That after 24 hours travelling you’d want a shower

24 hours, 3 planes….2 short hops and an international overnight flight. You’d want a shower when you got home, yes?

DH is a very clean person who oddly, rarely sweats. In the usual run of things He showers daily and after exercise.

we’ve just got back a couple of hours ago and first thing I did was shower. He’s got into bed and says he doesn’t need one. he’ll shower tomorrow. Freshly made bed too…

we aren’t especially knackered…but really wouldn’t you just want a shower?

It’s not poor hygiene. He’s a very clean bloke, I’m the manky menopausal mare who really needed a shower.

if we’d got home absolute knackered then I’d have collapsed into bed, showered in the morning then changed the sheets. This isn’t a division of labour thing, he’s emptied the suitcases, sorted washing etc.

but we aren’t that knackered. Just a shower and freshen up seems nice after travelling and 8 can’t imagine not doing it (unless knackered).

Edited

Why would you change your sheets because you had slept in them once unshowered? I mean they were clean when you got into them, they surely won't need washing after one night's sleep, unless you were literally covered in mud or something (I'm assuming you are not).

DappledThings · 17/02/2024 23:41

Nah. Hate going to bed with wet hair and I don't own a hairdryer. If I do ever shower in the evening it has to be at least 3 hours before bed so hair can dry.

Travelling doesn't make me feel particularly dirty.

CJ4713 · 17/02/2024 23:47

DH and I had been travelling 30hrs long haul just last week. We were both desperate for a shower, but also for sleep! 1 of us fell asleep on the sofa, the other managed a very quick shower and crawled into bed. When you body is that knackered- I wouldn't judge anyone for not being physically able to shower OP!
Edit for jetlagged typos!

No definitely not I would just want to go to bed.

This, because if sleep was possible at that point any jet lag/body clock issues could be resolved by sleep and a shower would interrupt that

mitogoshi · 18/02/2024 00:02

I generally shower in the morning so I'm with him

missshilling · 18/02/2024 00:09

Done this several times. Straight to bed. Shower or bath in the morning.

Sleepysleepasap · 18/02/2024 00:15

When absolutely jet lagged bed is my priority!

FrenchieF · 18/02/2024 00:15

I’d want to shower too

Cherryflowers · 18/02/2024 00:16

I would not think twice about immediately collapsing into my bed. Also you say 'we' were not particularly tired.... Clearly he was....

idontlikealdi · 18/02/2024 00:17

Bed. Couldn't get worked up about it.

tolerable · 18/02/2024 00:23

HE is NOT you...it all makes sense after that.

Imnotarestaurant · 18/02/2024 00:27

If I was travelling to or a from a hot country I’d probably shower before bed, depending on the time we arrived home. Otherwise, meh, I feel better after a shower but sometimes you’re too tired

FlyingSoap · 18/02/2024 00:28

If I knew the return flight was long haul I wouldn’t have put fresh bedding on, and would’ve left it clean in a drawer ready to be put on the day after you get home - as to pre empt getting into bed tired and sweaty from travelling so long.

Planes are germsy so I would always want to shower first but if I couldn’t then would be changing the bedding that next day

GrumpyPanda · 18/02/2024 00:29

You are both unreasonable. I'm usually so stiff and achy I need a bath not a shower.

That said, hope you have separate beds. Your DH must stink to high heavens.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/02/2024 00:31

No. Bed. Long bath in the morning.

Meadowfinch · 18/02/2024 00:35

I'd want a shower, but he's a grown-up. I'm sure he can decide for himself.

Strokethefurrywall · 18/02/2024 00:44

Nope, I always sleep straight after long flights. Shower in the morning to freshen up and feel alive.

Lavenderandbrown · 18/02/2024 00:55

I think airline travel is the filthiest. It’s easier to take a shower than wash my face and hands separately. I would not wash my hair. Clothes off shower and brush teeth and bed. That’s like 6 minutes and guaranteed a better sleep. I too also love to come home to clean sheets. My dh may do differently sometimes but I always shower.

I would 100% shower after being on 3 planes . It’s not about me sweating, it’s the hours of circulating air, dead skin cells and dust, as well the hundreds of other people I’ve been trapped with for hours who’ve been coughing, have greasy plane food hands and farting etc.

Planes just make me feel skanky, as does any form of public transport to be honest. I always make DH and the kids have a quick, and I mean quick, soap up and rinse off, before bed, after we’ve got home from the airport.

I don't think I've ever been given greasy food on a flight. I don't think they have fryers on board and reheated fried food would just be soggy, so not considered suitable by the executive chefs who are paid a lot of money to devise menus.

I could be corrected, I suppose.

DH is a very clean person who oddly, rarely sweats. Are you married to Prince Andrew?

😂no, but good one. Never eaten in a pizza expres in Woking either.

I’d got home showered and changed the bed as hadn’t changed them before we went and I’m a sweaty menopausal woman.

I don’t think planes are ‘germy’ or have a particular issue with public transport. Though there are times I’ve arrived back from travelling away and it would have been from hot counties, a crowded ferry or chicken carrying bus, to long haul plane,to short haul and have crawled into shower when I have absolutely needed a shower.

This wasn’t one of those times.

As I said, it’s just an idle thought, I know people are different….

We have a DIL who who showers in morning but has to shower again at night, as do all her family, as she can’t imagine going to bed without a shower, no matter how late she’s been off ut.

I understand making your kids shower (personally, I'd let them decide if they were too tired), but don't you allow your husband a choice?

LunaTheCat · 18/02/2024 08:10

Fly very long haul yearly… always a shower and then bed. I hate the grubby airplane feeling !

DriedFlowersLiveForever · 18/02/2024 08:11

You keep saying 'WE' are not tired/exhausted. Clearly 'YOU' were not tired.
I couldn't get worked up about a normally clean person getting straight into bed after 24 hours travelling just because I felt better for having a shower.
I'm sure the clean sheets will survive their horrific encounter!

Anjea · 18/02/2024 08:15

Nope. Bed for me.
