That after 24 hours travelling you’d want a shower

24 hours, 3 planes….2 short hops and an international overnight flight. You’d want a shower when you got home, yes?

DH is a very clean person who oddly, rarely sweats. In the usual run of things He showers daily and after exercise.

we’ve just got back a couple of hours ago and first thing I did was shower. He’s got into bed and says he doesn’t need one. he’ll shower tomorrow. Freshly made bed too…

we aren’t especially knackered…but really wouldn’t you just want a shower?

No matter how tired I would have a quick 5min shower after all that travel.

DiscoBeat · 17/02/2024 22:35

I definitely shower after a flight before I get into bed but then I shower every time I've been on a train as well.

HellersK · 17/02/2024 22:35

It would totally depend. If I had a reasonable journey and had the energy I'd shower. If I was shattered I'd sleep and just wash myself - and the fecking sheets if needs be - the next day. . Also he might feel a shower would wake him up and he may want to wind down to sleep and reset his body clock. Travelling is hard, I'd be inclined to give him a break

MorrisZapp · 17/02/2024 22:37

Shower after a day of travel is the best shower of all.

NewName24 · 17/02/2024 22:40

If I was tired no, I’d get in to bed, but I’d be appalled if my husband then started a thread about me asking a bunch of blokes basically if I had poor hygiene.

And I’m not that bothered just a bit jet lagged and vaguely interested in peoples’ thoughts on wanting a shower after travelling or not…

We flew back from Japan via Hong Kong.

Started 9am landed uk 8pm (so 19 hours or so flying) taxi 9, home 10.

We just went to bed and slept after quick check of post. Nice shower the next morning.

Neither of us were particularly fresh but neither of us were honking either.

No, I think I'd just want to rest.

Me too. I'd rather rest then do it in the morning to be refreshed

zzpleb · 17/02/2024 22:47

If he wasn't sweaty then what's the problem? I don't understand what dirt one is exposed to while travelling that is different to everyday dirt. And it would only accumulate on parts of the body not covered by clothes - face, hands, hair. He's not wearing his day clothes in bed is he?

Presumably he's washed his hands and face. And for those adamant that they'd shower before bed, does that include hair washing?

DH is a very clean person who oddly, rarely sweats. Are you married to Prince Andrew?

I would 100% shower after being on 3 planes . It’s not about me sweating, it’s the hours of circulating air, dead skin cells and dust, as well the hundreds of other people I’ve been trapped with for hours who’ve been coughing, have greasy plane food hands and farting etc.

Planes just make me feel skanky, as does any form of public transport to be honest. I always make DH and the kids have a quick, and I mean quick, soap up and rinse off, before bed, after we’ve got home from the airport.

Well, I guess I just don't find human interaction very worrying. Don't feel a need to shower after travelling, whether trains or planes, and have never suffered any ill effects.

OnTheBanks · 17/02/2024 22:58

If I felt hot and sticky, and wasn't exhausted, I'd shower. But I wouldn't feel any huge necessity to do so, would just depend on how I felt.

whatsappdoc · 17/02/2024 23:00

Interesting that someone coughing or farting means you have to have a shower when you get home. Do you imagine a germ or a smell is clinging to your skin hours afterwards? Glad I'm normal.

helpfulperson · 17/02/2024 23:01

God, no. I'd be straight into bed. Shower can wait. What do think will happen as a result of him not showering? Is this the same as washing getting darked on with spider willies?

SquigglePigs · 17/02/2024 23:05

I think it would depend a bit how much I'd slept while travelling and how hot and sweaty certain bits had been but I think honestly both me and DH would crash into bed and worry about showering when we woke up.

SD1978 · 17/02/2024 23:13

I'd probably juts want to sleep- although I also accept others would find that gross. A 'bits and pits' wash and then sleep would in all honesty be my first choice.

Helplessandheartbroke · 17/02/2024 23:14

Travelled 27 hours back from Vietnam from leaving hotel to our door. 3 planes 2 long haul and 1 short. First thing we did was shower! It was vile

Whaleandsnail6 · 17/02/2024 23:21

I got back from an overnight drive and ferry ride yesterday morning. 14 hours trip in total (included a 2 hour car nap in the carpark of a service station) first thing I did was change into pyjamas and get into bed. Shower had to wait until the afternoon until I'd had a few hours sleep

Sockmate123 · 17/02/2024 23:25

I'd have to have a quick shower especially with fresh sheets

saraclara · 17/02/2024 23:25

No way I'd ever have a shower before bedtime. Showers invigorate me so I wouldn't be able to sleep.

After 24 hours of travelling, sleep would be my priority, and the last thing is do is anything that would wake me right up.

SheepAndSword · 17/02/2024 23:27

He's tired, let him sleep tonight and he'll shower tomorrow.

Xmasbaby11 · 17/02/2024 23:29

I mean I would unless I was going straight to bed. If I was tired, I’d go to bed and shower in the morning. If he’s generally a clean person, this wouldn’t bother me! As long as you’re able to shower yourself !

Moveoverdarlin · 17/02/2024 23:31

Nope, would rather just hop in to bed and shower in the morning.

Thementalloadisreal · 17/02/2024 23:31

Yes. Wash the day off. Get into clean bed clean.

TurnTheKey · 17/02/2024 23:33

We usually get a McDonald's on the way home, then once home, straight to bed.
The luggage stays in the car until we've woken up later and had a coffee and a shower.
