To think my cat has cracked the work life balance totally

Blackcatfancier · 29/01/2024 19:07

So yesterday Sunday....

My 14 year old boy cat woke me up at 7am for breakfast ....after which he had a slow patrol around the garden inspecting his territory.

Back in about 8am for a lot of cuddles and a brush which he loves

Hopped on to a heated faux fur throw on bed till 1pm

Woke up at 1pm when roast chicken for Sunday lunch was out the oven

Squealed loudly until he got breast , leg and some skin

Ate it by dragging from kitchen to rug in dining area

After that ignored all attempts by visitors for lunch trying to say hello and headed back to heated throw where he remained till 6pm when time for dinner and lik e lix and dreamies

After dinner sat on lap for petting till he decided it was bed time

Love him dearly but he has life sussed!

Picture tax if I can upload

You are being unreasonable as clearly being a cat is a highly specialised and professional role and it almost sounds that you are begrudging him his few pleasures in life..,..
In this instance I think you need to try harder, maybe treats could be placed closer to his heated throw so he doesn't wear his cutey wootey pawsie-wawsies out. The poor baby tiger.

Beamur · 29/01/2024 19:11

Sounds very similar to mine! Wake up, food, toilet, quick garden patrol. First nap. Window time. Second nap. Lunch. Third nap. Activity! More food, play, fuss, dinner. Lap snoozes. Zoomies. Bedtime.

PaminaMozart · 29/01/2024 19:12

How is it that cats, as a species, have collectively sussed out how to manipulate their humans so that they acquiesce to each and every one of their needs and desires? Whilst ensuring that we love them dearly and would do ANYTHING to keep them happy and contented?

frankie001 · 29/01/2024 19:13

We let our kitten out for the first time yesterday. He loves it, so much so that he now stands by the back door screaming to be let out. I’d settle for a heated throw myself!

CandidClarisse · 29/01/2024 19:14

Have you thought about asking him to do more around the house lol. 😂

But no, he's nailed it hasn't he! Must be bliss

Yes that completely!

If a dog howled at lunchtime for roast chicken he would probably be shut out of the room

A cat we just rush to carve some nice bits for him !!!!

Makes me smile.!

Yep. Cats are truly the dominant species. My boys have lifestyles to make a pharaoh blush.

I love the thought !

He always makes me smile whatever he does , so I think he is probably let off household duties for now !

He did join me in cold conservatory when I was wfh during lock down , although because he was in there we bought a plug in radiator and a cushion for him. When it was me alone I was told to wear a few layers !

Yeah agreed they have it sussed.

Mine have trained me to not hoover the room if they’re asleep or use a hair dryer in a different room and not to turn the big light on if they’re asleep. Don’t want to hurt their little eyes or scare them.

I also feed them first before my morning coffee. I wouldn’t dream of making them wait 🤣

And I don’t dare complain when they scratch my carpet or leave dead/alive bodies on it.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 29/01/2024 19:28

From somewhere on the internet. I thought this summed it up nicely.

Kitten (noun): A small homicidal muffin on legs; affects human sensibilities to the point of endowing the most wanton and ruthless acts of destruction with near-mythical overtones of cuteness. Not recommended for beginners. Get at least two.

EarringsandLipstick · 29/01/2024 19:29

You gave a cat a leg, breast & skin of your lovely roast 😳 was that not for the humans?

I'm all for feline love but that seems v generous!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 29/01/2024 19:30

Our dcat frequently sits up on dh's belly knee until she's cosy, then decides she wants his seat. She cries at him, and looks longingly at his side, occasionally pawing at him.

And he GIVES IN and gives her his seat 90% of the time she does this, neatly reinforcing that this is what should happen.

Then he curses her. (Impotently!)

He had a small bit of everything! He is not that big and had a nice breakfast so was quite happy with that !

Mine is old now, 15, and she has a good work life balance too:-
6am-7am choir and gymnastics (aka yowl til we wake, waking over our heads in the bed)
7am-8am mealtime. With vocal reminders to refill the bowl when it's below 75% capacity as she doesn't want to bend that far.
8am-2pm nap time in the radiator hammock
2pm-3.30pm security detail (aka walk round yowling into each room to check we are still as expected for that time of day)
3.30pm-4.30pm lap checks. Quick tester naps on everyone laps.
4.30pm-5.30pm mealtime again
5.30pm-8pm nap time again in the hammock
8pm-8.30pm Roomba time, prowling under the dinner table for dropped food
8.30pm-morning back to the hammock

Yeah this is what I find sometimes weird. I would completely do the same, but having started walking my elderly neighbours dog recently I am bemused at how differently dogs are trained!

Then I listened to the Ricky Gervaise skit about spoiling a cat and I'm like yes that !

Can there be any better life than that of a pampered cat?

Dogs owners train their pet

Cat owners are trained by their pet

WhatWhereWho · 29/01/2024 19:43

I think that you forgot to mention he also has to keep you guys in line, though that training would have obviously been done early on. Beautiful cat.

Mine enjoys neighbourhood watch
He alternates this with napping and eating and then sleeps under the duvet wedged against me

He's gorgeous, and definitely has you well under control. Our black cat has spent much of today being fussed by us and biting my knee when she felt she was being ignored.

Is he ear tipped?
