Naming convicted killers - Brianna

...Ghey case. In favour of or against as it impacts their rehabilitation? I'm in favour of it - if you've committed a heinous crime you sign away all your rights to be protected in my opinion - what comes your way and being ousted is part of your lot.... I'm not talking about self defence type, rather premeditated and horribly evil crimes. But I think this should be a consistent theme and not just when some judges decide to....at the momentvits not consistent practice.
Aibu to think it's right to name and shame?

Naming is important as other victims may come forward. A better picture of the background can also emerge if there were other crimes that were not reported.

Maybe they could have tried effectively parenting her themselves from the start. Something has already gone badly wrong if you need the police and others to intervene.

I don't know them so I don't know what they did but I do know that some kids have great families and still go wrong. My kids turned out OK and I think that is more credit on them than on me.

Saying transwomen cannot ever become women is not Hatred.
Saying transwomen should not compete in female sport is not Hatred.
Saying transwomen should not be admitted to female prisons and Safe Spaces is not Hatred.

HTH.

All totally irrelevant on this thread. FFS.

Helped in what way? Are you blaming Brianna?

BMW6 · 02/02/2024 17:27

Soupdragon you missed my reference to the post at 16:34? I was replying to the person who claimed MN whips up Hatred for transwomen and implied our collective culpability.

So it is relevant. FFS.

Do you really have no shame? 😠

I suspect if one of your children acted like this, your responses would be very different/
Before you pile on saying 'my child would never act like that', remember, I doubt the parents of those kids thought they had brought up their kids to murder either
Every time a thread such as this, or for example, killers with obvious, diagnosed enduring MH issues, appears, most of MN appear to turn into a braying mob complete with flaming torches and pitchforks, or knitting at the guillotine
Not saying such crimes are not horrendous, but it is rare that there is not some underlying reason for such criminal behaviour

No excuse for this behaviour.

Ever.

It seems they had a vast hit list so poor Brianna was the wrong person, in the wrong place, at the wrong time and it's seem not linked the their gender. She was just a innocent child. Someone's baby. Poor kid. They had a list of a few kids they had a hit list.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 02/02/2024 17:38

They had a list of other kids?? Where did you read that?

From the judge who passed sentencing:
"I find that you were motivated in part by your distaste at Brianna’s status as transgender."

Hii93 · 02/02/2024 17:43

In favour if they can murder someone especially when it's premeditated they should be named.

Also they should stop changing people's names after prison

‘You mean 2 teenagers who plotted to lure their "friend" into a park and murder them in cold blood for kicks?
What do you think they deserve, a pat on the back?’

A custodial sentence and help for mental health. Which they will get. Or do we think that they’re just born ‘evil’ in some way?

Yet again people constantly using mental health as a get out clause for murder etc.

Do you not care about the mental health of a family who had their daughter murdered

I heard about that earlier on in the trial too. They had picked out a number of different children but the girl had befriended Brianna when they were both in the same inclusion group. The girl had given Brianna pills that made her ill in an attempt to kill her.
As I understand it they were finding kids who they felt were vulnerable and they could persuade it meet them.

I'm not so sure about this. They must have known, to some extent, what she was like, but that doesn't mean that they were necessarily responsible for how she was, nor that they could control her. If she has a personality disorder, is that not largely innate? And how do you control teenagers? (Serious question).

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 02/02/2024 17:48

I don't see anyone using 'mental healtth' as a get out clause for murder.....where?

In the quote it says help for mental health.

She also had a list of staff on her hit list when in custody 😡

Psychoticbreak · 02/02/2024 17:54

I wonder how many people sat and actually listened to what the judge had to say?
Scarlett was obsessed with fantasising about murder. She wanted a souvenier from the body like 'flesh or an eyeball'. She wanted to live out her fantasy as someone who murdered someone. Briana was only second on her list, there was a boy she had asked to meet first who said no.
Eddie hated that Briana was transgender. Referred to her as 'it'.
They both had asd or/and adhd.
The judge said, she took everything into consideration over both parties and gave her verdict on that.

Defence tried to use it.

Are their parents in court now that they have been named I wonder?

His father was arrested in November and detained on suspicion of making indecent images and indecent exposure. He's in Manchester Crown Court on 23rd February.

LuvSmallDogs · 02/02/2024 18:00

I don't know how I feel about violent criminals being named. I get that they don't "deserve" anonymity, but I know someone who attempted to take their life over feeling that people thought they were like their sex offender family member.

Exactly. The judge has literally said that hostility towards Brianna's trans identity was a secondary motive in the murder. 🙄
