Recently won a significant gift card. Refused to get excited about it but ordered some stuff that I felt I needed bit randomly because unsure if it’s real or not.
Anyway, one item arrived and I told dd is hacked off with me for not considering anyone else. I really didn’t think because I was (and still am) unsure of it being genuine.
I honestly don’t get why dd is upset. She wasn’t angry just pointing out that I should have thought about her and her siblings. We are both autistic so perhaps we are not clear enough with one another. It’s taken the shine off it a bit.

@OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon
yes, that was my thinking.
I should also say that having emailed the company I have no definitive answer, first they asked for a copy of the email and then apparently their computers were down.

Hmm, being a suspicious soul I would hold off ordering bigger things until you get confirmation. And I thought you were going to say that your dd was a teen, no, autistic or not she needs to realise you aren’t a cash cow.

So it's for 1000. You can purchase items up to that value and you did a test purchase of a small thing? Is that right?

If it's genuine then why is your dd angry? Why wouldn't she at least be nice and ask if you would buy her and her siblings something rather than go all caustic?

In any case if it's genuine and you have things you need, 100% get those. Needs come before wants.

The test run was the smaller item. I assumed that was the proof it is genuine

Your dd is a right entitled madam.

This should ge a sign that you need to stop buying ANYthing for them.

andymary · 05/02/2024 09:57

Why not just tell DD that you're saving it, and only going to be using it to buy birthday/Christmas presents?

Luckydog7 · 05/02/2024 10:52

If you were well off then it would be a kind thing to do to buy your children something special from the prize but a) you are struggling to afford important things for the house, that comes before fun things. b) it's bad manners to ask especially as you haven't even spent it all, how does she know she wasn't getting any! C) she's an adult and shouldn't expect her parent to gift something that she's won regardless of any wealth disparity. The prize is yours!

A brief update: I have a delivery date! Still not getting excited until it’s here!

Well, I have to say, I’m in shock, it all turned up this morning!
I’m chuffed to pieces!

Well that's wonderful !

You didn't at any time give you bank card details or paypal details to receive the gift card did you ?

You haven't had to pay for delivery or p=p separately have you ?
