To think my cat has cracked the work life balance totally

So yesterday Sunday....

My 14 year old boy cat woke me up at 7am for breakfast ....after which he had a slow patrol around the garden inspecting his territory.

Back in about 8am for a lot of cuddles and a brush which he loves

Hopped on to a heated faux fur throw on bed till 1pm

Woke up at 1pm when roast chicken for Sunday lunch was out the oven

Squealed loudly until he got breast , leg and some skin

Ate it by dragging from kitchen to rug in dining area

After that ignored all attempts by visitors for lunch trying to say hello and headed back to heated throw where he remained till 6pm when time for dinner and lik e lix and dreamies

After dinner sat on lap for petting till he decided it was bed time

Love him dearly but he has life sussed!

Picture tax if I can upload

After Sunday when I thought about it, I thought what a nice day yes I want to be my cat too but I am not as cute as him !!!

Yes I do wonder what would happen if I snuggled on a pillow on the floor. Would anyone stroke me or throw chocolate at me?

You've forgotten all the supervisory activities he has to undertake. Very taxing.

WandaWonder · 29/01/2024 20:52

I hope for your sake you read carefully the performance review to see if you could benefit from any suggested changes made, it is hard being all cat

I'm told

I am hoping reincarnation is a thing, cats must be the existence closest to nirvana. Mine do breakfast, morning nap, lunch and a prowl round, afternoon nap, dinner, late night hunting then nap til breakfast.

They are banished to the kitchen at night due to bringing midnight snacks (sometimes still alive) to our bedroom once to often. But it’s still an amazing existence.

I genuinely used to think dogs must be smarter because of how clever they can be when trained (service dogs etc) whereas cats clearly cannot be trained in the same way. It was only when I saw a clip of some cats that had been trained to do tricks on BGT (or some similar show) that I realised that no, of course cats are smarter because in fact they can be trained and know exactly what we want them to do but just ignore us completely. So yes, they are the superior species.

Don't feel too bad for him! We bought him a plug in heat mat for when he didn't want to sit next to his radiator! And yes I was still told to wear layers if I was cold in the conservatory during lockdown and wfh!!

We let our kitten out for the first time yesterday. He loves it, so much so that he now stands by the back door screaming to be let out. I’d settle for a heated throw myself!

Did your kitten go far or on a lead? My kitten is 5 months, he's been done and is chipped. Im too nervous to let him out yet as I have a bigger cat who will take him on adventures. He's not really showing signs of wanting to go out yet which I'm glad as I'd rather keen him in till the weather is better xx

LiarLiarKnickersAblaze · 29/01/2024 21:05

Ps this thread made me order a radiator hammock. Who knew they existed!

For my cat, not myself.

I put the central heating on today for the cat when I was wfh.

I wasn’t too cold really but I thought he looked a bit chilly 😜

WandaWonder · 29/01/2024 21:07

Another popular complaint I am aware of and I trying to wonder why on earth cat staff do this is put items in ridiculous places like a fridge and tv where cats want to sit and even worse is when cats give permission for working from home their staff think they have the right to leave laptops where cats have decided to stretch out

Things needs to change! Staff needs to inform cats on where they intend to put things but also be fully aware cats have the right to change their mind whenever they see fit

You are being unreasonable as clearly being a cat is a highly specialised and professional role and it almost sounds that you are begrudging him his few pleasures in life..,..
In this instance I think you need to try harder, maybe treats could be placed closer to his heated throw so he doesn't wear his cutey wootey pawsie-wawsies out. The poor baby tiger.

Absolutely this! 🤣🤣

My girl cat, now sadly departed, ruled me during the day as cats do. But at night she demanded to sleep with me. During the summer she slept in my arms up on or near the pillow. And when it got cold, she slept under the covers in the lap my legs and torso made when I lay sideways. And she would decide when I had to turn to the other side, by gently batting my face until I turned over, when she would snuggle back into my arms/lap to suit. Not allowed to sleep on my back. Of course she dictated breakfast time, but if anyone got up before me, so they were breakfast chef, she'd make sure they did as they were told by nipping their ankles. Dictator cat!

You gave a cat a leg, breast & skin of your lovely roast 😳 was that not for the humans?

I'm all for feline love but that seems v generous!

It’s very mean. He should have been given the whole Chicken.

WrigglyDonCat · 29/01/2024 21:15

Amateur hour, only having one lazy relaxing cat after a hard day's work in the photo. This is the proper way to do it. Each precious cat arse is resting on effectively 36 tog of duvet (a total of 18 tog doubled over) + a double thickness of fluffy blanket.

This arrangement is so comfortable that sometimes the girl on the left can't be bothered to come and eat. I refuse to feed her on the bed, so she gets carried down to the kitchen to get her food.

Edit: Yes I realise that refusing to feed on the bed is a criminal offence under section 3.1 of the 'Being a slave to your cat' act of 1876. I expect the RSPCA, armed police and the SAS to kick my door in imminently

Really enjoying this thread and glad to see I am not the only one ruled by my cat. My old cat is very pleased at my new year exercise plan as it involves me getting up at 5.30am which is the perfect time for a cat to have breakfast. It also means I go to bed early so he has someone to sleep on. He is very good at making sure I get up and go to bed at the right time.

Toptotoe · 29/01/2024 21:26

YABU! Don’t you realise how hard it is to be so cat like? Yes it looks easy but there is a lot of thought and energy that goes into making it all look so effortless.

I do that Blush

My dad, who was visiting and isn't a cat person
"It's a CAT. It's got a fur coat, honestly this is why I'm not a cat person. Also where is my little fluffy munchkin, I bet you've not given him any ham today" Hmm

For not a cat person he sure spends a lot of time going "where is my bestest cat"

Noseyoldcow · 29/01/2024 21:38

My girl cat was Burmese. And they say you should not have a solo Burmese kitten or cat if you work, they need company. Since I worked from home, I foolishly assumed that my company would suffice. Yeah, well it did, so long as I was prepared to chuck stuff for her to play fetch/gently punch her up/play hide and seek etc. Which is a bit hard to do if you're trying to work....so I went out out for another Burmese kitten to keep her company. Couldn't decide between two brothers on offer. You see where this is going to....yes, of course whole family ended up slaves ruled by 3 Burmese. But she was always Queen Bee and ruled the lot of us. Except when one of the boys decided otherwise......but we humans were always at the bottom of the pecking order!
