That after 24 hours travelling you’d want a shower

24 hours, 3 planes….2 short hops and an international overnight flight. You’d want a shower when you got home, yes?

DH is a very clean person who oddly, rarely sweats. In the usual run of things He showers daily and after exercise.

we’ve just got back a couple of hours ago and first thing I did was shower. He’s got into bed and says he doesn’t need one. he’ll shower tomorrow. Freshly made bed too…

we aren’t especially knackered…but really wouldn’t you just want a shower?

Yes

Precipice · 17/02/2024 22:20

No, I think I'd just want to rest.

Mumsnut · 17/02/2024 22:20

Yes.

Bettyscakes · 17/02/2024 22:20

No id want sleep first

TheChosenTwo · 17/02/2024 22:21

Usually yes but we got home at 3am from our last holiday due to delays, should have been home and 5pm the day before and worse, the 3am bedtime was followed by a 6am alarm for going back to work and school! No way was i wasting valuable sleep time on showering.
I mean it sounds like your dh isn’t usually a filthy pig so I’d just assume he was knackered. No one will die with some plane germs on their sheets!

NotQuiteNorma · 17/02/2024 22:21

Depends how knackered you are I suppose?

DragonFly98 · 17/02/2024 22:21

No definitely not I would just want to go to bed.

Testina · 17/02/2024 22:22

I wouldn’t. I don’t sweat much, and I’m lazy. If my husband told me I was smelly (which he would 🤣) then I’d shower - but, in that scenario - very likely not.

Thelightis · 17/02/2024 22:22

Clearly he's exhausted

FabFebHalfTerm · 17/02/2024 22:22

Depends. But I'd have one whether I wanted one or not, before getting into a freshly made bed.

Lampslights · 17/02/2024 22:23

If I was tired no, I’d get in to bed, but I’d be appalled if my husband then started a thread about me asking a bunch of blokes basically if I had poor hygiene.

but you do you.

DorothyZ · 17/02/2024 22:23

I don't really have an answer as surely it would depend on how I felt at the time.

Why are you so bothered that he didn't?

s4usagefingers · 17/02/2024 22:24

Yes, shower will always make you feel better and sleep better too. Takes less than a minute.

OnTheBanks · 17/02/2024 22:25

No, straight to sleep, shower in the morning

Faircastle · 17/02/2024 22:25

DH, (adult) DS1 and I were discussing this the other day, and our priorities when returning home from journey / travel are different.

Me: shower first, then sleep, then eat.
DH: eat first, then shower, then sleep.
DS1: sleep first, then shower, then eat.

RiceRiceMaybe · 17/02/2024 22:25

I’d shower, and I wouldn’t want to get in bed with someone grubby from travel, especially in a clean bed. There would be all sorts clinging to skin and hair.

It wouldn't me. It would probably wake me up and make it impossible to sleep no matter how knackered I was

BarrelOfOtters · 17/02/2024 22:28

It’s not poor hygiene. He’s a very clean bloke, I’m the manky menopausal mare who really needed a shower.

if we’d got home absolute knackered then I’d have collapsed into bed, showered in the morning then changed the sheets. This isn’t a division of labour thing, he’s emptied the suitcases, sorted washing etc.

but we aren’t that knackered. Just a shower and freshen up seems nice after travelling and 8 can’t imagine not doing it (unless knackered).

So what’s the thread about then>?

Neverpostagain · 17/02/2024 22:29

Unless they had been clearing asbestos, I wouldn't give someone else's shower habits a second thought. Eat, sleep, shower.

Loulo6098 · 17/02/2024 22:29

We recently had a very long plane journey home. Nobody slept. We all got home, stripped all clothes off, and promptly fell asleep at midday. All of that occured despite our plan of staying awake until at least 6pm. We were just too tired😅

My DH is also one who rarely smells, lucky bugger. He enjoys taunting me too. We'd have a full day out in the hot sun, and when we return to our hotel, he'll invite me to smell his armpits....

BarrelOfOtters · 17/02/2024 22:30

And I’m not that bothered just a bit jet lagged and vaguely interested in peoples’ thoughts on wanting a shower after travelling or not…

OP posts:
Hercisback · 17/02/2024 22:31

Not really unless I had to go out.

Whenwillitgetwarm · 17/02/2024 22:34

I would 100% shower after being on 3 planes . It’s not about me sweating, it’s the hours of circulating air, dead skin cells and dust, as well the hundreds of other people I’ve been trapped with for hours who’ve been coughing, have greasy plane food hands and farting etc.

Planes just make me feel skanky, as does any form of public transport to be honest. I always make DH and the kids have a quick, and I mean quick, soap up and rinse off, before bed, after we’ve got home from the airport.
