I have just seen Pippa Middleton’s bikini photos on the DM. Three different bikinis so far, washboard abs & nothing jiggles as she chases three kids. She could easily pass as a fibreglass mannequin. I’m wondering why it is that the Middleton women and affluent women (even middle class at my child’s school), always seem to be so impossibly slim. I struggle with my weight and I would love to see the groceries, fridge contents, packed lunchboxes and dinner plans of the other half. Obviously I know what healthy eating and cooking is but, the bodies of Mothers these days is next level. Why am I struggling to keep my tummy from flopping out while women in their 40’s pull off wearing linen mini shorts (not in UK) and high waisted jeans.

So if we eat out I'll eat a starter as a main or a fish dish. Water and no pudding. I may also have a small glass of wine.
Home food is steamed veg and fish or meat. No alcohol. Or crap like fish fingers-chips etc. Occasionally I'll eat an English style breakfast. Normally though breakfast would be avocado/toast/poached egg or something. All portions are small. I don't sit on the sofa eating or drinking trash food.
I also only eat when I'm hungry.
Those eating habits have kept me size 6-8 since I was a teen.

The usual misconceptions on this thread!

I am a size 6 with abs and I eat 3 meals a day, totalling 1,800-1,900 calories.

I eat “clean” 90% of the time (the 10% being reserved for eating out as I would hate to agonise over which restaurants I can and can’t go to because of menu options).

I do an exercise 6 days a week (sometimes two classes in one day) and I have one rest day a week. I love exercise though so I don’t see this as a chore or particularly disciplined. It’s a hobby.

I don’t own a car and I walk everywhere.

What misconceptions though?

You eat a relatively low calorie diet (given that 2,000 calories per day is considered the healthy norm for women) and exercise a lot, which is basically what people are saying PM does.

Letsgotitans · 19/02/2024 09:45

@CarrieMoonbeams haha yes totally, I would have to have it in the contract that no matter how much I begged and pleaded you must adhear to the food plan!!

Don't you get bored with this though? It does sound incredibly joyless.

Horseyhorsey, ah so they want to be fit and slim just for the men in their lives?!

Horseyhorsey, ah so they want to be fit and slim just for the men in their lives?!

It's part of an unspoken pact in the world of rich people. The women must be thin.

So, to a large degree, yes, that is true.

Allfur · 19/02/2024 09:47

Backtolife45, so eating lovely healthy food and having an active life is 'a horrible way to live'?!

orchardgirl4 · 19/02/2024 09:48

@ChilliPB Do you cycle with you child/children? Are they independently cycling with you or connected to your bike?

Allfur · 19/02/2024 09:51

Horsey - do you not think the countless women on this thread who have similar physiques, are doing it for themselves? They enjoy the benefits being fit, slim and healthy bring?

WeRateSquirrels · 19/02/2024 09:51

Backtolife45 · 19/02/2024 09:21

Sorry, @Nots456 that sounds a horrible way to live.

Why? @Nots456 's diet sounds delicious. Why is processed, sugary crap seen as a treat?

CuttingMeOpenthenHealingMeFine · 19/02/2024 09:54

You can really start to see why so many people have health issues when eating a nice fresh healthy diet and not drinking alcohol or eating massively processed food every day is seen as joyless!

Allfur · 19/02/2024 09:57

I enjoy eating healthy foods and having an active lifestyle. I have lots of energy to enjoy life. Nothing joyless about it

Just wondering do you have a lot of free time? My car is the the garage at the moment and has been for a few days and I've barely got anything done while I was walking everywhere! I've no doubt it's been good for me, but walking is SO time consuming. If I had to add in one or two classes (where I had to walk to the gym), plus do school runs on foot etc. I might as well give up work altogether! As you may be able to tell, I don't love exercise but don't have much time for hobbies either.

Aurora791 · 19/02/2024 09:59

I personally think time is a major factor. I’m overweight because i juggle a full time job with kids and have no family local to support, and not enough money to outsource. I imagine pippa has a nanny or sufficient outsourced help that she has enough free time to go to the gym, eat well, not be in a constant stressed overworked haze etc. Whereas I’m just surviving on sugar, caffeine and an evening glass of wine muddling through to try and keep my sanity. I know what I need to do, but on a normal day I don’t stop working or doing chores til gone 9, so more often that not I just flump on the sofa!

Wow. Why do you think it’s ok to body shame her in that way?

Not shaming her, she has a great figure. It’s just an observation about her workouts.

I'm not talking about the women on this thread. I am talking about very rich women and the specific world they live in.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 19/02/2024 10:01

I don't think Pippa Middletons figure in those photos is anything to aspire to.She has zero shape.

TempleOfBloom · 19/02/2024 10:03

Having taken a slightly close interest in PM for the first time in my life what has really struck me is how many truly stupid / unaware people we have amongst our electorate.

The comments in the Daily Mail ‘PM bikini extravaganza’ articles reveal that many believe she is royal because she is married to Catherine, that she is a Princess, that she should be undertaking royal duties, is supported by the public purse, and one admirer thinks she should / could deputise for the King on occasion.

ACynicalDad · 19/02/2024 10:03

sashh · 19/02/2024 05:49

I would imagine it starts early with a nanny organising a balanced diet for you that is cooked by a chef.

Then you are in school with either a school meal or a packed lunch approved by the nanny.

Then boarding school so not much chance to get to McDonalds and lots of sport and seeing other people's bodies.

By the time you are in uni you are in the habit of eating nutritious foods and you have the money to not worry about throwing food away or living on the cheapest things which are mostly processed.

Again you are probably doing sports as well.

As an adult you will have a chef and can order what you want in terms of calories / carbs / protein etc.

As you are probably not working outside the house you can go to the gym every day, or to yoga or dance classes.

I don't know what you mean about not much chance to get McDonalds at boarding school - my boarding house was 5 cheeseburgers from the McDonalds in town. I could just about do six but that was pushing it.

Allfur · 19/02/2024 10:03

Diamondpony, could you not cycle?

I'm not missing out on much, to be honest. I still cook traditional English dishes, but I don't eat huge portions like having four Yorkshire puddings and ten roast potatoes with a Sunday dinner. My partner makes delicious salads with a variety of vegetables, and his ragu sauce takes an entire day to prepare and store. We don't eat large portions of pasta or lasagna or add bread.

I can't eat a lot anyway, and the same goes for my family, including the children. Additionally, my partner fasts, and he is currently doing an 18-6 fast for 2 months to get rid of his hibernation pouch. He does drink more than I do though and he does have a sweet tooth. Hence his winter pouch.

Yep it's definitely a factor. I go to the gym four times a week and that can be a struggle, as I am a full-time working single mum with two teenagers. I don't have time - or money - to cook us all separate meals. It was different when I was single and could run or work out every day and buy expensive organic ingredients. I'm still slim. I could look better if I had all the time and money in the world to throw at it though!

But why would you not want rugby players shoulders, and why shouldn’t she? Presumably you mean a muscular aesthetic isn’t desirable on a woman?

I enjoy life and refuse to believe we "should" aspire to remove all the joy from eating!
See, I don't get this. What's joyful about eating? You eat because you need fuel for your body. It's something you do to stay healthy and have energy to live and do whatever activities you want, stop being hungry. It's like washing yourself or learning for a test. Something you have to do to get on with life. Cooking, and deciding what to eat is tedious and a chore. Then you have to clean up. Why is that joyful?

Food tastes good! I get joy from eating because I like to taste new things and also eat my favourite foods. Hate cooking though, lol.
