To wonder what posh Mums cook for dinner…

I have just seen Pippa Middleton’s bikini photos on the DM. Three different bikinis so far, washboard abs & nothing jiggles as she chases three kids. She could easily pass as a fibreglass mannequin. I’m wondering why it is that the Middleton women and affluent women (even middle class at my child’s school), always seem to be so impossibly slim. I struggle with my weight and I would love to see the groceries, fridge contents, packed lunchboxes and dinner plans of the other half. Obviously I know what healthy eating and cooking is but, the bodies of Mothers these days is next level. Why am I struggling to keep my tummy from flopping out while women in their 40’s pull off wearing linen mini shorts (not in UK) and high waisted jeans.

I don't know what you mean. Someone asked me how many women have the life style I described including nannies to do the bending etc., Thinking about it, I suppose you have to find out how many nannies pass out of Norland and that will give you an idea.

Also, the original poster said 'affluent women' and used the word 'posh' so I presumed the post was directed at those. What do they eat that keeps them slim? Is it diet or life style - posh, or rich - affluent. I am presuming that posh affluent women who have three kids and look as though they have never given birth are that way for 1) they can afford to pay nannies who do the picking up, baby changing, washing babies clothes etc. (I am sure Norland will tell you how many girls graduate and how many stay in GB) , 2) they can afford to eat food other mums find hard to afford. 3) they can afford to pay for a gym membership, 3) they can afford to have plastic surgery to remove any sign of left over birth flab.

Take your pick.

@Idontpostmuch I don’t calorie count at all, too much effort and you end up cutting out some healthy whole foods that are actually really good for you (such as avocados or nuts) just because they’re high, but then allow low calorie options that are full of additives, emulsifiers or sweeteners which are really bad for the body. Bonkers, if you ask me! And I don’t mind a small glass of wine or a whiskey now and then.

I wouldn't cut out avocado either. Smashed avocado with a poached egg on toast is a favourite meal. Never could stand nuts, though. The trouble is that in restaurants, if I ask for nuts to be left out of a dish, they go on high alert and start telling me they can't guarantee there aren't nut traces. Good that they're aware of course.

Sorry but the number of people who have personal chefs is vanishingly small. I’d be amazed if Pippa Middleton has one, that is really the 0.01%, in the UK anyway.

The only people I’ve come across who employ them permanently have them in their stately home and even then they don’t have one in London, only for weekends and holidays when they’re entertaining.

Mary Wesley, 'Harnessing peacocks', wrote about a travelling chef - a lady who comes and stays for a few days, cooks, fill your deepfreeze with delicious portions and then travels on to other families. An exciting read. (Set in the 1980s though)

Very strict diet, very strict exercise regime, treatments and potentially surgeries, probably never gain that much weight at all that would cause any loose skin, also if you have such low body fat and mostly muscle, skin and bones nothing will jiggle.... Not easy though....

I've just looked at the photos that inspired to OP to start this thread. Obviously women should focus on having the body they want and makes them feel good in who they are, but in many cases part of that will involve wanting to feel as though they are attractive to their man, or men in general. If that's the case, I'm not sure most men's preference is the ultra-slim athlete type. In my experience, men like curves!... so if some women are starving themselves and workout out for hours daily to make themselves "sexy", they're wasting their time and effort!

Men like curves? We can't generalise, apparently prince's and billionaires are happy with no curves 🤣

Well, I'm sure she does similar to Victoria Beckham - which is exercise everyday and eat fish and vegetables. Not drink much, and not chuff down biscuits etc.

I am living proof that that's not always true.
At my lightest, I weighed less than 5 and a half stone and ate next to nothing. I used to count out ten strands of spaghetti and that would be my main meal of the day with a chopped up tomato, a bit of onion and a sprinkle of herbs. For the rest of the day I might have an apple and a glass of milk. On a push the boat out day, I'd also have a cup of low cal soup. But then I'd usually make myself sick or take laxatives. I was deep in the grip of anorexia.

But, I ran at least 4 miles a day, usually nearer 6, I worked out with fairly heavy weights given my size for at least 90 minutes a day. (I could curl 30kg for instance and bench double my body weight), I swam a mile a day and took 4 cardio classes and a circuit training class every week. I had absolutely of steel into the bargain.

I know it should be impossible but it's the truth. I was much younger then, maybe that had something to do with it. I don't know.

Sorry, I meant to quote the post that said you have to eat enough to be able to exercise!

It's almost like bodies aren't all the same.

Have you been through the menopause. There are countless stories of nutritionists and PTs who thought they knew it all finding out that all their knowledge bit the dust when they hit menopause

Most people's thyroid function weakens with age. Something like 70% of women over 79 will have an under active thyroid.

And some people are just a mystery in the same way some people can genuinely eat their body weight in food every day and not get big. There are people who struggle^^ to put on weight. They drink high calorie supplements and eat high calorie foods but struggle to maintain let alone gain.

I have never lost weight when ill. I don't know why or how. I was in hospital for 6 days with a gastric problem. I didn't eat anything for 8-9 days and had fluids by IV. I was so poorly. It was horrific. Did I lose weight? Did I fuck. Not a gram. My brother on the other hand got kidney stones and lost 10kg in 2 weeks. Doctors were very concerned.
Does it sound implausible? Yes. Was it true? Yes.

Are you unaware of anorexics who run for hours a day. They are distressingly underweight but keep running. It's very common.

I'm not really aware of other anorexics, tbh. I was young and eating disorders weren't very recognised or spoken about. I was very, very underweight. I had all of the signs and symptoms that would now be immediately recognised as anorexia but it just wasn't on people's radar, not even my doctor's.

Surgery to get rid of birth flab? Sometimes it just goes. After DS1 I went quickly back to a flat tummy. Not after DS2.

Confused

That was my point….?

Someone said, ‘she may be slim now, but wait for peri/menopause’.

And I responded to say she may be just fine - peri/meno is no guarantee of anything - everyone is different, and her mother (who is still slim) is a fairly good indicator. Indicator, i.e. no guarantees. 🤷🏻‍♀️

And for the record, I’m well into peri and battling the bulge like never before.
