For me it’s got to be those massive bloody clocks made up of parts which get stuck to the wall. We’re house hunting at the moment and they’re in almost every kitchen. Those and navy walls nearly always coupled with wicker furniture and cheese plants - it feels like such a ‘done’ look now.

Interested to hear yours!

Beams
Especially dark wood beams
Traditional houses that have had a contemporary makeover, completely out of period.
Fake grass

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 22:31

Metro tiles.

I wouldn’t even view a house that had them. They make me think of public lavatories

How long ago were public toilets with metro tiles commonplace?

Updownleftandright · 11/02/2024 22:31

Banksy style wall art
Garish wallpaper
Slogan wall art
Rainbow coloured rooms - family rooms like the lounge or kitchen decorated as you would a kids bedroom.
Not much really bothers me about people's homes. It's their home and mine is far from perfect. I think it's worse to be too desperate to impress people.

I think everyone just get exactly what you like and what makes you happy. I think these threads are so horrible… what if someone is really proud of their home and has loads of these ‘trends?’

also, ridiculous to say things like ‘plants’ ‘grey’ ‘furniture against walls’ 😂

I have several of the things that have been criticised on this thread.

I don't give a shit. I just quietly celebrate my superior taste 😄

Fake plastic grass
Mirrored anything
Grey, grey, grey
Fluffy, sparkly carpets
Gloss kitchens, especially in red
Cold white lights, especially spotlights
Faux marble anything
Sparkly granite countertops (not because they look bad but because they are revolting to keep clean)
"Upcycled" furniture which is code for "Sharon got bored on a Sunday afternoon and painted this beautiful mahogany bureau with dusty rose chalk paint"
Those fucking chairs with the door knockers on the back

Gosh you'd hate my house. I have:

TV on the wall- there is nowhere else for it to go.
No hallway - mid terrace property
No bath - bathroom too small
Dark walls - shoot me, I like colour
Plants - really good for the environment and I like them
Velvet sofa - not crushed. So easy to clean
Dark grey carpet in teenage sons room - totally practical, doesn't show marks or stains

Grey , mirrored furniture , bling & 100 cushions on the bed

sorestupid · 11/02/2024 22:35

Why are eyelet curtains so bad? I have some kind of pleat but the curtains were here when we moved in & I don't really know much about curtains.

Charlize43 · 11/02/2024 22:36

Eyelet curtains.

I'm sure they'll have these in Hell.

Callsrecorded · 11/02/2024 22:36

Be interesting to see pictures of peoples homes on here… I’m imagining lots of pictures of folks prepping the infamous mumsnet chicken in massive mansions whilst their 6 figure salary DH’s relax with their 6 foot plus sons

laclochette · 11/02/2024 22:38

GREY.
Crushed velvet
Brilliant white (can be good but needs lots of skill to pull off)
Any art with live laugh love style mottos in it
Feature walls of almost any kind
Quilted style padded headboards.
Walls painted only part way up in rooms too low-ceilinged, so the whole space feels compressed and squat.
Curtains that aren't down to the floor.
Sofas too big for the room.
Eyelet curtains!!!

JonnyTheDogFacedBoy · 11/02/2024 22:38

Fake grass - pure tackiness. On a par with keeping the plastic wrap on your soft furnishings.
Carpet in bathrooms/toilets - even Louis Pasteur would think you're a dirty minger.

These paintings...

The chunky square panelling feature wall that seems to be all the rage in bedrooms at the moment. I don’t even know what it is about it, but I really don’t care for it.

Boomboomshakeshaketheroom · 11/02/2024 22:39

The faux country look that was big in the 80s, especially loads of knotty pine furniture against yellow walls.

BonheursTrousers · 11/02/2024 22:39

Grey, crushed velvet, fake crystals lighting, yellow pine, carpet, flooring that isn’t real wood or tiles if a bathroom/bootroom, kitchen.

Houses without books, printed canvas, photographs scattered everywhere or on the walls, prefer smaller framed photos grouped together on one piece of furniture, slogans on walls, fake panelling, big bright pattered wallpaper, big televisions that are the focus point of a room, kitchen islands, corner sofas.

Houses I’ve admired are ones that looked lived in, scattered books, original art (this can be bought fairly cheaply at student shows), mix of antique and new furniture, pattern, lots of colour in soft furnishings like sofas and rugs etc.

I hate it when people remove perfectly good interiors for no fucking reason other than the fashion has changed.

Fair if your kitchen is from the 90s and falling to bits. It’s just so so wasteful to see people constantly overconsuming for the sake of instagram.

Wictc · 11/02/2024 22:42

Olive - the new grey
Dark blue kitchen cabinets
TVs on the wall

I hate those frilly pelmet things on top of curtains. Even worse if flowery.

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 11/02/2024 22:44

Grey with silver accents, grey brushed velvet or fluffy cushions, grey carpet, greyyyyyy

Hopefully they'll be secure enough in their own choices not to give a shit. There's been a few things mentioned that I have in my home - but I love them, so don't give a hoot 🤷‍♀️

Texas85 · 11/02/2024 22:44

I think people are just listing as many popular trends they can remember rather than actually things they hate.

Disliking stuff just because its popular is as unimaginative as always following trends.

CountFucula · 11/02/2024 22:44

Grey -especially sofas
artificial grass
mirrored things that aren’t mirrors
weird taps that are square
Professional family photos - sorry, I’m a miserable bastard I guess
