Where are all the satsumas?

I do not want tangerines, clementines or Johnny-come-lately "easy peelers", whatever the fuck they actually are.

Why are all these inferior bastards available but I can't find a satsuma for love nor money?

AIBU to wish the humble satsuma would make a comeback?

I started a thread on this a few months ago. I want satsuma's not easy peeler!

I moaned on that one as well 😂🤣😆

OrangeMarmaladeOnToast · 04/02/2024 18:47

I'm sure our Sainsbos had them the other week.

Sorry I'm missing the point because...clementines are the best.

runs for cover

Nah satsumas are bottom of the pile

Wait, satsumas are a rarity?! We've been going through bags of them at home, and I've been taking one to work each day - I didn't realise they were hard to come by now!

Are you sure they are actually satsumas? We had a good look in Sainsburys the other day and they didn't have any!

FletchingStraight · 04/02/2024 19:36

Are you my DH? He's been complaining about this for the last few months & has precisely the same views about so called 'easy-peelers'
Luckily Waitrose have them although we aren't able to get there every week

7yo7yo · 09/02/2024 18:19

I could eat about 2 nets of satsumas a day. When I was younger my dad used to buy me cases from his mate the greengrocer.
cant find them anymore. I think we should call trading standards on the easy peel wankers.

A bit like those lying bastard "perfectly ripe" avocados! 🥑

I had one sit in my fridge for an entire month and still it needed a nap in the windowsill for a day to become acceptable.

redalex261 · 09/02/2024 18:25

Love a satsuma (or five) and mineolas. Agree easy peelers are crap. Have been known to scoff an entire net of them in one evening. Although was hospitalised the following day with suspected appendicitis - turned out to be “intestinal spasms” due to excessive fruit consumption…..🤣🤣

Glitterblue · 09/02/2024 18:28

I’ve been wondering this too. I managed to get them once in Morrisons before Christmas but nowhere else, and only that one time in Morrisons. Other kinds just aren’t the same.

Hummusandstuff · 09/02/2024 18:33

Taking notes. Why are orange ish fruits so complicated?
I am a busy woman. If I need something I just go to Amazon and buy the thing with the most good reviews ‘Amazon choice’ or whatever.
I have thrown away so many pippy and sour and dry and shitty orange ish fruits over the years. What should I look for? I shop in Lidl, M&S and Tesco (the last net of things I bought from Tesco were dreadful)

DrearyLane · 19/02/2024 19:11

Did an irregular trip to Waitrose today, and no more satsumas (there were loads aboit 10 days ago but the shelves have definitely been rearranged).

Taken my chances with a net of easy peelers.

Good ones generally smell good ime

Good ones I've had recently have been nardicots, tang gold, from m&s. They are quite sharp though but I like that

Satsumas In Sainsbury’s!

Unopenedpackofmenssocks · 18/04/2024 13:45

This is fascinating! Thank you. But my main question is why? Why on earth do those in continental Europe prefer seeded fruit to unseeded? What possible positive could there be to spitting out pips? Can any non-UK people shed any light on this?

Are satsumas not only in season in September/October/November? Got beautiful ones in Ireland last Halloween

Crispynoodle · 25/06/2024 18:02

I found satsumas! Large juicy ones. Unfortunately I bought them at an independent grocers in NI. The display did say 'in season now' and I remember buying King satsumas in Aldi one summer when I was visiting England. Might be worth a look!

Girlmumx2 · 25/06/2024 18:27

I never exactly know the difference between a satsuma, clementine & tangerine. Like if you put them all in front of me now without a label I’d me so confused 🫤

marshmallowfinder · 25/06/2024 18:52

Waitrose has some.

Jeannie88 · 25/06/2024 19:20

The only place I've been able to find them regularly is sainsburys but aldi also suddenly seem to have them again now as well. Xx

Ok I’ll have to go and by them all so I can sit and smell the differences

Glitterblue · 29/06/2024 03:58

I’ve finally been able to get them in Tesco the last 3 weeks 😊
