Just wondering what your true JUDGY thoughts are? I don't wear makeup often I'm in mid forties. How am I perceived? Lazy? Frumpy? Not caring? Boring? Can't be bothered to make an effort for others ? Or confident ? Perceived as being ' pretty enough' ?

I don't wear much make up because grew up in hot climate where the normal was not to wear much of it. Maybe in a night out, special ocasion but not to go to work everyday thing. Onmy lipgloss etc.
When I moved to the UK 20 years ago I was surprised on the perception that to look presentable you needed make up, skirts, heels, etc.
I admire women that know how to apply make to enhance their features and I think many young girls really know how-to use it.
I don't have the skill or much inclination but many times felt my friends and even work colleagues implied that should wear some to look more feminine. Not in a negative way more like you have such lovely eyes you should wear some eyeliner this shade to enhance the colour, etc.
My point is I do think when women see others without make up they feel that they aren't polished or have a complete look.
And the attitude is more she is brave not to wear it but she would look sooo much better with it.😁
Unless of course you have naturally flawless skin and rosy cheeks so they will just envy you

Definitely no judgement from me. I'm 34 and only wear mascara for work or if I'm generally just going out and about as I just can't be bothered doing it daily! I do full makeup if I'm going out for food etc.

@Chocolateeggsarebetterthannormalchocolate off-topic, but love the user name! It's true! 😄

Airspice · 18/02/2024 13:21

By ‘no make up’ do you mean, foundation but no mascara, liner, lipstick etc, or absolutely nothing? I’m 52 and often don’t wear make up day to day but I do always wear foundation just to make me not look so washed out and sleep deprived!

100%! I can't believe that some people don't agree! I've had about 5 already this year so far 🙊

I always think foundation alone makes you look weird because it blanks out all the normal colours from your face which isn't natural- which is why I always think you need to add colour back where you want it then with a little blusher and bronzer and especially mascara if your lashes are fair.

fussychica · 18/02/2024 14:01

I've always worn eye make up and tinted moisturiser or foundation etc if I'm going out. I'm 67 and have had an eye problem recently and was advised not to wear eye make up anymore. I'm gutted as I definitely look better with make up but I have no intention of wearing it and risk a repeat of the problem. So it's just lippy every day and a bit of face make up occasionally from now on.
I've never judged anyone for wearing or not wearing make up.

Who has 'advised' you to not wear make up @fussychica ??? Confused

I am not masses younger than you (less than a decade,) and like fuck would I be stopping wearing make up because someone 'advised' me to!

I am friends with a couple of women who are 80 to 90, and THEY wear make up. Bit of eyeshadow and eyeliner, and lippy, and tinted moisturiser, and a bit of blusher.

They'd laugh at someone telling them to not wear make up, OR tell them to fuck off depending on their mood that day.

soupfiend · 18/02/2024 14:19

Why have you written 'advised' like that?

The poster sounds as if they have a medical problem which might be exacerbated by eye make up, so someone dealing with the problem for them has told them to lay off it.

You would tell your doctor to fuck off in those circumstances?

How bizarre

It tells you how men in general feel about makeup.

Oh, we know what they say. And we know they're talking shite. They don't know what most makeup looks like. They don't know the difference between no makeup and natural makeup. And if we all did actually stop wearing makeup, they'd run screaming. And nobody's decision about whether or not to wear it should be dictated by what men think anyway.

I'd love to see that :)

fussychica · 18/02/2024 17:48

SweetBirdsong Well as much as I like wearing eye make up I won't be telling my doctor or the ophthalmologist to fuck off any time soon!
No idea why you would react to my post in that way. Just weird.

AlwaysGinPlease · 18/02/2024 18:00

@SweetBirdsong

What a rude, aggressive and unnecessary post. I think you should apologize.

Uricon2 · 18/02/2024 18:30

I love slap. I love the creative aspects and how much fun it is and I've worn it for the best part of 50 years, because I like it. Less so recently (circumstances) but I still try to use an eyebrow mascara every day because as my previously nice dark eyebrows are now grey, I look like a naked mole rat without it (Google them, they're cute, but not aspirational models for humans IMO)

I make no judgement about whether someone wears make up or not. Personal choice, it neither enhances or takes away from your value.

LoseLooseLucy · 18/02/2024 18:48

Agree with the others, how on earth have you misread @fussychica’s post completely wrong?

SweetBirdsong · 18/02/2024 19:48

@fussychica I am SO sorry. I read your post quickly, and did a 'skip-read' and missed the bit where you said 'eye problem.' I really am terribly sorry. Please forgive me! Flowers I thought it was someone telling you not to wear make up because of your age.

Reading back, my post sounded very rude, as you had said 'eye problem' (and clearly medics told you not to wear make up!)

I didn't read your post properly. You must think me such a rude twit. As you were. Again, VERY sorry! Blush

I'm so glad I came back to this thread before it was full! I'd have been mortified if I couldn't apologise.

#notetoself Read posts thoroughly in future before responding!!!

wobblyweasel · 18/02/2024 19:55

I don't really notice whether someone is wearing make-up, unless of course it's plastered on their faces! There are a few women where I live who tend to put it on with a trowel, sadly it seems like it's the younger generation who do this. Some would be absolutely stunning if they just used minimal make-up, or none at all. I don't bother generally, unless I'm going out somewhere nice.

NonPlayerCharacter · 18/02/2024 19:57

Some heavy makeup looks aren't supposed to look natural or make the wearer look more beautiful. Sometimes they're just about art with the face as the canvas. Body art, like tattoos.

Moveoverdarlin · 18/02/2024 19:58

I wear make-up everyday. Makes me look and feel a thousand times better. I don’t think I necessarily judge anyone for not wearing make-up. But I often think ‘you’d look so much more put together with make-up on’. Most women look better with makeup on in my honest opinion.

NonPlayerCharacter · 18/02/2024 20:04

When my makeup is done well, I look like me, just set off to my best. My makeup artist for my wedding had a chat with me before the makeup trial to get a sense of what I liked and usually wore. She loved makeup, as a makeup artist should do, so she wore quite a lot, but she soon gathered that I wore a lot less and she said that I shouldn't go for something completely unlike myself just because it was my wedding; it should still be me. We went for a light look based on pink; it was summer and we had roses as our main flower so that fitted. I looked and felt like me, in colours and styles that suited me and which I liked.

For her own wedding she wore a much heavier look because she loves makeup and that's her. She showed me pics and honestly she looked great. She was obviously comfortable, confident and happy and it was really well applied.

I didn’t see the caked on look when I lived in the States nor do I see it here. Most of those things I only see on SM which many should know by now is not a complete reflection of any country.

I lived in Los Angeles. The Kardashian look is pretty standard.

LA doesn’t represent the whole country though. I didn’t see the look living in the Midwest, traveling in the South, or in NYC and Washington DC.

QueenBean22 · 18/02/2024 20:26

I can’t say i really notice or think much of my friends who don’t wear makeup. It’s only when they’ve told me I’ve actually realised.

I only really notice if it’s different from their norm.

no opinion really.

I can't help but think of THIS when reading this thread. Smile Especially on reading the hilarious 'wimmin shud not wear make up, coz it makes U fake!' comments from the poster @wpshark on page 34. (Like women need a man's approval!) 😆

Yup.

There is, again, absolutely nothing wrong with not wearing makeup. But it really is irritating to hear people who don't know how to apply it insisting that nobody else does.

Lol of course not. The midwest is not know for being glam! Take an inventory of major US cities and you’ll understand my point. sorry you are offended by my Generalization of a country ive lived in 2x for a total of 15 years including much biz travel and a lot of travel around the world. Compared to most places ive been to and how I see American tourists around the world they cake it on more than most.
