To think: Enough with Taylor Swift, the boyfriend, the Superbowl and the beer all over the news!!

Every news report, every newspaper that I've seen all have about TS and her kissing her 'winning' boyfriend (who doesn't seem that nice) at the Superbowl

There are many, MANY more important things to hear/read about than this.

I once asked a colleague in her 20's what the deal was with Taylor Swift and why everyone loved her.

I thought she was going to knock me out 😂😂😂 (she would t she's an absolute darling)

She did explain though.

And I still don't get it 😂😂😂

I did say that IMO TS is what the PR company has made her and probably not really her! I do worry that she'll go the way of other massive young female stars before her. She'll burn out from having to be the marketable person and never being allowed to be her.

outsidethemug · 12/02/2024 13:25

@blooblom of course but you'd think the score, the players, the halftime performance or anything else actually related to the game!

Your Google must work differently to mine then. Because I was able to find out the score instantly without even seeing anything to do with TS.

Seen those kids in gaza eating animal feed?

She doesn't seem the type, I think she'll be more of a Madonna type but not take it all the way to corpse level. I think she'll retire-ish at 45, write songs for other people, and hang out with her cats.

bouncydramatics · 12/02/2024 14:16

Haven't heard anything about the superbowl except that Beyoncé did an ad and has released two new songs 🐝

You're seeing the stuff you engage in.

But the fact that this is in the news doesn't mean that other things are not in the news. I watch and/or listen to many news bulletins every day and I see pretty much all the newspapers and I can assure you that this is not getting more time or space than any non-celeb news.

I don't really 'get' Taylor Swift but she's currently the biggest pop star in the world and millions of people are interested in her. I don't expect news to be tailored (no pun intended) to my personal preferences. You don't need to read any coverage if you're not interested.

Yes. Yesterday morning 😢

Yes, I have. And the reason we've seen it is because it was covered by the media. That story hasn't been bumped off the news because of Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl. Gaza is not being ignored by the world's media.

FieldInWhichFucksAreGrownIsBarren · 12/02/2024 14:27

It is tedious tbf, the news story should be about the team not one player and his girlfriend -was wondering this morning what his team mates and their other halves thought about it...
Usher also put on an awesome halftime show but this came further down the newsfeed than TS, wtaf?

Weightwatcher2 · 12/02/2024 14:29

Well, I had a massive crush on her fella and I’m not sure why… The Taylor Swift effect? I’m off him now though after seeing him swearing and roughing up his coach. I am sure he’d be heartbroken to know…

So why start another thread on this non important issue?! Ironic.

Because I think it taking up so much space across news outlets is important.

We need light-hearted stuff too but imo this is overkill

What made you respond? as it's 'non-important'?

But something else was.

Something maybe as frivolous.

We'll never know

No. The news expands to fill the space available. Algorithms are a thing that help to refine this.

as someone said upthread, the fluff around the Super Bowl has been mainstream news in the UK for 20-25 years at least, since Janet Jackson’s nipple invented YouTube…

It usually does for a day or two then something else takes its place like most news. As I said earlier, it hasn’t been a full day. The game was at 11:30pm UK time so unsurprisingly it would be on the morning news outlets.

JudgeJ · 12/02/2024 16:09

SirenSays · 12/02/2024 12:16

Give it a day, the superbowl is big news every year. Why do you say Travis doesn't seem that nice?

Is it 'big news' in this country though? Personally even though I'm quite a sports fan I've never had any inclination to watch American football and as for the fuss made about this apparently well-known couple surely any coverage should be about the match?

SongWriter · 12/02/2024 16:09

All the other news is still there to read about OP.

The Super Bowl was brilliant, edge of your seat stuff and the fact Taylor is dating Travis was always going to be reported. They’re both huge stars.

Just ignore it if it’s not for you, that’s what I did when it was the Kings cancer recently. I read and watched a couple of reports and then avoided it, easily done.

I’ve just read reports on the Ukraine War, two bodies being found in the Thames, the death of a young marathon runner as well as Elton Johns belongings being auctioned and Bagpuss the cat. Theres plenty of other news OP.

You need to calm down. 😅

Happy to be living under a rock. Don't have a tv licence, don't listen to pop music.

Greetings from another rock-dweller! I'd heard the name but a couple of months ago I saw a photo and realised the singer's a woman, the name sounds so male.

ChlorineSalt · 12/02/2024 16:14

Nanny0gg · 12/02/2024 12:09

Because it's all over the news. Unless you're living under a rock you've seen/watched/heard about it

So I am asking (I think) a perfectly reasonable question

How dumbed down do we have to be?

I don’t live under a rock. But I have a busy job and had not heard this news until you mentioned it. You are advertising this news to many people. I might look it up now.

peakygold · 12/02/2024 16:18

Taylor Swift is the Kylie Minogue of our time. Manufactured pop star. Insipid, safe, bland, guarded.

Me either but news is radio not tv and this stuff passes me by

I looked it up after to see what op was on about so that’ll bump up the views thanks to op ;

Even if you don't watch TV I don't understand how it's possible to not even know that Taylor Swift is a female? You don't read newspapers, listen to the radio or go outside either? Her eras tour is pretty big news and coming to the UK over the summer. You've never seen a poster for it or anything?

You said it’s non important, not me!

I read and watch a range of sources. I like the lighthearted stuff. The Super Bowl is a big deal and only once a year.

Clafoutie · 12/02/2024 18:10

Yes, I totally agree OP. It is overkill. It shows, yet again, where the media’s priority lie, and what makes them their money, which is our obsession with ‘celebrity’.
