If money was no object, how many kids would you have?

I have a friend who said to me the other day that there is a window for childbearing and in her opinion the goal is to have as many as we can whilst we can….money is no object for her as she is very rich.

I always end up feeling less maternal as I don’t agree with this at all. I have two kids and want to give them the best of me, having more than that, I just feel I’d be outnumbered and knackered and even if money were no object I really think I’d feel the same way.

Curious to see how other people feel?

YANBU - I’d stick with the number I’ve got if money was no object
YABU - Hell yeah, if I was loaded I’d have more, the more the better

Money would not change the number of children I had.
I know some very rich people though basically have staff to raise their children. I would not have wanted that.
I would have had three dogs though if I could have staff to take care of them and just play with them when I felt like it.

I’d have a third child if money was no object. It’s the cost of childcare that is the issue for me.

“From September 2025, eligible working parents with a child from 9 months old up to school age will be entitled to 30 hours of childcare a week.” Just saying 😊🤣

FunnysInLaJardin · 18/02/2024 22:57

2 was and is more than enough for me, even though we could have afforded more

Mothership4two · 18/02/2024 22:57

I'd stick with the two I have got. Money wasn't an issue.

Gotsomedebt · 18/02/2024 22:58

Just the one I've got now. One is enough for me.

MintTwirl · 18/02/2024 22:59

If my body could have handled it and money was no issue I would have had 2 more so 5dc.

nadine90 · 18/02/2024 23:00

I was broody when my youngest was smaller so if I’d have had lots of money I may have had one then. But now no amount of money would make a third seem like a good idea!

Sconeswithnutella · 18/02/2024 23:00

I have two. I’d have loved 4 or 5 if money wasn’t an issue.

WandaWonder · 18/02/2024 23:01

One, same as I have now, having kids is not a hobby for me

Butterdishy · 18/02/2024 23:02

I'd have had 5. We've got 3 and stretched too thin, but if I was loaded I'd outsource everything and have loads of fun with loads of kids.

Who said that having children was a "hobby"??? WTAF??

ChelseeDagger · 18/02/2024 23:04

I'd have loved a sixth, alas we didn't have the space, nor the money and I had been advised to have my tubes tied during my last section due to scar tissue.

User19798 · 18/02/2024 23:05

If I had not had HG I would have 6. Money is by the by and I am one of 9, we weren't rich and were fine. I always wanted 6. I have 2 very hard won lovely DC.

shreknjumps · 18/02/2024 23:05
  1. Because I have that many and could afford several more but chose not to
PlayOurSong · 18/02/2024 23:05

Money wasn’t the reason we stopped at two. With two, we felt we could give them the attention we wanted to and found it to be a good dynamic.

Our kids have always been fairly easy going, but I think the teen years with more than two would have meant we’d have potentially missed things. 2 children were a good decision, that’s just us though.

mightydolphin · 18/02/2024 23:06

I would have one more. I have 2 DC.

stardust40 · 18/02/2024 23:07

Have 2 with a 4 year age gap so we could afford nursery fees and me working part time when they were little. Would've had 4 if money was no issue and I could afford to give up work to be sahm, a bigger house and car and still enjoy a good quality of living!

RandomUsernameHere · 18/02/2024 23:08

Got 2, would have 3 but only if extremely extremely wealthy

boyohboys · 18/02/2024 23:09

We stopped at 2 mainly for financial reasons but I would have loved 4. DH grew up in a big family and they were really quite poor so he was adamant we shouldn't stretch ourselves too much.

Katemax82 · 18/02/2024 22:54

Why are you on "mumsnet"??

Oh, here we go with that old chestnut. It has been asked a billion times.

Most of the boards on MN are nothing to do with parenting or kids.

thunderandsunshine01 · 18/02/2024 23:12

I have 4 and I’m not rich by any means. I’d give the radfords a run for their money if I won the lotto.

kelame · 18/02/2024 23:13

I have 2 and could afford many more, but I wouldn't want more. I know a few wealthy women with larger families (5+ dcs) and they have nannies and other staff, which makes it manageable. But I like being fully hands on and wouldn't like managing staff, or handing over the reins to others. I find it hard enough as it is to balance the needs of my 2 dcs, but having another person do things with them wouldn't be the solution as I want to be the person doing it - supervising music lessons, taking to swimming lessons and toddler classes, doing the school run. DH and I take the dcs out every weekend and it's perfect as we have one each to deal with.

Catsmere · 18/02/2024 23:13

SocksAndTheCity · 18/02/2024 22:43

None, so the same as now but with a lot more money 😀

Just what I came to say! 😄

Tangled123 · 18/02/2024 23:14

Have 1. If I was loaded, and could afford more childcare and more help, I would probably have 1 more. Very unlikely to go to more than that though.

HighQueenOfTheFarRealm · 18/02/2024 23:14

I wouldn't have more than 3 no matter how rich I was.
