sort of pulley handle. That have started appearing. Left in front of every exhibit, in every zoo, museum, kids activity in general....dragged along by smug middle class dads usually, who are of course the first people on earth to ever have children...cos little Araminta and Finn might DIE if we don't lug ten tons of their crap around with us for one single day out somewhere. What the hell are these things in aid of? What have you even got in there? You look at the kids, they are like 9 years old, can they not carry a little backpack? Just awful.

Ooh, we've got one of these! I've never been on the wrong side of a thread before, how exciting! 😂

We only take it to festivals, and only in the evening. DD sleeps in it once she gets tired so we can stay up late and drink beer rather than miss all the bands we came to see.

I wouldn't take it somewhere on a day out - possibly the beach at a push - and I wouldn't take it to, say, glasto. But our little local family friendly festivals where there's loads of space and you're not going to be clipping people's ankles, it's bloody magic.

SnowflakeSparkles · 19/02/2024 17:39

Humph. I don't drive and am definitely not middle class. I've been really wanting to get a cart as my DC are little but not buggy type little. I'd love a cart to chuck them and their bags all in on days out Grin

Racheltension1 · 19/02/2024 17:41

Jesus, at this rate with all these different uses for it I'm gonna be on the brink of buying one myself! Stop it!

I'd just like to add that I'm also really really not middle class. And I go to national trust places with my wallet, an appetite for cake, and inevitably inappropriate footwear. If that helps?

But cars aren't parked right in front of the glass panel, are they, in the zoo, when we all want to see the lion/gorilla/whatever?

No but prams and buggies are, always.

sakura06 · 19/02/2024 17:46

These are everywhere in Sweden. Mostly for carting your picnic, blankets, parasols and children to the beach or around an attraction on a day trip. They seem very useful. Surely the problem is people being inconsiderate with parking of said cart?

snoopyfanaccountant · 19/02/2024 17:53

These carts have their place but in a busy environment they are a nightmare. Disney has banned them from all their parks apart from Paris and even then they have set a maximum size limit.

unloquacious · 19/02/2024 18:46

Here in Scandinavia they have the wooden ones for rent in many places. They are great! It’s not a new thing though, they have been a thing for decades. Never seen people being inconsiderate with them. They are perfect for a picnic.

LoobyDop · 19/02/2024 18:57

How much stuff does one small child need?! I think YABU about them being a middle class status symbol though, OP. I have not yet seen them in my local Aldi, which is definitely the home of performance parenting.

RM2013 · 19/02/2024 19:00

My kids are older teens so I guess Im a bit out of the loop in terms of kids days out but this post made me giggle. - carts of entitlement thanks OP I needed cheering up today. These carts sound a little ridiculous for a museum or zoo trip

Fionaville · 19/02/2024 19:04

I love mine! I've never taken it to a museum or indoors though. Mainly the beach, festivals, camping or a anywhere we need camping chairs, coats, blankets, drinks and snacks etc It's marvellous and I wouldn't be without it!

I’m not sure what you mean- but I think I want one! Please can someone link? I’m a non-driver and usually carry huge backpacks for days out.

Put Festival cart in Amazon search they are about £70. I got one, saw someone doing the weekly shop as well using scan as u go.

butterpuffed · 19/02/2024 19:17

I live by the beach and am happy to say I've never seen any of these carts on their way there . Most people use a couple of carrier bags . They're obviously sensible cheapskates 😅. Not seen anyone with a tent either , as a pp listed . A tent !!

MeMyselfAndMyEye · 19/02/2024 19:23

OK. Totalling missing the point of the thread, but how do you go up stairs with them?

I am imaging them levitating, Dalek style. Which also explains how they blocked the lions.

You don't. You use ramps or if absolutely unavoidable you carry them.

Yup! A tent. What's wrong with a tent?

FUBAR77 · 19/02/2024 19:29

@Racheltension1 - nothing to add, just wanted to tell you you’re hilarious and I throughly enjoyed some of these responses 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Zanatdy · 19/02/2024 19:33

I agree for things like festivals / days out to the beach with all your food / drinks etc, very handy. But for a day out where you could just carry a backpack, bizarre. Handy if you’ve got a couple of young kids, like under 4, but then so is a double pushchair!

Cushionsandcaramel · 19/02/2024 19:37

Do they work on sand? Would have thought the wheels would get stuck?

I don't have small children and am now trying to find a reason to need one of these carts😂

icallitasplodge · 19/02/2024 19:39

We use them on the beach, always a good idea and the kids sleep in them if you get an awning.

who on earth would take one of these to a MUSEUM

pastypirate · 19/02/2024 19:53

An awning?????

BestZebbie · 19/02/2024 19:53

I use one in conjunction with a mobility scooter (that I'd be using anyway, not bought just for this!) to help out on scout activities.
I love the temporary transformation from slightly rubbishly stuck person who needs people to scoot things over to her if they are too far away on the mess table or do a 400 point turn, to superhero adult who can take 30 wet lifejackets 1/4 of a mile to the storage shed singlehandedly whilst everyone else herds the children back to change. It is also quite fun driving my own tiny land train...(I turn the seat sideways, steer with one hand and drag the trolley behind with the other hand).

Bag for life x 3 is pretty standard even in Cornwall on the beach. Never see them on the locals beaches. Firmly on the middle class bingo card along with dock and bay towels, broadsheets and any joules gear.

AllesAusLiebe · 19/02/2024 19:59

OP, take my advice and never visit a beach/lake resort area in Germany. It would tip you over the edge. 😂

Bigcoatweather · 19/02/2024 19:59

Sorry, that was me bringing the trend over from another country we used to live in.
About 11 years ago….couldn’t move our lovely wagon/cart on the beach in Cornwall for people stopping us to ask ‘what is that? Where did you get it?’
😄
It’s an excellent way to transport young DC, towels, toys and picnic gear.
