To not pick up dog poo...

... when in a quiet forest, but to flick it with a stick into dense undergrowth instead?

I don't see any issue with this, but I've got a feeling lots will disagree with me, so I wanted to get some other opinions.

When I was a child, dogs were seen as unclean animals. They clearly are environmentally damaging. There needs to be a national campaign to reduce dog ownership. People used to have one but now have three. Like anything, too many of anything causes harm.

onetwothreeee · 13/02/2024 14:01

YABU

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU

if you can't pick it up, no matter where you are, then you are an irresponsible dog owner who shouldn't be allowed to own a dog.

YAB extremly selfish knowing that a child (or any other human or animal) might step in it. It's gross

Hope you are caught and fined

Bobbytazer · 13/02/2024 14:02

Id leave it. I'll be completely honest, and possibly the only one here, I've never picked up a dog poo
My dog (before he died) would seek privacy and ONLY poo in dense undergrowth or in a bush I can't reach. My logic is why on earth would I climb into a bush to pick up a poo that is going to biodegrade quicker where it is, to put it into a plasric bag and into a bin where it'll sit rotting for X amount of time before filling up a landfill.

If he went for a poo in a playground or pavement yeah I would pick it up, but he just didn't. Ever. In 14 years. Not an exaggeration. the expectation that I climb into undergrowth or a spot only a dog can reach to pick up a turd in its natural environment to bag it up and bin it to go to a landfill is crazy to me. And whether it's the law or right or wrong in anyone else's eyes, I think anybody that WOULD climb in a bush to pick that turd up is illogical

Thedance · 13/02/2024 14:02

yes very unreasonable. Its your dog ans you are responsible for it, bag it and take it home

But what about all the other animals that shit in the forest ? Like foxes , badgers etc ?

That is totally different, no one is responsible for them. but if you have a dog it is your responsibility to make sure it isn't a nuisance

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 13/02/2024 14:10

Flickersy · 13/02/2024 13:58

Why would I want to have to trail them through streams of dogs piss and heaps of shite spread far and wide, which are more often than not, the full width of the pavement?

I don't know what kind of weird hovel you live in, but I suggest you move.

It's merely the school run. The last 100 yards or so is a toxic obstacle course. Lots of parents carry scooters and bikes because of the state of the pavements.

And this is a village school on a village green in a very salubrious area. Too posh to pick 😉

It’s the same here. It drives me nuts… I want to go and trample dog poo into all the lazy buggers carpets to see how they like it.

I wonder how many angry posters on this thread have untrained, outdoor cats that shit anywhere & everywhere

You don’t notice cat shit so much though because most of the UK’s 11million cats seem to shit in my garden

So dogs should all stay in the paths too?

Madness isn't it? Just utterly ludicrous, nanny-state tripe. Honestly. Confused

Errrr yes! Just because my land has a footpath running through it doesn’t give you a right to go roaming wherever you want. Adults, children AND dogs should stay on the path!!!!

I don't 'when you were a child' but I'm an old gimmer born late mid-late 1960s, and I don't ever remember dogs being labelled as 'unclean animals.' Confused

I think humans are the most grim and disgusting creatures on Earth, who pollute the planet. It's not dogs, and not cats either!

And I say this as someone who does not have a dog. I just get tired of the inane dog bashing on here.

Errr, if it's your LAND why is anyone allowed on it anyway?! Confused

Get it fenced off if you're THAT bothered about PEOPLE and DOGS!

FFS! Hmm

herewegoagainy · 13/02/2024 14:27

You used to see lots of dog poo on pavements and paths. It is very rare now.

cardibach · 13/02/2024 14:29

Katemax82 · 13/02/2024 07:19

That's disgusting! Pick it up!! Someone will tread in it no matter how dense the undergrowth you flick it in

Do you have the same concern about fox poo? Badger? They both pootle about the woods at night pooing at will...

herewegoagainy · 13/02/2024 14:29

@SweetBirdsong it will be a public path with rights of way. Legally the public have to have access.

That poster whining about HER LAND can still fence it off if PEOPLE and DOGS roaming over it are so utterly offensive to her. 🙄

You don’t own all the land. There is plenty of publicly owned land left (thank God). Other than farm land and gardens everything round here is public land.- there are regulations about fires/camping/quad bikes etc, but absolutely no expectation that people don’t walk (or even run!) around.

Where there are ground nesting birds or delicate fauna etc there are signs, but other than that the only ‘stay on the footpath’ signs are on farmland.

Because a public footpath is a public right of way.

Unless there is a specific right to roam, the public have a right to use the footpath only, and should stay on the footpath with dogs on a lead.

It’s expensive and inconvenient to have to fence off a footpath because of twats and their self-indulgent behaviour.

Moonfishstar · 13/02/2024 06:44

you absolutely cannot guarantee this! plus you cannot be sure your dog is going to poo near dense brambles .just pick it up and bring it home

You absolutely cannot guarantee anything in life! If we all only did things where we could absolutely guarantee the outcome, we'd never leave the house!

Yes so pick it up then.

noonesproblem · 13/02/2024 13:42

Well that's short sighted. If you want the upcoming generations to value nature and wild spaces, they have to be able to nurture their interest of love of them by enjoying being in them and exploring and playing.

Or they could just hope that the upcoming generation will value these things anyway because they are precious, and not be entitled enough to only want to protect them if they have full access to trample all over them. They're not being banned from the woods, just being asked to not walk in certain areas of it.

They’re not really wild spaces if they’re full of people and dogs playing and exploring in them anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

You take your chances though.

Round my way they have patrols and if they see someone not cleaning up after their dog they get a hefty fine. They got 3 people last month.

I often see people looking round furtively after their dog has had a crap to see who is watching.

In fact the parish magazine probably should be called the dog poo policing magazine.

SarcocystisFayeri · 13/02/2024 13:43

Yea that’s in the uk.

Thing is, horse meat doesn’t (or shouldn’t) enter the human food chain in the UK (and there are controls as to what can enter the human food chain in France etc.)

What happens to horses that die that are taken away and not cremated, well…🤷‍♀️ I can well imagine that they end up in the pet food chain. It’s certainly worth asking your supplier “Is there any horse meat in this?”

My son is a zoologist and carnivores at zoos and wildlife parks eat horses.
Not sure if that accounts for all the slaughtered horses, I’m assuming many are sent abroad to countries that eat them.

It's not the same, for god's sake! Dogs are NOT wildlife.
