To ask how long it would take you to deep clean your house?

BlackBean2023 · 18/02/2024 16:55

My house is in thorough need of a deep clean.

3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, kitchen/utility and 2 bathrooms.

AIBU to think I can get it done in a day?

A couple of weeks. Moving furniture to other rooms would be a faff.

OooScotland · 18/02/2024 19:27

I can and do clean, but I live in a 200 year old house with loads of old nooks and crannies and I don’t know how to deep clean if I’m honest.

We’re thinking of moving this year and when the time comes I’m going to get a local cleaning company to come and do their one off ‘deep clean’ service. I’ve had it once before and it was something I could not do and was well worth the fee.

If I lived in a new build or a flat I might think I could have a go.

Atomickittyxx · 18/02/2024 19:30

About a thousand years!!! We just have too much stuff I despair 😭

DyslexicPoster · 18/02/2024 19:31

I'd say 2 hours per room, but much longer for me. I loose interest very fast

Frozenasarock · 18/02/2024 19:31

Energy and interest wise I can only do one or two rooms per day if I’m deep cleaning properly, after that I have to do something else for the rest of the day. My back isn’t up to moving multiple rooms worth of furniture in a day plus washing floors, skirting etc. I couldn’t possibly do my whole house in a day, or even two days. You might be more energetic.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 18/02/2024 19:35

Don't know, I've never tried Grin

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 18/02/2024 19:40

It depends on what you class as a ‘deep clean’ I guess. I’d include using a professional machine to clean carpets, rugs & upholstery and that alone can take the most part of a day to do plus drying time. I would also include dismantling and chemically cleaning the oven, that alone could take a few hours. Emptying out and cleaning the inside and outside of kitchen cupboards another couple of hours. Emptying and deep cleaning the fridge another hour. I recon the kitchen alone half a day if you just cracked on with it (I’m normally do a bit rest a bit in my approach!) Taking down, washing and re-hanging and steaming curtains can be quite time consuming. My house is also 3 beds, 1 bath, separate toilet, 1 living / dining room, small kitchen & small utility. I recon if I really pulled my finger out I could do it in 3 days doing one room or area at a time and my house is reasonably clean to start. Windows and windowsills are something I do as part of a standard clean.

Moreorlessmentallystable · 18/02/2024 19:42

How deep? I did a full downstairs clean this Saturday: small porch ,2 bathrooms, kitchen, utility room, 2 bedrooms, living room and dining room. It took 3 hours. All bins emptied and odorized, new bags on, vacuumed all the rooms, scrubbed the floor on the kitchen (stone floor) with hard bristle brush, mopped the kitchen, bathrooms, porch and utility room. Both bathrooms cleaned and disinfected. Cleaned a glass door in the kitchen and all mirrors, and a deep clean of the washing machine. Kitchen counters, doors and fridge/freezer, cleaned and disinfected. Dusting only lightly in the living and dining room. I was so tired I didn't get to the upstairs at all, that would have probably been another hour and a half (2 bedrooms and an office).

willproblem · 18/02/2024 19:44

Washing or wiping walls? WTF ?

I used to use washable wallpaper in the kitchen.
Then vinyl wallpaper was created - which I used.
Then, when wallpaper went out of fashion, I used vinyl paint.

I've never washed or wiped a wall in my life - apart from the occasional splash behind the cooker. They don't need it

Gymmum82 · 18/02/2024 19:46

Mine would take a full day per room. Maybe even longer. We have SO much stuff so a deep clean would be impossible without a de clutter too

BlackBean2023 · 18/02/2024 19:46

Your replies have got me thinking that I was inclined to do a good clean not a deep clean. I've never done some of the things some PP have mentioned 🫣

When I go on holiday I pay my cleaner the usual 4 hours (2 for the Saturday we leave and 2 for the Saturday we return) plus as additional 8 hours - she can do the hours in whatever chunks suit her as we are away anyway and she does a deep clean.

I currently need to do a "sort out" - want to go through cupboards etc so where I would normally clean alongside cleaner on a Saturday I am going to pay for an extra hour each week for the next 2 months and I will spend 3 hours each week fully sorting out while she covers what I would usually clean. It sounds like a lot of Time but it can take ages to fully sort through stuff.

EveSix · 18/02/2024 19:53

I can do a room in a day, then my brain melts. That includes laundering all textiles, cleaning windows, scrubbing skirting boards, any tiles and sills, cleaning furniture, picking out any stuck bits between floorboards (that the hoover doesn't suck up) with a skewer, cleaning appliances and light-fittings with a toothbrush, scrubbing floor on my knees and so bloody on.
I need to be in the right frame of mind.

DilemmaDelilah · 18/02/2024 19:55

Practically - as I am not well and get tired very quickly - about a week, perhaps longer depending on how I feel. Some rooms that we use a lot just one a day, other small or easy to clean rooms 2 or 3 a day if I'm well, another couple of rooms we don't use much in one day, again if I'm well. We have 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, living room, dining room, office, kitchen/breakfast room, hall, stairs and landing
I would be completely exhausted afterwards though!

It's not that any of the rooms are particularly cluttered or grubby, just that skirtings and paintwork don't get done that often and when I deep clean I like to do it really well.

JustJessi · 18/02/2024 19:55

Deep clean to me includes oven, inside cupboards, curtains, and proper upholstery cleaning of all soft furnishings and carpets. So, it would take days and days.

Lizzieregina · 18/02/2024 20:02

Years ago I could do a “good” clean in a long day. House would be in tip top shape for a party or something.

For a deep clean, I’d have to get into and sort closets etc and there’s a lot of people living in my house, so get back to me next year!!

Once some of these people move, I figure I could lick my house into good shape in about a month.

Me too. I think the op is right, she just means giving it a clean really,

Stormbornform · 18/02/2024 20:12

With regular snack/ coffee breaks and with no distractions absolutely.

MarmitePizza · 18/02/2024 20:15

It would take me about a week. But it would take me about 5 years to psych myself up to do it, so it’ll never happen…

Springsombrero · 18/02/2024 20:55

I don’t think I could even deep clean our kitchen in a day 😬 So much stuff 😭

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 18/02/2024 21:04

I clean everything every week so it would take me a few hours tops ( 5 beds, 3 bathrooms, utility, kitchen and some receptions.

depends how dirty jt is!

scoopdewhoop · 18/02/2024 21:24

Deep cleaning eg dusting, cleaning skirting boards, wiping out cupboards, hoovering, mopping would take a couple of days but the actual tidying, decluttering and laundry would take weeks! Give it a quick clean to make it liveable, the kids will mess it up over half-term then give it a proper clean when they go back to school.

Dymaxion · 18/02/2024 21:27

My house ? I reckon if I start now, I should be done by the end of the year. That's my aim, to make it guest ready by Christmas, currently it's an absolute tip !

TheBayLady · 18/02/2024 21:30

Depends on whether you mean a tidy and a spit and a promise or scrubbing the window reveals and skirting boards with a toothbrush. If it is the former then yes, if it is the latter the no. And if you are throwing in the oven and the extractor fan and when the were last done.

Taylormiffed · 18/02/2024 21:31

Dy I'm pretty much doing just that this year. Something every single day. Chuck out, clean and sort. The house is still untidy but I know where everything is now as I've already been through the lot. Now I have weeks to sort it.

A insta cleaning lady says it's like peeling an onion. Just work through the clutter layer by layer.
