To ask how long it would take you to deep clean your house?

BlackBean2023 · 18/02/2024 16:55

My house is in thorough need of a deep clean.

3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, kitchen/utility and 2 bathrooms.

AIBU to think I can get it done in a day?

Well there’s deep cleaning and there’s deep cleaning g I guess. Don’t think I could go all that in one day. Good couple of hours per room.

sleepandcoffee · 18/02/2024 16:57

Absolutely, it would take a little longer if you also need to do extensive sorting and tidying but other wise aim for 45 minutes per room

Rosesanddaisies1 · 18/02/2024 16:58

Depends what you mean by deep clean. And how much stuff you have. Would take me a couple of hours as have minimal stuff

PoliteTurtle · 18/02/2024 16:58

Maybe… but why would you want to?

Prizefighter · 18/02/2024 17:00

lol mine would take a week or more.
Wool blankets needing lots of wool washing and hanging up
pictures that should come down, get the backs cleaned
window frames that need a proper clean
rugs beaten etc
cupboards emptier hoovered and back

so much to do

It's tidy- just grubby!

Floors/windows/skirting/doors etc all need some love.

So I can enjoy the rest of my child free woohoo half term without thinking about cleaning!

I paid a very lovely cleaner to do mine in 6.5 hours over two days.
Small flat and excluding 1 bedroom and the loo. She really got in behind the sofas/under the rugs, and DS’s room was a real mission.
YMMV but it would have taken me longer because it’s my place and the mental exhaustion would have kicked in!

20 years (including procrastination)

I did think about this - got a quote for £250 which I thought was quite reasonable but then figured if I did it myself I could save some of the money and book myself into a local day spa later in the week with the rest!

Oh definitely - I had limited time as I was preparing for surgery so made the decision (and fortunately was able) to throw money at it! Otherwise I’m more of a DIY type.

What about splitting it over 2 days? Or trying The Organised Mum Method boot camp? She has some handy cleaning lists etc on her website.

EmpressSoleil · 18/02/2024 17:10

A proper deep clean? Weeks! My house isn't particularly dirty or untidy but there would be a lot of stuff to move, wash etc. I aim more so for one room in a day but it can extend into 2 depending how many breaks I take!

SgtJuneAckland · 18/02/2024 17:11

Honestly I would've paid the £250 and gone to the spa while it happened

ZenNudist · 18/02/2024 17:13

Yanbu assuming not filthy.
I deep clean mine over several days (4 bed but not huge) then try and stay on top of it, especially skirting and lights and surfaces getting dusty. If I only clean skirting a few times a year they become stained and I've recently redecorated top to bottom.

Thing is as much as you try and stay on top of it, dirt builds up under and behind stuff so unless you move furniture constantly then most normal people need a deep clean from time to time. You should make a good dent in a day but if you need to sort out stuff then 3 days might be more realistic

aitchteeaitch · 18/02/2024 17:14

Just a deep clean or a declutter as well? If just a deep clean, several days. If both, I'm thinking probably around six months😂

Ilovemyshed · 18/02/2024 17:14

It would take me a full day to properly clean the kitchen if it included sorting and cleaning all the cupboards and deep cleaning the floor and oven.

Then a few hours in the bathroom and about 2 hours per other rooms.

App13 · 18/02/2024 17:23

I spend a good few hours on each room.

So I expect if I did it well , I'd need a break in between and could drag it out for a week!

therealcookiemonster · 18/02/2024 18:51

4 beds but only 1 occupant. mine takes more than a full week... with housekeeper doing 4 hours a day. but I am not including cleaning walls in that time (tbh i am yet to get internal walls cleaned except bathrooms but only been in this house for a year). we sort of stagger it so she goes through the whole house for deep clean at least once a month.

willproblem · 18/02/2024 18:57

Similar size property, & Molly Maid took 2 x 5.5 hours = 11 hours.
And they don't touch inside cupboards, or clean inside windows as I expected.

I'm intrigued.

What do you do to your own home that needs 4 hours cleaning PER DAY ?

Wexone · 18/02/2024 19:01

For my house a proper deep clean would take a full week and that's not including windows or de cluttering. a good clean takes a day. I would have paid for the cleaner if I was you. a clean house and your time back is worth every single penny in my books
I moved into this house well over a year ago and am still decluttering 🙈😫

Lastminutebride · 18/02/2024 19:18

It all depends what you’d be planning to do in the deep clean.

I reckon I could do a deep clean in a day
i wipe down skirting boards, cupboards, window sills etc weekly so a deep clean would include things like cleaning insides of cupboards, the over/fridge/washing machine filter etc, moving furniture to clean underneath, scrubbing grout in the bathroom

I deep clean quite regularly and tend to tie it in with a declutter of 1 room each deep clean so gradually work my way through decluttering the house.

LindorDoubleChoc · 18/02/2024 19:22

Yabu.

Hugmorecats · 18/02/2024 19:24

Think it depends on how heavy your furniture is and how much clutter you have. I have big bookcases which can’t be moved without taking all the books out. It took me an hour just to take all the books out, move the bookcase out, clean inside and behind the bookcase, then put it back in place with the books on.

But you can definitely do a lot and make a big difference in one day.

Invisimamma · 18/02/2024 19:25

It would take probably all day, 9-5. Typical 3 bed semi, one bathroom. I have a fortnightly cleaner so it's not particularly dirty but if I was emptying kitchen cupboards, moving furniture, doing windows, oven, fridge etc it would take most me of the day. I tend not to do it all at once though and do a couple of big tasks at a time.
