This ad keeps being shown to me.

Why is she wearing glasses in the pool? I'm a glasses wearer and have never done this or seen it.

It's really bothering me! Why didn't they ask the model to take them off if she was actually a glasses wearer?

Huh? I cant see without my glasses so would have to wear them

RawBloomers · 13/02/2024 22:18

I've seen a few people in the pool with glasses. Prescription swimming goggles must be v. expensive. Some people wouldn't be able to take their kids in the pool if they couldn't wear glasses. Why does it bother you so much? Is it a safety issue?

fourelementary · 13/02/2024 22:18

I wouldn’t wear my glasses if I was swimming lengths but if I’m in with my kids I NEED my glasses to be able to see them… so Yabu.

TwattingDog · 13/02/2024 22:19

Plenty of people can't see beyond the end of their nose and require glasses to see anything at all.

You must either be able to function without your glasses on or have bought goggles. Good for you....

SoulMole · 13/02/2024 22:22

My husband has extremely poor vision and a degenerative condition. He can't cope without his glasses in the pool. What a bizarre post?!

YankSplaining · 13/02/2024 22:22

I always wear glasses in pools. I have atrocious eyesight, and I’m not in pools enough for it to be financially worth it to buy prescription goggles.

nothingcomestonothing · 13/02/2024 22:23

I saw someone wearing glasses in the pool yesterday!

TheSandHurtsMyFeelings · 13/02/2024 22:23

If I was asked to take my glasses off for a photo I wouldn't be able to see the camera.

I can't wear lenses. I can't afford prescription goggles (I'm not sure I could even get those with my prescription.) Therefore, I wear glasses in the pool. I even wear them in the sea. Because otherwise I can see absolutely fuck all.

Needmorelego · 13/02/2024 22:23

If I didn't wear my glasses in the pool - I would barely be able to see the pool 😂

issabel · 13/02/2024 22:24

DH wears his glasses in the pool as he can't see otherwise.

I on the other hand won't even wear my glasses in the rain because I find the raindrops more distracting than the poor vision I have without them. I need little windscreen wipers.

Oneblindmouse · 13/02/2024 22:24

I wear old glasses when swimming as I am severely sight impaired and cannot see anything without them. I have prescription goggles but they steam up all the time meaning I can't see anything unless I keep taking them off to rinse/wipe them.
However I am interested, OP, as to why you feel she should have taken her glasses off? Do you believe glasses make people unattractive?

Time40 · 13/02/2024 22:27

@Oneblindmouse Have you tried rubbing some Fairy liquid on them? I do that with my ordinary goggles, and it keeps them totally steam-free.

Kemblefordsnice · 13/02/2024 22:27

I always wore glasses in the pool when I took my children swimming. I can't see anything at all without them.
I looked at getting prescription goggles but they were prohibitively expensive for one hour a week.

RootVegAndMash · 13/02/2024 22:28

I'm a glasses wearer and have never done this or seen it

Your prescription must be pretty low then. Have you not considered that people with higher prescriptions might need to wear glasses at all times?

I wear glasses in the pool often. Can't see what the issue is.

dimllaishebiaith · 13/02/2024 22:28

She's obviously fairly short sighted, which means if she had been made to take her glasses off she probably wouldn't have been able to see very well, would probably have felt quite vulnerable and certainly might not have felt as confident when having her photo taken

Insisting on that sounds quite ableist

Nowvoyager99 · 13/02/2024 22:30

Why wouldn’t she wear her glasses in the pool? I don’t understand.

I have to wear mine. I wouldn’t recognise my own children without them!!

InsidiousRasperry · 13/02/2024 22:31

This is like my friend who gets annoyed when she sees a bride wearing glasses 🥲

mrsjareth · 13/02/2024 23:01

This is a strange post. Why wouldn't you wear glasses in the pool?! Most people who wear them can't see a thing without them. It would be stupid not to wear them!

mrsjareth · 13/02/2024 23:03

Why on earth would it bother you?

ElfAndSafetyBored · 13/02/2024 23:12

I agree with you OP. I would never take my ludicrously expensive varifocal glasses into a chlorine filled pool.

Prescription goggles are really cheap, c£25 anyway, you just buy the pair nearest to your proper prescription. Look at the Speedo website. I’m blind as a bat and they are fine for pool use. Stop me walking into the mens changing room anyway.

I honestly do not think I have ever seen anyone ever swim in glasses. Like properly swim. Front crawl or something. Although to be fair, as I said, I am very short sighted.

The women in the photo is holding a baby though so even if she was a normal swimmer in the pool (as opposed to a posed photo) she's hardly likely to be doing a front crawl

Much more likely is that she will be standing around in the shallow end supporting and playing with the baby in the water. All of which is perfectly possible when wearing glasses

Kemblefordsnice · 13/02/2024 23:26

If only my potential swimming goggles were £25, more like £400+

Even my ordinary glasses are close to £800 and that's with cheap own brand frames.

And, loads of people at my pool wear glasses.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 13/02/2024 23:31

I have an old pair I wear in the pool. I'd be as blind as a bat without them.

Gotsomedebt · 13/02/2024 23:39

Another one who wears glasses in the pool. Can't see anything without them. End up bumping into people, can't see where my child is, etc.

I do need some prescription goggles!

25inarow · 13/02/2024 23:57

I wear mine in the pool and swim lengths with a headband to keep them on. I can't see anything without them. When I checked ages ago, Goggles didn't come in a high prescription like mine
