Recently won a significant gift card. Refused to get excited about it but ordered some stuff that I felt I needed bit randomly because unsure if it’s real or not.
Anyway, one item arrived and I told dd is hacked off with me for not considering anyone else. I really didn’t think because I was (and still am) unsure of it being genuine.
I honestly don’t get why dd is upset. She wasn’t angry just pointing out that I should have thought about her and her siblings. We are both autistic so perhaps we are not clear enough with one another. It’s taken the shine off it a bit.

I don’t quite understand? If you don’t know if it’s genuine how are you using it?

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 04/02/2024 18:29

Could you explain why you don't think it's genuine?

Gilead · 04/02/2024 18:38

I have received a small item, the other items are in the hundreds, it seems a lot to give away.

How did you win the gift card?

KnowledgeableMomma · 04/02/2024 19:12

Agree with other posters, I have many questions. How did you win this gift card? Was your daughter involved (i.e. helping you with trivia, helping fill out forms, etc)? Why are you not sure it's genuine? If you used it to purchase something, surely that showed you it was/wasn't?

Gilead · 04/02/2024 20:38
  1. it was a lucky dip thing on instagram, from what I can gather. I actually can’t remember. It is from a firm I have purchased from before.
  2. Dd had nothing to do with it.
  3. it just feels unreal, I’m not a person who wins things, especially not big things.

I don't understand what you mean.

It was a lucky dip on Instagram, you think? How do you not know how you won?

What makes you think it could be fake? Have they asked you for your card details or something suspicious?

Garlickit · 04/02/2024 20:44

Well, congratulations from me! 💥

Now it seems genuine, let DD pick something, obviously. Quick check first: you didn't have to input your payment details when ordering the prize, did you?

Merryoldgoat · 04/02/2024 20:45

I’m sorry OP but I just don’t understand what’s going on here.

Garlickit · 04/02/2024 20:46

If I ever won anything, @LumpyPumpkin, I wouldn't know where from. I enter various prize draws but don't bother remembering them ... because I never win anything 😏

Sparklesocks · 04/02/2024 20:46

So they sent you the gift card/a code for the gift card to be used on their website, and you’ve used it, but not everything has arrived?

Dartmoorcheffy · 04/02/2024 20:47

Sounds dodgy if only the cheap item jas arrived.

As I understood it, OP won a high-value gift card. So she can order up to that value of items from participating retailer(s). Free money, like 🙂

She only ordered a cheap item, to test it out.

LittleGreenDragons · 04/02/2024 20:50

Why is your daughter telling you off instead of being excited for you. Mothers are allowed to have something just for themselves. How old is she?

pootlin · 04/02/2024 20:51

Your dd is very entitled.

Waitingfordoggo · 04/02/2024 20:52

Depending on her age, I would probably tell your DD that she’s welcome to enter competitions too.

Congratulations on your win!

Well, in that case, congrats! Go enjoy your winnings! You are not required to purchase anything for DD/DC. She can be upset if she'd like but there is no reason behind it. Get yourself something nice!

Gilead · 04/02/2024 23:03

@KnowledgeableMomma
thank you! I’ve had a really rubbish weekend and you’ve cheered me up a bit.

OP posts:
candyfloss100 · 04/02/2024 23:20

You feed your DC, you house your DC and you do everything else for your DC so you definitely deserve this for yourself and your DD is cheeky to suggest otherwise!

determinedtomakethiswork · 04/02/2024 23:37

I think it sounds genuine. Congratulations! How much was it for?

I think your daughter should mind her own business! Why should she benefit you winning a prize?

Gilead · 04/02/2024 23:59

It was for a grand!

OP posts:
TheSlantedOwl · 05/02/2024 00:10

I would probably treat my DC if I won a grand as well as myself tbh.

Gilead · 05/02/2024 00:44

The youngest is 28, I regularly pay for her shopping. I did think about it and then I was a wee bit heck no, this is never me, I’m going to try for a couple of big items that need replacing and that I can’t afford.

OP posts:
OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 05/02/2024 00:48

Do you think it is a scam ?
Is that why the larger value items have not arrived ?
or have you not purchased the larger items yet with this gift card ?
