Every news report, every newspaper that I've seen all have about TS and her kissing her 'winning' boyfriend (who doesn't seem that nice) at the Superbowl

There are many, MANY more important things to hear/read about than this.

Here we go, another Taylor Swift thread.

American Football is increasingly piper amongst the younger generation in the UK - playing and watching, as they have access to all the NFL games now.

Understand that too.

A friend's son plays.

It's the fact that I've heard it on the news every hour.

Once or twice would have been enough

@BoogieBoogieWoogie Travis had a moment with Andy Reid last night, the photos don't look great but Reid not Travis seemed particularly phased by it after the fact.

Because it's all over the news. Unless you're living under a rock you've seen/watched/heard about it

So I am asking (I think) a perfectly reasonable question

How dumbed down do we have to be?

Happy to be living under a rock. Don't have a tv licence, don't listen to pop music.

I'm very happy

EeeewDavid · 12/02/2024 12:43

Oh god yes!!! I am so sick of seeing her everywhere. I can't stand superbowl but it's a big event, so I get it going to get a lot of coverage. Yet they seem more concerned about whether she attended or not and it's soooooo over the top.

TBH, it's not even about there being more important things going on in the world, it's just so tedious to have the same person rammed in your face when they aren't even anything to do with the event!

SwordToFlamethrower · 12/02/2024 12:44

Love your user name OP! Just finished reading Wyrd Sisters

blooblom · 12/02/2024 12:44

All over the news? Is it? I've heard more about it on MN than anywhere else.

outsidethemug · 12/02/2024 12:46

I like Taylor Swift and thought Travis Kelce seemed quite nice from his podcast with his brother. Not impressed with the way he shoved and screamed at his coach however.

But even I'm sick of all the news about them, it's so dull to make the sport all about Taylor, the Super Bowl is big and famous enough as it is without watering it down

KenAdams · 12/02/2024 12:48

It's the last day for the news of the NFL, the season is over now.

There's a massive UK Gridiron with lots of leagues so there's a huge fan base over here. Not sure what the problem is with sports gaining international fans.

Your problem is you're looking at 24 hour news. They just repeat everything on the hour.

outsidethemug · 12/02/2024 12:49

Its disingenuous of people to suggest it's not everywhere! I just googled Super Bowl 2024 and a Taylor Swift article is the first result.

Sunshineandpinkclouds · 12/02/2024 12:50

I agree with you OP. It was all over my news page this morning - so many (too many!) articles! I'm abroad and I thought my webpage had logged me onto a US version but no this was a UK online paper.

Def way more this year and I'm not interested. Maybe it's the TS effect?

shearwater2 · 12/02/2024 12:51

Don't watch the news. I don't, most of the time.

Though I agree in general there is always too much about the US and not enough about our much nearer neighbours.

I don't

I read and/or listen

I hate to think what Breakfast news was like!

I understand Taylor Swift attended the Superbowl to support her boyfriend, so I guess I don't live under a rock, but what does beer have to do with it?

She drank some...

Loads of people in the UK love American football - my DH is nuts for it. Loads of people in the UK love Taylor Swift. Press coverage doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.

TizerorFizz · 12/02/2024 13:00

@Nanny0gg The USA has taken over! We just copy them. Takes 4 hours to wade through a 1 hour game. It is all about huge units “hitting” each other and massive “collisions”. Sound familiar? Yes, it’s American Rugby. Yuk. Rugby as we know it is ending up as a collision sport with far less open play and running skills than we used to see.

Alwayswonderedwhy · 12/02/2024 13:00

I haven't seen anything about this in the news.

SheerLucks · 12/02/2024 13:02

My heart sank too - the four news stories in the Daily Mail were the Super Bowl, Taylor and Travis, even what adverts were aired.

There's never been this much interest before...

outsidethemug · 12/02/2024 13:25

@blooblom of course but you'd think the score, the players, the halftime performance or anything else actually related to the game!

I'm a Taylor Swift fan, and all I've caught of it today was a few seconds on BBC Breakfast (DH was watching, not me 😁). Otherwise I've listened to Woman's Hour and a harrowing report about women and girls in Gaza, and later Winifred Robinson talking about fraud and not paying your water bill. Not a Swift reference among 'em. It's not that hard to avoid.

The Superbowl has always made the UK news, especially the half-time entertainment, etc. As for dumbing down, it's an American football game, it's hardly highbrow in the first place!

the80sweregreat · 12/02/2024 13:57

When Janet Jackson had that ' wardrobe malfunction' at the half time entertainment event she was definitely all over the news and this was years ago.
