To Dislike Voice notes?

Just that really, people who voice note instead of texting or phoning. Maybe it's just me but I find it quite overwhelming to stop and find time to listen and then remember what they have said so that I can reply. I tend to just avoid the message for ages as I know that it will require me to make mental notes. Am I the only one?

Hate them, I never know if it is something dull but I need to do “pick up some milk” or something filthy that should be played privately.

Surprised how many people are receive long VNs from people they don't like🙈

I get long ones from various groups I'm in, like kids sports teams etc. It's not that I dont like these people, it's just that I don't want to spend 10 minutes listening to them rambling on. So for example, a text with the next match date, time and location takes 30 seconds to read and has all the info needed. Voicenotes I have to hear every ermm and Ahh, plus info about others players kits etc that I don't need to know. But I'm forced to listen for 10 minutes in case I miss something.
That kind of thing.

TerroristToddler · 13/02/2024 14:28

Hate with a passion!

It takes longer to listen to them, because I'm not sure what the subject matter is and some of my friends may be speaking about things the kids/work colleagues/DH shouldn't be hearing (e.g., swearing or inappropriate topics that my kids shouldn't hear, or personal stuff that the sender probably doesn't want my DH to hear about them either!). I then have to leave the message until I'm somewhere private and can listen to it.... by which point its about 5hrs later and the conversation has likely moved on anyway!

People who leave voice notes have a special place in the tenth level of hell.

I'm so glad I'm not alone in my dislike 🤣

I just don’t listen to them.

Gowlett · 13/02/2024 17:02

I usually just text the person back, without listening.

Gowlett · 13/02/2024 17:06

One of my friends just rambles stream of consciousness style, with a message buried somewhere in her voice-note. So I just assume it’s about what our last text was (even if it’s not)

Odingodof · 13/02/2024 17:08

I absolutely love them!!
Far less intrusive than phone calls and you can listen at your own time and pace. I listen when I get in from work or, in the car or whilst I'm cooking.

EveryKneeShallBow · 13/02/2024 17:12

I think the main benefit of WhatsApp is that people can’t be arsed to type long messages. Whereas with voice notes they wang on and on and on.

Odingodof · 13/02/2024 17:14

@EveryKneeShallBow 😂

I don't mind my friends waning on and on.

MirrorBack · 13/02/2024 17:14

To be fair if people could speak like they text they wouldn’t be so bad, like ‘Hi it’s x, is 5 a good time to meet?’
The problem is its
’hi hope you’re having a good day. It’s raining so much here that I’m feeling down, looking forward to getting out as a pick me up. Need to build the positive energy right now, the gyms not enough in January is it. I’m not the only one just staying in. I was thinking ahead about later and the best time and venue. Maybe also we should ask Joyce? The benfit of…’
just ARGHHHH

Exactly this.

My sisters send voice notes, drives me mad! Often a simple thumbs up or ok is all that's needed but they drone on about rubbish. And I see them all the time!

ThirtyThrillionThreeTrees · 13/02/2024 19:51

I hate them.

Can't listen to them in meetings, on public transport etc.

If you want to talk phone me when it suits us both otherwise text.

NewYearNewJob2024 · 13/02/2024 20:15

I hate them too!!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/02/2024 20:18

I find them really annoying. Fortunately only one person I know sends them.

Chanxex · 13/02/2024 20:38

Cant bear them. I don’t listen to them

“I could type a reply but no here’s a little mini podcast just for you” 🙄🙄

I hate them too. It takes so much longer to listen to the message than to read it, and people also seem to take ages to get to the point. I get really impatient listening to them

Speed them up them up to 1.5 or 2 then?

PrawnDumplings · 13/02/2024 21:07

It's just like an answer phone message 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wouldn't help - like a pp I read very quickly so I'll have read a text almost instantly that I look at it. There is no way I could take the information in as quickly in audio form.

cocoapalm · 13/02/2024 21:13

I don't like them, as in I wouldn't send one and would reply in text form, but I don't mind listening to them. One of my children's teachers (extra curricular) sends me voice notes, but he's an extremely busy person and I suspect it is a time saver.

BigFatCat2024 · 13/02/2024 21:20

I just don't bother listening to them if I'm honest, people seem to blather on with little point and i have to go at their rambling pace and I just switch off

(I detest instructional/training videos for the same reason, give me something I can read any day)

NoNameisGoodEnough · 13/02/2024 21:28

I detest them.

They always seem to start with "I thought a voice note would be easier..."

No.
