To be irritated at the many news reports on Rishi Sunak’s healthy lifestyle?

Just to caveat, this is light hearted - but also something that I’ve found annoying.

In the news today, there was an article about the 36-hour fasts that Rishi Sunak does every week, and how disciplined and determined this makes him.

Since he’s become PM, we’ve also had other reports about other lifestyle habits he swears by - Peloton workouts, alcohol abstinence (also though perhaps this is also a religious practice) and even what he eats for breakfast.

I don’t think it’s particularly interesting or important - or unusual - that someone does intermittent fasting or Peloton workouts. And I don’t think we’ve ever had so much media coverage of a PM’s health habits.

And Rishi Sunak’s government’s decisions and policies led to suffering and distress for so many people. He can choose whether or not to fast every time he does it, but lots of people in the country he leads have no choice - they have to ‘fast’ because crazy living costs force them to go without food.

AIBU? (I realise I don’t actually have to read the media coverage - but I read it anyway).

It’s bullshit. Like the latest mandate that Tory MPs need to go clean shaven to appeal to voters.

Deckchairs. Titanic.

Poudretteite · 28/01/2024 21:45

He does 36-hour fasts every week? I'm just surprised - that's a lot of food to miss every week.

winewolfhowls · 28/01/2024 21:46

Bit torn on this one really.

At least he's not a hypocrite, and actually living the healthy advice advocated by his government. I may be old fashioned but I do think leaders should be role models and not alleged criminals like Trump.

On the other hand I have never and would never vote Tory because they are a bag of dick weasels.

Alcyoneus · 28/01/2024 21:50

Tory spin machine is trying to make him look all disciplined and effective. Since the guy doesn’t have an ounce if statesmanship. He was shit chancellor and an even worse PM. The Tories will be out of power for at least a decade after the next GE. Because they chose shit leader after shit leader after shot leader. And became pseudo socialist. And the best they can come up with is to put lipstick on a pig in this way. Pathetic.

Lesina · 28/01/2024 21:51

He is a terrible Prime Minster and his dietary habits have no bearing on that.

Kendodd · 28/01/2024 21:54

Message to poor people!
You're just greedy wanting food every day. You should be fasting like the PM when you can't afford food.

Haydenn · 28/01/2024 21:56

Well he is as boring as f*ck so I don’t think they have much else to talk about

That’s exactly what they’re trying to do, make him look disciplined, with a healthy lifestyle, therefore an intelligent, sharp, effective person. A kind of anti-Boris. They like to believe that we’re more interested in that than in the policies they’re enacting.

Itrymybestyesido · 28/01/2024 22:05

He's a massively out of touch person. Just doesn't have a clue about the real world as has never tricky lived in it. At all.

Likes to spin stuff that he thinks will impress the voter buts it's usually very tone deaf.

Itrymybestyesido · 28/01/2024 22:07

*truely not tricky

I wonder if it’s say 7pm on Friday to 7am on Sunday. So 36 hours but only actually missing one day’s food.

AutumnCrow · 28/01/2024 22:12

Does he bath in 3 inches of like warm water in one of his many mansions?

There’s a bloody war on you know.

xsquared · 28/01/2024 22:12

He runs 10K races too! Running club mates spotted him at Northallerton 10K.

No, you didn't need to know that, but you do seem to know a lot about his healthy lifestyle for someone who is supposedly not interested.

Yes I do happen to know a lot about his health from what I read in the papers, because I like following the news and am interested in politics and generally quite nosey tbh.

I think it’s okay to read an article about something and disagree with it. I find it a bit much that the media and his aides constantly tell us how virtuous he is with his health habits whilst the country he runs is really struggling.

It seems very badly judged that the papers are writing about him choosing to fast for 36 hours when lots of people in this country have no choice in that matter, and have to go without food.

"I don't think we've had so much media coverage of a PM's health habits" .....well, I recall a couple of fairly recent articles about Boris liking to party (and shag around) - so maybe it isn't so much that others haven't had the coverage as they haven't actually done enough healthy stuff for coverage of their free time to look like a health advert?

You took the words right out of my mouth 🤣🤣 As I was writing the OP, I was thinking exactly that - that pre-Rishi Sunak, we were more used to reading about Boris’s ‘late-night cheese and chorizo binges’ and half-hearted jogs around the park/rugby-tackling tiny schoolkids than any proper attempts to live a healthy lifestyle.

It is all just electioneering. We've been in an election campaign since Sunak took over.

And yes, it is all utter bullshit. Every single thing that any Tory says is just to try and hoodwink people into voting for them.

Laiste · 28/01/2024 22:39

Glad he has time to run marathons, piss about on his peloton and fret about his fasting 🙄

Would be nice to hear that he just works hard really, considering he's PM.

TitusMoan · 28/01/2024 22:51

Doesn’t eat on Mondays apparently. Why the Tory spin machine thinks this is going to impress any voter is beyond me. It just makes him sound like a nut job. Very rich man doesn’t eat on Mondays. Big deal.

neonjumper · 28/01/2024 22:55

I doubt very much he is fasting with complete abstinence from all food and water for 36 hours .

Eating is permitted during fasting . It is very common to sit and eat one full vegetarian meal during the fast .

Yep. I work 6 days a week- I’d collapse if I tried to fast for 36 hours.

Still struggling with the price hikes in everything atm too.

monkeysonthemoon · 28/01/2024 22:56

Does this fast occur over the course of the week when he's asleep, by any chance?
