To think my cat has cracked the work life balance totally

Blackcatfancier · 29/01/2024 19:07

So yesterday Sunday....

My 14 year old boy cat woke me up at 7am for breakfast ....after which he had a slow patrol around the garden inspecting his territory.

Back in about 8am for a lot of cuddles and a brush which he loves

Hopped on to a heated faux fur throw on bed till 1pm

Woke up at 1pm when roast chicken for Sunday lunch was out the oven

Squealed loudly until he got breast , leg and some skin

Ate it by dragging from kitchen to rug in dining area

After that ignored all attempts by visitors for lunch trying to say hello and headed back to heated throw where he remained till 6pm when time for dinner and lik e lix and dreamies

After dinner sat on lap for petting till he decided it was bed time

Love him dearly but he has life sussed!

Picture tax if I can upload

Dogs owners train their pet

Cat owners are trained by their pet

I wouldn't be so sure of that.

My dogs have me pretty well trained 🙄

Paws2024 you have it wrong re putting the heating on for the cat when you wfh. WE had the heating on 24/7 for our Burmese. On the thermostat yes, but on 24 hours. Well, they did have very fine coats. And we were their slaves.......

He sleeps under the duvet all night, no idea how he doesn't melt
Dad "it's unhygienic"
Me "you're just jealous you don't have a 6kg fluffy hot water bottle"

Noseyoldcow · 29/01/2024 21:52

I went through menopause with aforesaid 3 Burmese sharing my side of the bed, one of them under the covers when she chose, the others alongside or on me. 2.5 tog quilt all year round. Put the menopausal night sweats down to snuggly cats. Or was it? I'll never know. Sadly all now departed, and these days tog rating on my quilt has gone up a lot!

Oh I love his little fangs! What a cutie! Is he lying on your work@Blackcatfancier ?

No! He was on a mini electric heat pad next to lap top...allowed him to supervise and nap at the same time.! He likes to be close by !

One of mine hasn’t cracked the balance bit as he slept so hard today he fell off DH’s desk. I checked that the poor precious baby was okay (he’s 14.5 and diabetic) then laughed a lot.

The other one is put out because the duvet isn’t as soft and poofy as it was a few days ago. This is because SOMEONE threw up on it so the 4.5 tog went in the wash and hasn’t gone back on. 9 tog not soft enough by itself apparently.

They’re absolute liabilities but I’m away with work right now and could just do with being yelled at and given a little clawy massage.

From somewhere on the internet. I thought this summed it up nicely.

Kitten (noun): A small homicidal muffin on legs; affects human sensibilities to the point of endowing the most wanton and ruthless acts of destruction with near-mythical overtones of cuteness. Not recommended for beginners. Get at least two.

We had an older cat that we'd had from the age of 2 and thought we were ready for a kitten, so we got one that was a couple weeks after she was ready to leave her mother from a friend of ours.
We were wrong, we weren't 100% ready 😂

I adore her, she's lovely, but my god, she was and still is a menace to our poor cups!
She has broken 4 or 5 cups since we got her in 2021. She's currently perched on the top of the living room door, which became her spot the moment she realised she could jump that high. She's starting to calm down now at 2.5 years old, but we will always keep cups out of her way.

ghostyslovesheets · 29/01/2024 22:13

awww he's lovely

I have 6 - on any night I have 3-4 on my bed with no room for my feet and one on the chair - one downstairs

They like to sleep, wake me up any time from 5am for food, vomit at 3am, bring live things in via the bedroom window, fight with next doors cat and randomly want head bumps through the night.

I am just their humble servant - I know my place

Gettingbysomehow · 29/01/2024 22:18

Cats really do take the piss 😂

This is Eve relaxing. She is slim and very long.

@catherinewales we let him out in the back garden, supervised. Didn’t feed him that morning so he came in for food. He has 2 older cat brothers who are keeping an eye on him. He has worked out the cat flap already, our older boys took 3 weeks!

Here is tonight, exhausted by “the outside”!

it’s bloody hard to put laundry away, there’s always a cat asleep on it!

Luckingfovely · 29/01/2024 22:35

Yesterday, Princess Cat, Queen of the House, excelled herself by startling at some unheard terror during the cooking of the Sunday Roast.

Landed on the kitchen island, hit the roof (literally), rocketed to the kitchen sides covered in cooking paraphernalia and then did parkour around three walls, crowning it by landing in the hot bread sauce. The devastation in 12 seconds was very impressive.

ghostyslovesheets · 29/01/2024 22:37

This is my long boy trying to fit in the best bed in the house!

He did join me in cold conservatory when I was wfh during lock down , although because he was in there we bought a plug in radiator and a cushion for him. When it was me alone I was told to wear a few layers !

Only as it should be, OP Wink

I realised things had gone far enough with one of mine when not only did I stumble around the bedroom in the dark because she was asleep, but bought her her own little pillow for on MY bed

Realised, that is, and went right on doing it Blush

How is it that cats, as a species, have collectively sussed out how to manipulate their humans so that they acquiesce to each and every one of their needs and desires? Whilst ensuring that we love them dearly and would do ANYTHING to keep them happy and contented?

Exactly! Meanwhile humanity collectively worries about being controlled by some faceless 'They' - but cats are already controlling us! 😂

My boy's schedule:

5:30 a.m. - hears me stir and starts wailing at the kitchen door.
6:00 a.m. - breakfast
6:05 a.m. - heads out for cat business. This could mean a mouse hunt, or just nosing around the neighbourhood. I don't ask questions. I may or may not receive a 'gift'.
9:00 a.m. - comes in to wail at me hopefully for treats. I try not to cave. Then goes on his daily 'rounds'.
11:00 a.m. - comes in to wail again that I am so cruel and he is clearly starving! I tell him he has another hour to wait so he rushes upstairs to 'Daddy' and manages to convince him to give treats.
12:00 p.m.- dried food lunch
12:05 p.m. - Nap time in the tiniest ever cardboard box. Practises looking cute.
5:00 p.m. - wakes up and starts demanding dinner. I try to distract with a laser game.
6:00 p.m. - great excitement for chicken dinner.Tries to convince me afterwards that he never had it and I have forgotten to feed him.
6:04 p.m. - goes out to find neighbourhood male feline to have a rumble with. I am sure they exchange tips for managing their slaves.
8:30 p.m. - returns for Zoomies session.
9:30 p.m. - is tucked into bed with a nice treat, lights out! I feel so blessed to have a kitty because he's so cute. Until 5:30 a.m. when he starts wailing again...

TheBalletCats · 29/01/2024 23:19

The Ballet Cats (who will be 12 in April) chose to be indoor cats so spend most of the day snuggled up with me; usually, atm, enjoying The Magical Blanket of Warms (vastly superior to their self-heating bed, apparently). They will squeak suggestively about breakfast if I don’t get up after taking my morning medication; & will ask about their tea any time I get up after my 1800 medication. They pootle off to observe the wildlife in the back garden from the French windows/people-watch from the sitting room windowsills/nap in one of their other beds/play hide & squeak/do zoomies on the sort of non-schedule that makes me think they’re using countersight 🤔

Naturally they get ✨fancy✨ food - but while they love their Lily’s kitchen & other grain-free real meat/fish foods, they seem to think “you’re obligate carnivores” is something I’ve made up to keep the delicious vegan food to myself.

They do not really get treats, so they think malt paste & toothpaste are treats. Actual dental crunchies/anti-hairball treats are as manna from heaven. They get treats on their birthdays & at Christmas & Easter though (they sit & watch Mass with me often enough…) & in the summer I freeze Churu treats for them to eat like ice lollies.

(Please note I am not randomly unsuitably underdressed in attached photo: I’d just been rescanning the sensor for my CGM so had shoved my sleeve right out of the way 😁)

My female twins, 9mth huge kittens:
4-5am wake me by walking all over me until I get up to feed them, first breakfast of Applaws dry food then I can go back to bed whilst they retreat to their luxury climbing tree with beds and hammocks.
7am I'm up and they're wining for food again so wet food now. The only one brand they'll eat.
Then they're wailing to have the kitchen tap on, sink has to be empty at all times so any washing up has to be done immediately to enable them to drink running water.

8am I'm showering but they have to be audience and have the bathroom tap running again.
830- 930 they will play with the ridiculous amount if toys they have.
Then they sleep a while.
They're indoor cats atm.
Rest of the morning they're having snuggles on my lap whilst I work and get lost out out if they're ignored, head butting my arms until they're stroked.
12 - lunch wet food and treat food - chicken, salmon, tuna
They will then go to my bed for a sleep.
Mid afternoon I take them out for a walk on their harness/leads (I'm in a flat currently but have lovely communal gardens) - I am the crazy cat woman who climbs up walls so they can explore the wooded areas!

More sleep.
Cat TV on whilst I work.
5pm they're under my feet whilst I cook. I'm worried I will tread on them one day.
All evening snuggles on the sofa, play with me constantly tossing toys, setting up treat runs for them.
It's a hard life but they are adorable bosses!

Cat Tv!

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 30/01/2024 05:22

My 8-month-old foster kittens love cat TV! Especially squirrels.

mazylou · 30/01/2024 08:15

These lads have it made. They are indolent, unless zoomies are required, when they have broken lamps, coasters, they displace the rugs constantly, and jump up on the counters. They have persuaded the Senior Cat that they're terrified of washing themselves (they aren't), so he washes them constantly. And yes, that is an Aga they are snuggled up to.

TheBalletCats · 30/01/2024 14:30

Top catting there @mazylou - particularly impressive as those are clearly wee storm clouds made, um, fur.

Am attaching photos of mine, when younger, enjoying their toothpaste. Who wouldn’t want a life where even attending to your oral hygiene is an exciting treat?

I always say to DH that I want to come back as a cat. But I'd have to be one who likes water so my human slave can wash me. I'm not prepared to lick my own butt clean!

mazylou · 30/01/2024 15:54

This is where the Senior Cat comes into his own: he washes their bums. The dope.
