For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Bi fold doors
Navy/Grey decor
Kitchen Islands
Totally open plan

lieselotte · 11/02/2024 21:39

I hate fake grass as well but that is because it is an eco-sin, not because it hurts any design sensibilities.

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 11/02/2024 21:39

Mirrored wardrobes

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 21:39

@Runnerinthenight I already said my bed head wasn’t pressed right up to the wall nor are my beside cabinets. My wardrobes are built in so are against the wall. Some people don’t live any gap though which is what pp talking about & often a few inches gap can make a difference.

Why is everybody all of a sudden so against the colour grey…?

I personally quite like it if it’s used right - we have a very dark grey (I think called midnight grey?) wall in our living room with wooden panelling (our tv is recessed in it) - we built it ourselves from reclaimed scaffolding boards, and I think they go beautifully together. It’s actually one of the things I’m most proud of in our house (we try to do as many things ourselves as possible both for money saving perspective as well as the joy of making our house transform into our home)

A lot of MN people are just snobby (not all of course) about anything that’s popular. I think some people think it makes them edgy! Obviously some people just don’t like the colour which is fair enough.

I’ve currently got some off Strong White (off white) and Cornforth White (more pale grey) in some rooms and then colour in others. However, I’m getting rid of the colour and going back to off white. I find it so much more calming.

ReignOfError · 11/02/2024 21:40

Grey.

Open plan.

UVPC conservatories, especially when they are too big for the garden, and/or stuck in an inconvenient place, like off a bedroom.

Not interior, I know, but fucking astroturf.

viques · 11/02/2024 21:40

sentimental slogans written on walls/ plaques etc.

viques · 11/02/2024 21:42

Multiple cushions on beds. Pillows fine, but cushions are not needed.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 11/02/2024 21:43

Brown carpets
Magnolia
Laminate floors
Boilers in bedrooms don't care if it's in a cupboard it's a definite no from me
Open plan

I love grey though 😂

Charlieradioalphapapa · 11/02/2024 21:43

Masses of decorative cushions on beds
LED candles and tealights
plastic flowers /plants, no matter how realistic they are supposed to look.
kitchens with nothing at all on the counters/kitchens with masses of stuff on counters
bar stools
upcycled wooden furniture
large, statement ornaments like silver ammonites or metal wall art.

macrame or crocheted anything.
fleece or mock velvet shiny throws
coffee table books artfully displayed or used to set table lamps or vases on top of.
Bubble vases, candlesticks, plant pots.
black and white rugs with diamond shapes on that have been around for last decade.
over the door hooks
mirror door wardrobes
gold kitchen knobs/taps etc
Two long leather sofas facing each other pushed right back against the back of walls

MrsMitford3 · 11/02/2024 21:43

I don't know what a media wall is.

Bitterly regret my grey phase and am ruthlessly eliminating it.

I Loooooove my granite worktop.

I have bifold doors on the back of my victorian semi and they are wonderful-open for months and makes it open and house and garden blur.

I hate carpet in the loo. Can't bear my feet on previously wet rug from someone getting out of shower before me.

Hate coloured sheets. Feature walls. Big poppy dramatic wallpaper.
Minimalist showy rooms. Glossy furniture. Fake plants and flowers.

FluffyFanny · 11/02/2024 21:44

That shiny grey carpet that shows all the hoover marks!

NotFastButFurious · 11/02/2024 21:45

The grey plague
those velour dining chairs that have what looks like a door knocker on the back of them eg https://www.dfs.co.uk/luann/ivl1fbnn1?skuId=6016049

FloofyKat · 11/02/2024 21:45

Viewfrommyhouse · 11/02/2024 20:15

Pampas grasses in tall vases.
Eyelet curtains.
Bifolds.
Grey.
Photos (including those god awful canvas pics you can have made) on walls - walls are for art, not family photo albums.
Integrated appliances.
Roller blinds.
Vertical blinds.
Sill length curtains.
Herringbone flooring.
Anything mirrored (other than an actual mirror).
Neon signs.
Open shelves in kitchens.
Chopped cushions.
Media walls.
Fake panelling, particularly in modern houses.
Acoustic walls.

There's a few to start with.

Edited

What’s a chopped cushion?

Aarla · 11/02/2024 21:45

So who has the ‘perfect’ mumsnet house, with NONE of the things hated on this thread…😂

Fair enough, everyone’s got their personal preference, of course not everyones going to like everything - if just feels like there’s some sort of a rebellion against poor grey nowadays hahaha

I also quite like a white colour, so many different ways you can accessorise a white room - I hope it’ll make your home feel great for you 😊

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 11/02/2024 21:47

I don’t get all the hate of bifolds?! We have French doors and bifolds in our north facing kitchen diner and it’s so helpful in getting as much light as possible.

I dislike vertical blinds , hard flooring in bedrooms ( unless they are original) fake flowers, everything greige, mess, surfaces covered in shit for ‘styling sake’, huge tvs, people who have the ‘big light’ on, leather sofas and houses with no hallway.

Cnidarian · 11/02/2024 21:47

Most things already mentioned.

People that buy old houses and rip them out to look modern. Just buy a modern house and leave the old one for people who love them!

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 21:47

Grey can look nice but there was a huge trend a few yrs ago to have everything grey which is what I think most mean when talking about grey

Dapbag · 11/02/2024 21:50

people who have the ‘big light’ on

This.

Pigglyplaystruant99 · 11/02/2024 21:51

UPVC front doors
Plastic plant pots
Fake grass
Media walls
Anything sparkly
Crushed velvet
Eyelet curtains
Spotlights
Fake marble worktops
Fake electric fires
Gas fires
Decking
People who decide to decorate part of the street that's outside their house that doesn't belong to them. Keep your plastic shit and gnomes in your own house.
Coloured fairy lights

Delphiniumandlupins · 11/02/2024 21:51

Books arranged by colour that look as though they have never been read.

Jingleballs2 · 11/02/2024 21:52

Those horrible neon strip lights people put behind the TV, or at the bottom of the kitchen cabinets 🤢 and yes, all grey!

LindaDawn · 11/02/2024 21:52

peachgreen · 11/02/2024 19:56

Tab top are the best but I much prefer eyelet to pencil pleat!

Need to choose some curtains. What’s wrong with eyelet curtains?
