How many steps do you do a day?

No reason, just being nosey :) I work from home at a desk 5 days a week and average around 11,000 steps a day (barely anything during work hours but then make up for it chasing the kids around on evenings and weekends). I thought this was about average since I’m overweight and not actively trying to keep my steps up. Friend is shocked and says I must be cheating somehow. So let me know- what’s your step count average and do you work to get it higher?

Anywhere between 8k to 14k usually now.

BlueLimeRun · 18/02/2024 19:36

Between 10-15k

IchGlaubMeinSchweinPfeift · 18/02/2024 19:43

Without trying, my average is somewhere between 6500-8000 a day. If I have sick kids or I'm sick, I chalk up 3500-4500 still just around the house. If I make an effort, go for an extra walk etc it's between 9-11,000

I think all step counters must be different.

On Friday I walked to my mums twice, 20 mins each way, so 1hr 20 mins walking. Then from parked car to hospital 10 mins each way (1 hr 40 walking so far), then to the shop and back 20 mins. (total 2 hours)

In 2 hours solid walking, plus housework for 2 hours in between I only clocked 8200 steps.

I had to march on the spot watching tv for another 45 minutes to get to 10,000.

I don't usually do that but I was determined to reach the golden 10K figure!

Maybe if I had a different counter I did 20K steps?!

BigHoops · 18/02/2024 20:13

I do around 14,000 to 20,000. Prob average around 17,000. I try to run a few times a week but always fit in walking, even on wfh days. I'm a bit obsessive about it but definitely feel/notice the benefit!

Treehugger22 · 18/02/2024 20:41

Not sure but dog gets walked 3/5 times a day, in the summer it's long forest walks and I have an active job so probably thousands which is good because I eat a load of ish

If this isn’t just posturing, how does anyone get to 5k on a “couch” day? Sprints in the sunroom? Garden marathon? Loo patrol?? I do drop off, walk to work/shops, then chasing DD and chores in the evening and barely get to 4K most days.

My "rest day" would generally comprise of 2x2mile round trips for school run. Maybe another 2mile round trip to the nearest supermarket. Walking round the house tidying up, putting the washing away etc. I have little legs and this easily adds up to 15k steps.

fleurneige · 18/02/2024 21:37

12-15.000 including a long dog walk, sometimes quite a bit more.

SteppingStonesOfDoom · 18/02/2024 22:08

I have found my steps increase with baggier trousers 😁 tighter jeans definitely reduces my steps compared to stretchy lose trousers

I aim for 10k a day. But some days takes an effort to reach it. If I’m at home all day and do normal chores/chasing kid around it’s around 3-4K.

Stardustmoon · 18/02/2024 22:59

15,000-20,000 a day but I'm a Reception teacher so am on my feet all day and then walk in the evenings.

DahliaMacNamara · 18/02/2024 23:15

I don't do fitbits or whatever, but at a relaxed pace on mixed gradients I do about 100 steps per minute, so it's not hard to calculate manually if I'm actually out walking. I don't really trust the smart step counting gadgets. I have a friend who gets loads of steps added on when she's sitting on her backside driving an old bouncy car, and another who constantly posts 15.000 plus steps on social media when we've been together all day and she's only moved off one spot for cider or a wee.

Tarquina · 18/02/2024 23:19

About 100.

Copperoliverbear · 18/02/2024 23:26

10k+

shielder · 18/02/2024 23:29

I went to Chessington the other day. On my feet for hours but didn’t hit 10k 🤷🏻‍♀️

shielder · 18/02/2024 23:40

You should wear your fitbit on your non dominant arm & check the settings for dominant & you can adjust the stride length manually for better accuracy.

FrogsWormsandCaterpillars · 18/02/2024 23:40

Anywhere from 16-25k.
2 school runs a day, dog walks, an active job (Retail) and gym 4 times a week!

RantyAnty · 18/02/2024 23:41

They're fairly inaccurate.

I just moved so am getting a lot more than where I used to live.

hothotheatbag · 18/02/2024 23:41

I looked on my phone and do 1-2k a day but realised I don't carry my phone!! So what des everyone use? I'd like to start tracking.

Bigminnie1 · 18/02/2024 23:45

I do between 10-13k a day. Working from home I usually do two dog walks, a short workout and get up every hour and move around for a few mins. Sometimes, I also walk round the corner to the shops at lunchtime.
