Vinted - clothes smell!

Netball01 · 31/01/2024 12:39

I ordered a jacket from Vinted - it was £30 so not exactly cheap although to buy new it would have been £60. It was listed as very good condition and only worn a few times.

It turned up today and it really smells - like unwashed with lots of perfume to cover it & the armpits smell sweaty. There’s also some food or something stuck to it.

Honestly so gross, why do people think it’s ok to sell something dirty ?! It’s dry clean only as well.

has anyone managed to get a refund through Vinted for similar issues ?

Vinted will ask you to return at your own costs.

some people on Vinted are disgusting

Dinoland · 31/01/2024 12:46

At the very least select 'something's wrong' in the app and give the seller a bad rating. No harm in asking for your money back but I'm not sure what the process is for that.

Poppyseed14 · 31/01/2024 13:27

As a pp said they will ask you to return at your own cost but for a few pounds you will get back all of your original costs so it's worth doing on a £30 item.

Poppysmom22 · 31/01/2024 13:44

That’s bad I would leave a bad review for that. Almost as bad is the cloying suffocating overdose of lenor scent beads or whatever they are. I bought a pair of jeans so far I’ve washed them twice and they still stink of sodding crappy chemical scent

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 31/01/2024 13:47

I'll take your smelly jacket and raise it by a pocket full of used face masks 😷 🤢

Whatafustercluck · 31/01/2024 14:13

I'm due a refund for some joggers for ds. Said good condition but arrived with a hole in one of the legs, baggy knees (so unwashed) and a size smaller than described. Seller said she'd never sell something in that condition (I took photos) and initially disputed what I was saying until I provided photos. Reluctantly agreed to issue refund. They cost £7.60 and I spent £4 sending them back, so not really worth it. For a £30 coat I'd definitely get my money back though. My refund is being processed, and the seller had loads of 5 star reviews so not sure that happened in this instance.

Rosinda · 31/01/2024 14:15

What material? Some dry clean only can go in the machine on hand wash.

Stain remover spray on the armpits and other smelly areas.

Yes, it's disgusting that people do this.

Rosinda · 31/01/2024 14:16

Though thinking about it, they're a cheeky fucker so best off returning unless your heart is set on it.

sunshinesupermum · 31/01/2024 14:21

Return and request refund even if it does mean you having to pay postage. I've had a few items smell of Lenor or whatever other stuff has been used in the wash but my real bugbear is things with a size label that hasn't been described as having massively shrunk in the wash by the seller! Sadly didn't try said items on as soon as I received them and couldn't sell on as I've no idea who they will fit!

coleslaweleanor · 31/01/2024 14:36

I've had a couple of things smell really musty/mouldy but managed to get rid of the smell by putting in a bin bag with bicarb of soda for 24 hours then washing.

It annoys me the having to pay return postage for items wrongly listed, or blatantly not saleable. I had a pair of jeans where one leg was an inch shorter than the other!!

MyopicBunny · 31/01/2024 14:37

Eww sorry to hear this. What is their feedback score like?

Netball01 · 31/01/2024 14:51

They’ve got 5* reviews for all their other clothes but haven’t sold much.

im definitely going to request a refund - just noticed the lining round the neck is stained too!!

RobertaFirmino · 31/01/2024 14:58

I can't get worked up about detergent smells - they indicate the item has been washed.

As for this jacket, definitely return. Can't stand grotty buggers like this, gives us decent sellers a bad name.

Netball01 · 31/01/2024 14:59

@RobertaFirmino agree, I’d rather know it’s nice & clean !

It’s not detergent smell it’s far stronger it’s lasted through two wash dry cycles so far and still smells

Makeitmakesensetoday · 31/01/2024 15:16

What's it made out of? Just wash it and it'll be fine. Bit grotty though, I'd still give a negative review.

You can't.
If you return the item to seller the transaction is nulled and feedback cannot be left for either party. The only way to leave bad feedback is to keep the item.
Big flaw in Vinted's platform but there you go.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 31/01/2024 15:29

I would definitely return even paying postage costs.
I don't think you can then leave negative back but you just don't leave any feedback
It's disgusting

NotARealWookiie · 31/01/2024 16:06

I don’t mind detergent smells but I hate when they smell of incense and musty cupboards

Those blue little Lenor balls are the most cloying scent ever - and I usually love the smell of detergent, especially traditional Lenor fabric conditioner.
Awful. Gave me a headache when I used them.

OhBabyNoBaby · 31/01/2024 16:35

I bought a coat from there once too and one of the pockets was filled with fag butts 🤢

Rattenbury · 31/01/2024 16:37

Definitely request a refund - I got a refund on a jacket I bought which smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke

Advice400 · 31/01/2024 16:53

I bought one thing from a relatively new vinted seller. It smelt a bit although not as bad as reports on here.

I gave a poor report but looking now its clear she's not selling her own stuff, despite putting "never worn" or "worn once" and the monkey icon ..... because the sizes she sells go from 8 to 22!

I'll not use Vinted ever again.

peakygold · 31/01/2024 17:37

It wouldn't happen on ebay 😉
