Make me feel better about my new kitchen...

Yes I've posted before but I've lost my old log in details and can't find the thread.

Had a new kitchen fitted. Look wise I like it, more space too. But the gloss. Oh my god, the gloss. Why did I get it? DH can't understand there are handles for a reason and I spent most of my life getting rid of fingerprints.

Anyone own gloss and grew to like it?

Does it even look nice? Or does it look dated? There's no way DH will let me change it when we spent upwards of 6k a few months ago on it.

Any advice or even positive things to say about the new kitchen? This is before and after.

Sorry i don't like it personally but wouldn't think anything of it if I was visiting your house.

sunglassesonthetable · 26/01/2024 19:52

I am being honest. I can't make her feel better about her kitchen. 🤦‍♀️

So, you know, why did you even post? You probably made her feel a lot worse.

Good job👍🏻

My fitter told me matt was worse for fingerprints. He explained why but I cant remember. Your kitchen looks like my new one. I don't have much of a problem but I have long handles.

ChiefEverythingOfficer · 27/01/2024 07:01

Well here is one to blow your mind OP. We had a kitchen with combo Matt/gloss doors.

The matt doors held marks much worse than the gloss.

Orangeoranges42 · 27/01/2024 07:22

It’s a lovely kitchen

Nicole1111 · 27/01/2024 07:25

Is this some weird ad since this repeatedly gets posted or does the op have psychological problems that are manifesting as an obsession with her kitchen?

YourGoatAteMyFishfinger · 27/01/2024 07:33

@ThatsMintThat can I just ask, where did you get a kitchen that was only £6k? I need a new one but have limited £.
I sympathise re the gloss. We mistakenly got gloss worktops in our last house and it was a nightmare-never again!

Ilovemyshed · 27/01/2024 07:38

Just use some window spray on a microfibre cloth.

Calmdown14 · 27/01/2024 07:40

Have you experimented with the lighting? Perhaps the upwards light is emphasised the marks.

I don't notice marks on mine but I have a husband always covered in oil residue so handles were a must

RoseGoldEagle · 27/01/2024 07:41

Do YOU think it looks nice? I don’t like gloss, my parents have just gone for high gloss in their kitchen and they love it- so my opinion doesn’t matter! If 1000 people said it was gorgeous, would you feel better?

QAnoun · 27/01/2024 08:06

What’s the point of the lights on the kick board? Don’t they just highlight any crumbs and dust on the floor?

Kitkat2065 · 27/01/2024 08:12

My dad got white high gloss, wiping off fingerprints and watermarks is now his life ... He's a bit OCD and has regrets over his wifes choices 😂

WineMakesTheWorldGoAround · 27/01/2024 08:15

Why would it be a be a stealth boast? My kitchen was 10k and we got it for half price (I didn't pay....long story!)
I think 6k is at the lower end of what you would pay for a new kitchen (not to diminish OP's achievement) but not something you would come on mn of all places to boast about.
@ThatsMintThat is it possible that you have just got a simple case of buyers regret, very common when people spend a lot of money on big purchases? Always feeling that nagging doubt the money could have been better spent on something different? If you are doing other bits to your house start focusing on those and just live with the kitchen, let it fade into the background of your thoughts! Or possibly get a hobby so you have less time to stand looking for fingerprints....you need to distract yourself.

BreatheAndFocus · 27/01/2024 08:19

It’s fine. Nice and neutral. I had a gloss one and yes,it did show fingerprints but only if you looked and in certain lights at certain angles. I stopped noticing. Just give the cupboards a rub every week or two and forget it. Nobody else will notice.

Is it possible that the LED lights are literally shining a light on fingerprints? If you switch the lights off, does it make it harder to see the prints?

PinkPanther50 · 27/01/2024 08:47

I have both white and black gloss doors in my kitchen in my kitchen and barely notice the fingerprints. I rarely use a cleaner on them, usually wipe over with just a cloth with soapy water. It might be that some cleaners leave a fine residue and that’s what picks up the fingerprints more.

RoseberryT · 27/01/2024 08:49

It’s a lovely kitchen, looks gorgeous. Very modern and brand spanking new. I had a gloss creamy coloured kitchen that came with the house and no issues at all with finger marks. Just a quick wipe down and they were gone. Swapped to dark Matt last year and oh my word, I’ve never known anything like it. Finger marks, dog nose marks….. and the usual wipe doesn’t clean at all. I’d try and learn to love it if I was you because it’s beautiful

@Shania7788 I'm not too certain about the handles, I'll have a look! I mean if you're conscious it's quite easy to just use them but typical man DH isn't conscious at all! (As he doesn't do the cleaning) I don't know why I care so much.. the only person who comes in my house is my dad and he doesn't care how it looks!
To be honest my little one is pretty good and rarely touches the cupboards apart from the freezer when she's after an ice pop, and the lower cupboards seem to show the fingerprints less as the light is pointing at them. I wonder if changing the spotlights for just a normal light would make a difference!

I work in kitchen manufacturing. If these handles are fitted same as were I work they look like ones we glue in.

Begaydocrime94 · 27/01/2024 09:18

It’s lovely! I have a kitchen from the 80s that’s not been renovated since and can’t afford to renovate it, hope that helps a little 😂

Mumof2NDers · 27/01/2024 09:20

I got my new kitchen about 8 years ago.Gloss doors! And no I’ve never grown to like them! They look constantly dirty. They do my head in. I’ve started pricing up how much it would cost to replace them, which is lots! 🙄

HopelesslyDevoted2u · 27/01/2024 09:35

It looks gorgeous. I like gloss. I read all the time that matt kitchens are a nightmare with marking

Fupacabra · 27/01/2024 09:43

Oof that's hideous, cold, sterile and boring.

It's probably because it's new and you want it looking perfect. In 6 months or so you'll not even notice the trivial issues that are annoying you like fingerprints.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 27/01/2024 09:54

Ash099 · 26/01/2024 09:31

I had white gloss in my old house. I didn't notice finger prints. Depends on the lighting (that was a small kitchen). I prefer painted cabinets now but not because of potential finger prints. There must be a hack somewhere.

Same here. White gloss and have never noticed fingerprints.
