To just feel like my child is an arse?

So....I hate perfume. Body spray...strong smells well synthetic smells anyway. My DD (11) has been asking for body spray as her friends have it. I said no, we can find a natural one I would take her shopping to find one. Today I got off my girl flu fever sofa ( got that cough fever sinus pile of shit) to take her to town with her friend for shopping. That's what she wanted to do in half term. I huddled in a cafe for 3 hours staring into space as my eyes hurt. Anyway...on the way we discuss said body spray...she said it was unfair but she wouldn't buy it ....just went in to see her and the two bottles are in her dresser! She said they are her friends who is staying...which I can tell is an absolute lie. I am so peed off with her...I feel like putting her outside with her bloody body spray. Aibu?

Oh thank you. What a slap around the face that is. I fully accept my controlling twat behavior and thank you all. Am back in the sofa feeling irritated at something else now. What an arse I am ☺️

I get migraines from things like sprays so it would be a hard no from me, perhaps OP is the same, although admittedly it would be useful if she'd simply said so.

notknowledgeable · 13/02/2024 19:57

YABmassivelyU to go into town and sit in a cafe when you are unwell. Everyone anywhere near you is now at risk over half term

Hankunamatata · 13/02/2024 19:58

Yeah yabu. I have real issue with smells like body spray as i struggle with smell but my dc do love lynx. So we compromise with spraying in bathroom with window open.

FannyFifer · 13/02/2024 19:59

They all wear horrendous smelling sprays, Victoria secret & Sol de janeiro are the ones DD wears.
I remember stinking the house out with Exclamation & the like so I can't complain really.

Hankunamatata · 13/02/2024 20:01

I love wild natural deodorant. Friend recommends spots and stripes body spray - she got it for her tween. Think they do tween friendly skin care too

Well done for taking it on the chin, OP.

Well you did ask.

NotMyDayJob · 13/02/2024 20:14

It may not be your intention but you sound a bit like my dad who wouldn't let me buy or choose my own music and has given me a life long pathological fear or expressing taste in music (and I am over 40).

Don't give her a complex about a teenage right of passage.

Nice one OP. Well done for taking the pasting.

Really hope you feel better soon!

sprigatito · 13/02/2024 20:19

Have a snotty fever-ridden hug from a fellow grump, OP. I read your OP as a semi-tongue- in-cheek rant from someone who has had a rough day and don't think you deserved an avalanche of insults for it. MN is odd sometimes. And cheap body sprays stink.

TheTimeIsNowMaybeNow · 13/02/2024 20:23

I hate the smell of lynx, I'm now on my 3rd pre teen boy. One more to go.....

Feel better soon. We have Lynx Africa here.

Noseybookworm · 13/02/2024 20:37

Yeah I think someone's being an arse and it's not your 11 year old child 😏 I know you're ill OP so hopefully will get some rest and some perspective!

Feast or famine in this house: teen ds we practically have to wrestle into the shower and douse with shower gel; pre teen dd who wafts about in clouds of body mist.

Crispyturtle · 13/02/2024 21:04

My Dad was like you, he‘s a lovely man in so many ways but he made me feel so rotten about smelling nice (to me), I can still feel that mild humiliation 25 years later. Honestly if he could have just gritted his teeth and said nothing it would have been much kinder, if you can do the same please do.

JWhipple · 13/02/2024 21:47

Wow, so none of your work colleagues, friends or families can use any body sprays in case you don't like them?

Soubriquet · 13/02/2024 21:48

Chill out. Teenage girls like body spray!

Greentangerines · 13/02/2024 22:08

You can’t be this rigid in the teenage years. I too am sensitive to smells and get headaches. My teenagers loved to smell nice. I’m not a dictator I just asked them to open a window when they used their toiletries.

WhatFlavourIsIt · 13/02/2024 22:17

As long as she's not spraying it around the house, what's the problem?. My daughter loves the sickly sweet perfumes and body washes. Not my cup of tea but I don't have to use them.

PrestonHood121 · 13/02/2024 22:26

Aww my DD has not long entered her body spray/perfume phase and she loves it. Yes, she goes all out with it sometimes and sprays so much the entire house smells like it, but she wants to feel pretty and confident. I just tell her to keep the sprays within her room or bathroom. I'd rather she feel comfortable since the pre-teen years are awkward enough. I'll pick my battles.

neilyoungismyhero · 13/02/2024 22:33

Not sure it's your daughter who is the arse

TeenLifeMum · 13/02/2024 22:37

omg why are you making parenting harder than necessary? Dc wants body spray - this is so normal. Don’t be the mum in about a boy, let dc fit in. School is hard enough, you need to pick your battles. I have 3dds and dd3 will push all boundaries but the ones I’m firm on are the ones that keep her safe! Prioritise.
