To ask how long it would take you to deep clean your house?

BlackBean2023 · 18/02/2024 16:55

My house is in thorough need of a deep clean.

3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, kitchen/utility and 2 bathrooms.

AIBU to think I can get it done in a day?

You’re supposed to wipe your walls?!

It would probably be faster for me to burn the lot to the ground and rebuild it from scratch tbh, OP.

Berlioz23 · 18/02/2024 17:03

20 years (including procrastination)

😂

Same!

Do men have conversations about doing a "deep clean?"

Fionaville · 18/02/2024 21:39

Properly? Probably a week, if I was doing it 9 to 5. Not that it's filthy, just so much furniture/stuff to move. And deep clean for me would be getting everything out, sorting through it and putting it back in drawers and cupboards neatly. Maybe more like a month actually 😅

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/02/2024 21:40

Reception room would take me the best part of the day by the time I've included washing and rehanging curtains, taking off sofa covers, washing, drying and replacing them, washing the glass lampshades, taking books out of bookcases, giving them a good dust and replacing them. It all depends on what you mean by a "deep clean". Some of the things I've seen mentioned "cleaning behind sofas, under rugs" I think are part of a normal clean (which doesn't mean to say I do them that often).

PawsisShady · 18/02/2024 21:42

I mean I was furloughed during covid and apparently lack of time isn't the issue for my lack of deep cleaning GrinBlush

I can do a decent clean of the place in a day - bedroom, 2 bathrooms, open plan living room
There's another bedroom but I never bother much as it's a wardrobe/gym

If you're adding in emptying cupboards and decluttering then 2 days

SwordToFlamethrower · 18/02/2024 21:42

No chance. Half a day per room, at least. And that is working your arse off

Hugmorecats · 18/02/2024 21:44

The posters surprised about wiping walls must not have lived in a damp part of the UK where you get mould before 😬 Wiping walls is needed when you have black mould on them. moved my bookcase out because I spotted some. It’s not in my house generally but it sometimes happens in parts where there’s not much airflow, like behind heavy furniture. But even without mould I find walls can get dusty and need a clean. They also need cleaning with sugar soap if you want to repaint them

TerriPie · 18/02/2024 21:44

Putting my house up for sale deep clean took me a whole week. I was looking under the toilet rim with a mirror at one point though 😂.

AcridAndStanLee · 18/02/2024 21:48

Urgh. I'm thinking of doing it this week so I'll let you know. I imagine the whole week but I do get distracted. Downstairs is easy as we keep it minimal. Upstairs where all our shit is... well, I think a body might be found or something. Garage doesn't even bear thinking about.

Oblomov24 · 18/02/2024 21:49

I think a proper real deep clean would take me many days. I can only do a few hours of solid real hard cleaning before I feel knackered. So, a total of 3 days, Probably with a day in between. I could get it done in a week and a half.

Darklingthrush123 · 18/02/2024 22:11

Oh it would take weeks!

MentalLoadOverload · 18/02/2024 22:14

Some people have very high standards. I have a heavy bookcase, no way is that getting moved, I don’t care what’s under it!
My idea of a deep clean would probably take a few hours, covering the stuff that doesn’t get done regularly: hoover inside and under the sofa,
clean the windows, zap the shower with the mould spray, clean the oven, dust the hard to reach stuff and wipe off any obvious stains on the walls.

I'm intrigued.

What do you do to your own home that needs 4 hours cleaning PER DAY ?

sorry no that's for deep cleaning. Once a month, she does a full deep clean (coving, lighting, curtains etc.). that takes roughly 6 days with 4 hour sessions. the general weekly clean takes only about 4 hours as there isn't much mess. but she also helps me out with all household tasks as I have health issues so she is normally here 3-4 days a week and squeezes in deep cleaning as she can or by doing extra hours. I am very lucky to have found someone lovely and grateful for the help.

therealcookiemonster · 18/02/2024 22:20

After reading more of the replies.. I am realising I don't do a proper deep clean 🙄i am yet to clean upholstery or carpet with industrial machines....but was told by the ppl that fitted them not to use those machines as they can damage the fabric/pile?

what do you guys use machine/products wise?

SomethingDifferentt · 18/02/2024 22:30

Deep clean to me includes oven, inside cupboards, curtains, and proper upholstery cleaning of all soft furnishings and carpets. So, it would take days and days

This.

Probably a couple of weeks by the time you drag all the furniture out to clean under/behind it, do all the carpets, empty and clean cupboards.

Otherwise it's just 'cleaning' which we probably do for an hour a day. It keeps the house looking clean and tidy enough but not to the level I'd want someone looking underneath my sofas or inside various cupboards!

TheChosenTwo · 18/02/2024 22:33

Probably a week but I don’t really understand what the level of deep cleaning entails.
My bedroom could be done in two hours or so I think, not very big, bed and 2 bedside tables and a built in wardrobe/laundry bin.
The shutters take a while. Wardrobe would take the longest.
But we are a 5 bed house and the dc bedrooms have more clutter than mine.
We have a cleaner who does 4 hours once a week and she keeps everything ticking over, that will have to do as I don’t really enjoy spending my time doing things like scrubbing a skirting board.

spiderlight · 18/02/2024 22:34

I was all set to do this on Friday, but within minutes of starting, I had badly sprained/possibly fractured my big toe while dusting and it still hurts, so let that be a warning to you all!!

Itsahouseone · 18/02/2024 22:36

I think the less stuff you have, the quicker you could do it. My problem is id end up having stuff to put away and sort as I did each room so I’d be hours before I even got out the first room. The main bathroom I clean bits here and there but feel like I neglect the en-suite in our room unless I’m in one of those proper cleaning moods. I so want rid of all my clutter and to deep clean the whole place and start a fresh!

WhatsitWiggle · 18/02/2024 22:40

If it's years since you've cleaned behind the furniture, then no, it'll be a couple of hours per room. I started The Organised Mum Method a couple of years ago, and every Friday for the first eight weeks was a two-hour job whilst I scrubbed skirting boards and hoovered so much dust from hidden areas.

Now, though, absolutely, I could do the whole house in a day although I'd run out of motivation! It's why I like TOMM, no spring clean needed, just a weekly room deep clean that gets easier every 8 week cycle because it doesn't get super dirty in that time.

Emily1583 · 18/02/2024 22:41

Two bed, one bathroom + downstairs loo, kitchen and living room. About four hours. I do keep on top of the basics during the week though.

mathanxiety · 18/02/2024 22:53

Two days to do a really thorough job that would include cleaning ceiling fans, all windows, window sills, skirting boards, wiping ceiling light fixtures, cobwebs, cleaning the oven, cleaning the extractor hood, deep cleaning the bathroom, hoovering and mopping all floors (wood throughout), plus dusting and polishing all wood furniture, cleaning all lampshades, mirrors, and wiping down kitchen cabinets.

mathanxiety · 18/02/2024 23:01

@Hugmorecats
Love your name!
I wash my walls twice a year. The kitchen walls are especially prone to gathering grime, but the bathroom gets grimy too, though thankfully there's never mould as it isnt common where I live. You don't realise how much dust and general grime is on the walls until you see what's in your bucket after squeezing out your sponge.

Aug12 · 18/02/2024 23:02

Depends on what you mean by deep clean tbh, I completely gut a room out every week and it takes me a good few hours per room. I move all furniture, wash everything down including the walls, declutter, skirtings/windows and frames etc hoover and carpet clean and wash the curtains as well then I just keep on top of it in between

Ofmince · 18/02/2024 23:04

I've been saying I'm going to start a deep clean for like a month, but I've made no progress so far.

Will have to take drastic action and invite mother in law for tea soon.

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 18/02/2024 23:06

I’ve just done my sitting room and it took me much longer than I thought. I stripped the sofa and washed the covers, blankets etc the day before. Then It must have taken me about 3 hours on the day and I haven’t even cleaned the blind yet.

I completely underestimated how long it would take.
