For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Interested to hear yours!

@bombastix you couldn't get more naturally ventilated than my house and wooden front door that doesn't close properly.

So that's what they are called!

AllTheChaos · 12/02/2024 00:20

Oh, @ghostyslovesheets, I love the term ‘suicide yellow’ for magnolia! I’m so stealing that!

These 🫣

How weird!

Exactly. I am just totally used to that now. I removed a uPVC door from my last two houses. The last occupant of my place had a dog. The door, the downstairs carpet and a lot of cleaning was required on moving in

BrainInAJar · 12/02/2024 00:22

What is wrong with eyelet curtains?!!!!!!!!

AllTheChaos · 12/02/2024 00:24

A good fabric sofa lasts too.

Not in this house it doesn’t
eyeballs elderly cat who keeps pissing on the sofa

Properhoolietoday · 12/02/2024 00:24

Victorian house renovations which rip out the Victorian features, it makes me weep.

sanferryanne · 12/02/2024 00:25

Grey
Dark navy or green panelling
High gloss kitchens with no handles

How the hell are you meant to tuck your curtains behind the radiators if the curtains are floor length?

Radiators under windows are one of the maddest things ever! There must've been a good reason for it when central heating first came in but, whatever it was, it's been superseded for a long time now.

I know a lot of MNers dislike vertical rads but I'd have 'em if I could afford to change my system. My wall space is valuable (but less valuable than paying to heat a window!) Or underfloor heating ... excuse me while I go into a reverie about perfectly even warmth everywhere ...

suicune · 12/02/2024 00:26

Beige/grey/white neutral decor.

I just find it so boring.

Much prefer going into a home that has variations of colour and texture. Might not be for everyone but at least it actually tells you a bit about the folk who live there. I like when people really go all in and their home really tells you about their passions and loves in life. It’s just so much more interesting and welcoming. So many conversation pieces.

The beige/grey homes remind me of a cosmetic surgeons waiting room.

Family photos always reminds me of Captain Holt. I can’t say I disagree with him.

Totally disagree. Our extended family live thousands of miles away and my kids have all left home so I will have 10000 photos of them all around the house if I want to. And to be honest, even if they all lived next door, some of those photos will never cease to make my heart soar just looking at them

BoomBoom70 · 12/02/2024 00:28

I’m so now going on to Rightmove with a mental tick box of all of these. 😂

bombastix · 12/02/2024 00:29

@AllTheChaos - your cat is making some intense criticism of your sofa!

MaverickBoon · 12/02/2024 00:32

Also loathe eyelet curtains and have never really known why.

Words on walls, as per 302 PPs.

I think all my pet hates have been covered in here but it's interesting that a lot of the stuff being referred to is essentially what you might call working class/lower middle-class aspirational. It's what you can buy at B&M, the Range, and Home Bargains on a tight budget and it represents a version, for the people buying it, of what you see on Insta, (perceived) aspirational TV programmes etc. I think the options for improving home decor on a budget are better now than they've ever been but I'm not blind to the fact that it's down to the homeware equivalent of fast fashion.

RosesAndHellebores · 12/02/2024 00:14

Trends, readily available on the high street.

Grey (I agree)
Live, Love, etc., although Fuck above the bed is OK
Feature walls
Dark walls (unless huge, grand rooms)
Endless plates on walls
Kitsch ornaments
Prints from furniture shops that are reproduced all over the place - modern day green ladies ifyswim

Yeah, I could go with Fuck all over the place 😆
In different cutesy fonts.

Namechangeforname · 11/02/2024 23:50

know this is about interiors but…people doing this to lovely period properties makes me cringe. I hate this black door/windows trend.

Those are the ones!

And those doors are everywhere. I think they look dated already.

MaverickBoon · 12/02/2024 00:38

@RosesAndHellebores what's the problem with plates on walls?! Is this a thing?

Lilacanemone · 12/02/2024 00:39

Wictc · 11/02/2024 22:42

Olive - the new grey
Dark blue kitchen cabinets
TVs on the wall

Is olive the in thing now? Maybe our seventies bathroom and kitchen are back in fashion then Grin

mondaytosunday · 12/02/2024 00:39

Ha @nightnightcircus! I LOVE my white handle less kitchen! @peachgreen what countertops do you approve of? Other than wood or laminate or concrete I can't think what isn't quartz, marble or granite? Composite?
I hate anything with words, those studio family portraits, fake plants, those awful modern brass or polished chrome fake stone gas fireplaces (I mean stone in the grate).
Pebbledash, uPVC windows and doors. And really hate those plastic round hanging balls of foliage/flowers people put either side of their doors.

Onautopilot1 · 12/02/2024 00:42

Black walls.... actually black paint anywhere! Like grey, no imagination!

Garlickit · 12/02/2024 00:42

Oh, you'll all HATE this! I've got one. Not the same (I like this one, though) but similar. It's on a chest of drawers.
