She stole my croissant.

Lighthearted but quietly seething.

Had my lunch break and colleague joined me as she “wanted to get some fresh air”, I said I’m going to this cafe as I’m craving a croissant and she said she’d come with me.

Very busy inside cafe with one table left (no one behind us in the queue) and so I said I’ll go sit at the table and you order your food. When she sat down I got up and ordered mine and was told “the last croissant has just gone”

As I sat back down I told her “so annoying the last croissant has just gone” and she said - yes I know I ordered it.

😠😠😠 (the word croissant has lost all meaning)

Please tell me you said something? Like - riiiight, so we came because I was desperately craving a croissant and you've just taken the last one?!' CF.

You have received some very important information.

You have to try the pistachio version, then! It's amaaazing! 😋😋😋

I’ll need to try some 😋

The bit I don't understand, though, is that anyone can seriously prefer a croissant to a pain chocolat.

Croissants all the way here. I can take or leave a pain au chocolat.

This is the one I buy at Costco. I've also seen almond. I'm in Canada so unsure where to buy it in the UK. It's on Amazon, too.
I've also had a dollop with pancakes. 😋😋😋

OP - your colleague was incredibly rude - don't go to lunch with her again.

(It's also a bit rude to invite yourself along on someone's lunch break - did you even want her to come??)

EeeewDavid · 14/02/2024 06:53

OP, your replies on this post have started my day with a mild chuckle. I love you, even though you are meek.

Rightsraptor · 14/02/2024 07:18

I made a lovely croissant at home the other day, filled with ham and smoked cheese. Yes, and I used butter. I'd eaten such a creation in cafes before but not thought to make it at home (I sometimes wonder about myself).

If anyone had tried to take it off me, I'd have wrestled them to the ground.

reclaimmyboobs · 14/02/2024 07:22

But croissants taste of butter! Putting butter on top is just adding the same taste. Just put some butter on some butter. Or a croissant on a croissant. The only way is a little jam, not too sweet. Or also dipped in coffee.

No, I don’t like pigs in blankets either. They make the outside of the sausages all pale and grim and the inside of the bacon flaccid. Do chipolatas separately, then bacon crisped on top of the chicken. ::bangs gavel::

Most cafes I go to don’t bring out more magical endless trays of croissants; it’s not Pret. There’s what’s at the counter and that’s your lot.

Moodicum · 13/02/2024 23:32

op. These are not normal responses to a ‘lighthearted thread.’ Are you actually ok?!

i mean you’re the one getting her knickers in a twist over your original comment, so ask yourself if you’re ok love

You’re not normal darling now off you trot

Genuine question because you’re clearly that type who sit there haughtily going onto aibu to dictate how people should act (over fucking pastry) in order to feel superior, what happened in your life to make you like this? It’s actually sad and I’m thankful I don’t go through life having to do things like you just did

You’re not letting this go @Moodicum
and now doing some serious cutting and pasting and formatting. Is it because someone called you out on something? Are you actually ok?!

ViolinSpin · 14/02/2024 07:23

I can't believe your colleague did that OP!
Do they have form for being rude?

As for the butter on a croissant, I agree but raise you...butter and jam!

What a witch. Always be the first to order.

Oi, none of the witches I know would behave like this. Witches would buy you a croissant with an oat milk latte.

nighttimeforgenerals88 · 14/02/2024 07:27

Oh, OP, I would have been SO mad.

You can take my cake, my pie, or my fish and chips, but you do not take my croissant.

But the butter melts making it even more buttery, which isn’t a bad thing!

I do dip toast in tea/coffee, but I don’t like the thought of dipping a croissant in coffee. I know it’s common to dip them in hot chocolate in France etc, now that I like the thought of!

a similar thing happened to me years ago when I was pregnant with dc1. I’d waited 5.5 years and had ivf and had HG. At a family party I suddenly realised that I fancied a piece of cheesecake and I literally hadn’t eaten properly in weeks I said to dsis ‘im just going to grab that as it looks lovely’ she swept in and took the last bit ?? I thought she was going to pass it to me but she smugly smirked and started eating it with a fork and I don’t know what came over me but I grabbed it and just ate it in about 5 mouthfuls whilst she stood there mouth open

One HG mama to another - that's hilarious!!! Do NOT mess with a hungry nauseous pregnant woman.

32degrees · 14/02/2024 07:36

I am enraged on your behalf,

What an absolute bitch.

I'd never trust her again.

Doesn’t everyone do mash and roasts…..? Does this make me common…..

i also don’t like croissants or pain au chocolate.

Have I failed at life?

Get in the sea.

TiredOfTHECHANGE · 14/02/2024 07:38

OP - DM me your address. I’m prepping the voodoo doll now. Time to stab a bishhh.

A pp mentioned croissant with butter and apricot jam which had me 😋

I like my (very rare) warm flakey croissant with a little butter and a couple slices of naice deli ham and a large black Americano coffee. Yummmm 😋

sparkyspark · 13/02/2024 21:14

Did she fuck. I had a pain au chocolat.

Well you win, surely

DogfordCats · 14/02/2024 08:00

I was staying with a friend, at her invitation. She spent the morning talking about wanting a steak bake for lunch. She was clearly craving one and really talked about it a surprising amount. She asked me what I wanted. I said I wasn't bothered as long as it was vegetarian. We queued up (yes, queued) at the bakers and she reiterated again about the steak bake, how lovely it is hot etc etc. Got near the front, clearly loads of meat options, only one cheese pasty left.

She went first and ordered the cheese pasty. No other veggie options left. She ate it and shrugged.

I declined any further invitations to visit.

AnImaginaryCat · 14/02/2024 08:03

This is actually quite worrying. What sort of role does she have in the company?

Have you reported her to HR?

If anyone thinks this is lightheated they too need reporting to someone. Anyone.

I've not had a crossiant for a year. There is no joy in life any more.

This is inexcusable.

It’s a fair comment this, OP. Your replies to some people have come across quite agressive, which was a bit jarring after the good-natured tone of your first post?! Maybe the croissant incident really put you in a worse mood than it first seemed! I think that is why people are a bit puzzled.

About 3 people are puzzled. The majority are on the exact same wavelength. It’s lighthearted on AIBU. There’s a difference.

To be fair posters like you add to it!
