That after 24 hours travelling you’d want a shower

24 hours, 3 planes….2 short hops and an international overnight flight. You’d want a shower when you got home, yes?

DH is a very clean person who oddly, rarely sweats. In the usual run of things He showers daily and after exercise.

we’ve just got back a couple of hours ago and first thing I did was shower. He’s got into bed and says he doesn’t need one. he’ll shower tomorrow. Freshly made bed too…

we aren’t especially knackered…but really wouldn’t you just want a shower?

A shower definitely wouldn’t help me relax or sleep in that situation, quite the opposite. So I understand why he went straight to bed if he was exhausted and wouldn’t judge him for it. I’d have probably had a shower at a lounge somewhere along the way though on a journey that long.

BarrelOfOtters · 18/02/2024 09:03

I say ‘we’ aren’t exhausted because we’d been talking about the fact that we weren’t feeling as tired as we thought we would after 24 hours. And he’d, unpacked, had a bite to eat…pottered around catching up on football.

There are times we’d come back and just collapse. But I’d still want a wash…he obviously doesn’t.

Yanbu. 5 min shower and brush teeth would help me sleep. I always used to shower after a night out.

burnoutbabe · 18/02/2024 09:08

Whilst saying I didn't shower after my long. Haul flight, I did crave clean Teeth when I got in!

Since getting a brace having clean teeth is vital and having slightly grubby teeth from eating or drinking anything feels horrible. Especially with the braces back on top (invisiline) and you can't clean then thoughly in an airport toilet.

So that was number 1 priority!

Bed sheet wise I think I left the bedding unwashed before I went as I knew we'd just get into bed asap so best to swap to clean next day.

Hoglet70 · 18/02/2024 09:10

I'd probably want a bath after all that to relax. DH would just sleep and for the record, he is really clean.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/02/2024 09:10

Unless I was very sweaty, I'd go straight to bed and shower in the morning. I can't function without a morning shower.

Punxsatawnyphil · 18/02/2024 09:12

A shower would wake me up, I normally have mine first thing in the morning, I'd want to sleep first.

shoppingshamed · 18/02/2024 09:15

How is this not situation dependant, do people really have hard and fast rules on showering?

If I felt like a shower I'd have one, if not I wouldn't, isn't that the normal way to approach everyday decisions?

It sometimes doesn’t seem possible on MN to just put out an idle thought, without people going into full-on judgement mode! This seems to be one of those threads.

Depends on how tired I was. When I travelled back from the far east last year I was too tired to do anything other than go straight to bed.

W0tnow · 18/02/2024 09:38

The last thing we do before leaving for holiday is leaving the house spotless, with clean sheets. I prefer showering before a long haul journey and coming home to a clean and tidy environment and having a shower and going to bed in clean sheets.

Another shower when I wake.

ohskedaddle · 18/02/2024 09:40

Depends - if I'd just been mainly sat on a plane with no rushing about, and was really tired, I'd probably go straight to bed.

If I'd been travelling through hot countries with no air con and felt grubby I would shower.

PoppingTomorrow · 18/02/2024 09:41

s4usagefingers · 17/02/2024 22:24

Yes, shower will always make you feel better and sleep better too. Takes less than a minute.

Edited

Or it will wake you up and you'll find it difficult to get to sleep when what you really need is rest

Bizarre level of micromanagement by OP

Clearinguptheclutter · 18/02/2024 09:41

Well a shower might wake me up so I can see how a sleep first would be appealing

unless I was very sweaty/ mucky, I’d go to bed first

BarrelOfOtters · 18/02/2024 09:50

'Bizarre level of micromanagement by OP'...what is? Musing on why my husband happy to go to bed un showered where as I felt better having a shower first. Yep, musing, that's micromanagent defined!

She did.

DyslexicPoster · 18/02/2024 09:58

It depends. I normally would. However after one flight home from America I had a bath as I wanted one badly. But then I felt like death with jetlag after a few minutes and could bearly get out. In hindsight I should fallen straight into bed. Hot shower, bath sometimes isn't what your body needs.

Spirallingdownwards · 18/02/2024 10:09

W0tnow · 18/02/2024 09:53

She did.

Rightly so. So therefore no need to ask MN if she was right and he was wrong then.

I think you need to work on your reading comprehension skills.

I wouldn't feel I needed one. I rarely shower before bed anyway

Appleofmyeye2023 · 18/02/2024 10:26

Used to travel loads for work, similar journeys to this all the time. I was menopausal and sweaty at times, but then I’d be this without travelling!
travelling in itself didn’t make me more dirty unless I’d had to use some really manky airplane loos etc

so I’d generally stick to my normal routine, once back…if i arrived back at 10am cos it was overnighted into uk I’d have showered as I would each morning , but if later in day nope. Changed my clothes. Good wash of hands and face but I’d then continue as normal. Late at night ? Not usually, showers wake me up and I don’t usually shower at night, so again just wash and change into pjs

airplanes generally, and airports, aren’t any more unhygienic than a day in the office . On board the air is actually drying and I need to lather myself with moisturiser!

zingally · 18/02/2024 10:30

Depends how tired I was really.
I'm usually desperate to fall into bed after a long flight - especially an overnight one.

Aroundthewaygirl · 18/02/2024 10:47

I always shower before going to bed, no matter how tired I am or how late it is. I will take a quick shower. I have to feel fresh before getting into bed or I won’t be able to sleep
