To think King Charles would do more for awareness by saying which cancer he has

DontLeanOnTheKeyboard · 06/02/2024 21:05

Why all the secrecy? Everyone knows where the prostate is so is fully aware of the initial investigations - if he is happy to share that very personal info, why not say what cancer? It would surely be more useful for him to say ‘it’s this, I had symptoms but ignored them..’

Same as what the Queen died of and I think Kate’s missed a trick in not making herself more human by sharing a little more around the abdo surgery. Childbirth does all kinds of shit to women’s bodies, it seems a good subject to say ‘happens to us all’

Is there some royal protocol that means they can’t say?

The royals live an extremely privileged life. With privilege comes responsibility. It would be the right thing to do to share his diagnosis in order to raise awareness. He will get the very best treatment available and he won’t have to wait a single day.

No, the right thing to do would be for you to rein your nosiness in and not parade it under the guise of "raising awareness" when all you want is to satisfy your voyeuristic nature.

Dulra · 07/02/2024 08:42

I would imagine the reason is to stop people speculating on the treatment and on the survival rates etc. I am not sure if the Queen ever fully disclosed illnesses she had (I could be wrong though). As he mentioned about the prostate it is unlikely to do with privacy and more to do with security and to prevent speculation about his life expectancy. I do hope it is an easily treatable one I did worry initially that it might be pancreatic as there was so symptoms.
Let him focus now on treatment and time to recover

Redheadredemption · 07/02/2024 07:11

Nobody is asking for complete medical notes - don’t be ridiculous.

Bollocks. Of course they are. The media would love it, as would some on here by the look of it. They are trying to put it under the altruistic guise of "raising awareness" though, which is completely see through.

peakygold · 07/02/2024 08:54

It could be rectal or testicular cancer. Would you want your private parts discussed ad infinitum by the whole world's media?

Fofftwenty21 · 07/02/2024 09:00

Yes completely agree all its done is lead to speculation.

I also don't understand why its being reported that he's raising awareness of cancer when 1 in 2 people get cancer, it's not a little known disease!

hudpat · 07/02/2024 09:05

They have the right to privacy and not to have every detail of their illness picked over. If Charles makes a statement saying he has a particular type of cancer there will be weeks of articles in the press about the prognosis and statistics for that cancer and dramatic headlines.

If he chooses to share what it is and what symptoms there were (if any) that's up to him, as is the timing of that announcement or if it's something with no symptoms with a good screening programme, he could raise awareness of that at a later point. But not now, a couple of days after diagnosis.

Jade Goody's cervical cancer diagnosis increased the number of women going for smear tests for several years after her death. That raised awareness. But it's up to each individual to decide what and if they want to disclose what they have. And in Charles' case, he is king, so there are various protocols that have to be followed.

HiItsMeImTheProblemItsMe · 07/02/2024 09:17

It's been days since he got the news. Give the man a chance to digest the news.

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 07/02/2024 09:17

Such rudeness on here, just because someone dared to have a different opinion. Articulate reasoning would be far more effective than a personal attack.

wildernesssw · 07/02/2024 09:24

I also don't understand why its being reported that he's raising awareness of cancer when 1 in 2 people get cancer, it's not a little known disease!

And I will point out again - the 'raising awareness' was about having an enlarged prostate, not about cancer

jasflowers · 07/02/2024 09:27

We don't need to know, he should have said nothing, its irrelevant to us all.

Whats the point in this "Raising awareness" stuff?

GPs and Hospitals cannot deal with the cases they have now, without even more people wanting appointments & tests, adding to already super long waiting lists.

newnamethanks · 07/02/2024 09:28

No. Since the announcement, the media has been in a frenzy as expected. Further explanation will lead to more speculation. There are foreign media teams pointoessly waiting outside Buckingham Palace already on death watch. I'm not a royalist but give the poor souls some semblance of privacy. Nobody, rich or poor, wants an unexpected cancer diagnosis to deal with.

guineverehadgreeneyes · 07/02/2024 09:28

DG1749: The PoW should 100% have said what her surgery was, assuming it was something routine; eg. could have said hysterectomy without sharing any details of her actual condition.

Why? Why do you need to know?

And why are so many of you still fixated on hysterectomy which even in the NHS can often be avoided if the patient has a preference for conservative management and which NICE no longer recommends as first line treatment for non cancerous diseases.

In addition to the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries, the abdominal cavity contains the stomach, small intestine (jejunum and ileum), large intestine (colon), liver, spleen, gallbladder, pancreas, kidneys, ureters, bladder and many blood vessels. Her operation could have been related to any of those.

It's bladder cancer.. they found it when he had the camera tube into his postrate.
A surgeon spoke about this morning.

Source?

quisensoucie · 07/02/2024 09:32

@DontLeanOnTheKeyboard Why are you being so nosey?
It makes no difference to the general population which cancer he may have, nor does it make any difference to the general population to know what was the matter with the Princess of Wales
Would you like your medical conditions splashed all over all forms of media
Unless of course, you are some super cancer expert who they have yet to ask advice from

Manyandyoucanwalkover · 07/02/2024 09:38

Surely if you don’t want to be news, you remove yourself from the public eye. Or in the case of Kate, you don’t sign up for it in the first place.

KreedKafer · 07/02/2024 09:44

I can’t stand the royal family, but fucking hell, no human being should be obliged to talk about the details of their bloody cancer.

(Also, as they only found it by chance when he was being treated for something else, he almost certainly had no symptoms whatsoever.)

Ghouella · 07/02/2024 09:57

I desperately want to know what cancer he has, what surgery Kate has had etc, because like many others, I am a nosey bastard. That doesn't make it my business or my right to know. They are entitled to privacy.

Moonshine5 · 07/02/2024 10:00

Sspholidayquery · 07/02/2024 07:13

I also don't understand why people keep the type of cancer they have a secret. I've had HER2+ breast cancer and NH Lymphoma. People who have never had cancer cannot understand what it is like to have cancer. I hear of people getting this cunt of a disease and automatically think 'I wonder what type, will they survive?' I worry that they have the same types as me and then they die and I worry more that I'm going to die horribly.

Thank you for sharing.
I know people who have have both and are thriving. I wish you all the luck in the world.@Sspholidayquery

Jovacknockowitch · 07/02/2024 10:14

I prefer the King's approach to that of most minor celebrities who make a podcast, a documentary series and write three books about their cancer diagnosis.

hellsBells246 · 07/02/2024 10:25

He's entitled to medical privacy!

He did help to raise awareness of prostrate issues in older men - the NHS website reported an increase in people accessing this page. So that's good.

But neither he nor Kate need to divulge their medical information to nosey randoms!

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/02/2024 10:25

None of your business.

Dogdilemma2000 · 07/02/2024 10:28

Maybe a 75 year old man would like a little dignity and doesn’t want people predicting if he’ll make it by quoting stats on the particular cancer?

Imagine it was your grandfather/father. Do you actually want the world media whipped up any more than they already are?

diamondpony80 · 07/02/2024 10:49

The minute people know what type of cancer he has they'll be busy Googling and trying to work out his prognosis. The media would have a field day. Nobody has any right to know and I think he's already been very open about his health situation.

guineverehadgreeneyes · 07/02/2024 10:57

It's bladder cancer.. they found it when he had the camera tube into his postrate.
A surgeon spoke about this morning.

I would check your source carefully before making statements like the one you've posted above.

If a member of the surgical team responsible for King Charles' medical treatment were to release information confirming his diagnosis before any public statement has been issued that would be a gross breach of patient confidentiality.

It would also be a breach of patient confidentiality if a clinician who is not part of King Charles' medical team were to release information about his cancer diagnosis.

If a clinician has spoken to the media about the cancer diagnosis then I expect this was speculation.

So do check your source.

I imagine it was this:

https://www.skynews.com.au/lifestyle/celebrity-life/i-think-its-bladder-cancer-dr-marc-siegel-reveals-theory-about-king-charless-diagnosis-in-piers-morgan-special/news-story/fbc8df10867f52f3ac8fded6689c96a2

'I think it's bladder cancer': Dr Marc Siegel reveals theory about King Charles's diagnosis in Piers Morgan special

"A leading medical doctor who previously evaluated President Trump’s fitness has revealed he believes King Charles has bladder cancer but said the monarch’s health outlook is promising."

which is speculation - not confirmation. I hope you understand the difference.

WithACatLikeTread · 07/02/2024 10:58

I think his focus might be more on his cancer and his recovery at the moment as would anyone in the same situation.
