Vinted - clothes smell!

I ordered a jacket from Vinted - it was £30 so not exactly cheap although to buy new it would have been £60. It was listed as very good condition and only worn a few times.

It turned up today and it really smells - like unwashed with lots of perfume to cover it & the armpits smell sweaty. There’s also some food or something stuck to it.

Honestly so gross, why do people think it’s ok to sell something dirty ?! It’s dry clean only as well.

has anyone managed to get a refund through Vinted for similar issues ?

I bought one thing from a relatively new vinted seller. It smelt a bit although not as bad as reports on here.

I gave a poor report but looking now its clear she's not selling her own stuff, despite putting "never worn" or "worn once" and the monkey icon ..... because the sizes she sells go from 8 to 22!

I'll not use Vinted ever again.

What's the monkey icon mean @Advice400 ?

Advice400 · 31/01/2024 18:05

It's the image of a monkey covering its eyes. To illustrate "what a plonker I am". She uses it after saying she bought and hasn't worn, or bought and wore once.

But it's very clear now she's sourcing from elsewhere and reselling. I don't have a problem with that at all.....just don't lie about it. New, with tags or nearly new condition will do.

In the old days of Ebay banned sellers would move to Ebid. It now seems they have moved to Vinted.

With regard to detergent boosters and other toxic smells, I soak stuff in a strong solution of vinegar for a good few days, then wash with just water. Then wash with a scent free detergent. It reduces it a fair bit. Then I repeat, and leave it outdoors for a couple of weeks in fresh air and rain. Usually wash it again for good measure.

If it's one of those where it smells through the packaging I usually return it after a quick look to check what it is. This is Ebay though as I really don't like Vinted.

I’ve submitted a ‘something’s wrong’ and asked for my money back so fingers crossed !

That's a shame. I've got a fair few bits from Vinted and they always arrive smelling lovely.. I've been tempted several times to message the seller and ask what washing powder they use.

You will get it, but unfortunately it will be down to you to pay the return postage. On a £30 item it's worth it but many sellers rely on people not being bothered to pay to send things back.
