I'm recovering from serious illness, I may have months until I’m back to work. We have sky, Netflix, Disney plus and Amazon prime. I need recommendations as I’ve watched far too much daytime tv! I’m quite keen on true crime and detective shows. Don’t mind dramas. So what have you watched lately that you would recommend? What books have you not been able to put down?

Just watched the Harlem Coben this week. That’s was just up my street. So good.
seen All the criminal minds, I may have a large crush on a certain character that says Baby girl a lot lol 😂

Thank you everyone. Being home with nothing but time but not being able to do anything is frustrating. I just need distracting.

Jane Casey's Meave Kerrigan series is brilliant. The first one is The Burning but it's actually the poorest - start on book two.

delilabell · 13/02/2024 22:09

@Allofaflutter I've just finished waking the dead! The background music is so annoying in tje earth ones because it feels so 90's/2000's isn't it?
I'd suggest : to catch a copper and line of duty. Happy Valley is amazing. I'm envious you're watching it from the beginning.
Susan Hill books (Simon serralier detective series) are very good too.
I hope you feel better soon. ❤️

DomesticatedSavage · 13/02/2024 22:10

Michael Connelly books, and there's TV based on the books too

idontlikealdi · 13/02/2024 22:11

Griseldaa d The One on Netflix

Itstime2023 · 13/02/2024 22:12

Books - the seven sisters series ❤️

Superscientist · 13/02/2024 22:13

When I was in hospital I found the borrow box app from the library handy for ebooks and audiobooks. If something didn't grip me I could send it back unread without the guilt of having bought it and trying to make it to the end

If you like crime I enjoy Kathy Reich's, Val mcdermid especially the wire in the blood series although the first book is a bit dated and hasn't aged well.

We have just watched only murders in the building on Disney

DaisyCat33 · 13/02/2024 22:13

Absolutely watch Happy Valley! It's amazing.

I'm currently watching Vigil on BBC iPlayer which I'm enjoying. Also just finished Blue Lights which was great too.

As for books, if you've got a kindle I love Shalini Boland. A lot of her books are on kindle unlimited. Really gripping, easy to read thrillers.

Allofaflutter · 13/02/2024 22:14

Thanks it’s extensive pulmonary embolisms which are causing me to feel really bad. When I thought I of being home off work I had lists of things to do, being ill and not able to do anything wasn’t on my mind. Tv and books are the only thing I can do to pass the time.

You need to watch Happy Valley! It’s absolutely brilliant.

QueenOfThorns · 13/02/2024 22:15

I just watched all of Happy Valley, then Life on Mars, and now I’m just about to finish Ashes to Ashes. I can’t believe I missed all these when they were on!

Allofaflutter · 13/02/2024 22:15

I do have a kindle app. I only have one hand so kindle is easier for me.

Slow Horses. You'd need to get an Apple TV sub but there's a bunch of free trials available eg if you have an EE mobile contract or an iPhone. Watch the TV series and then read all the books (Mick Herron, there's at least nine of them ).

BobbyBiscuits · 13/02/2024 22:17

Have you seen White Lotus? There's 2 seasons. I loved it.

Allofaflutter · 13/02/2024 22:17

I watched life on Mars and ashes to ashes when they came on. They were great. Apart from the obvious sexism of course.

Sellingbedtime · 13/02/2024 22:18

I've just finished The Traitors Australia (S2) absolute trash TV but worth a watch.

I can't remember what streaming service this was on but Sharp Objects was brilliant!

Allofaflutter · 13/02/2024 22:19

I didn’t watch traitors Uk as I can’t stand Claudia’s fringe lol. 😂 isn’t it amoung us but irl?
