To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

It's only a waste product once it's removed though.

@Jumpingthruhoops I know how painful periods can be - I'm just not convinced that people don't have a few minutes - sans period - to wash properly, dry and put a tampon in/towel on. That's all.

Do you think women can time the bleeding. And hold it back for the drying off time.
Yeah. You are clearly a man

For the last time, I am not a fucking man!

Yes women can do that because I have done. Several times. Didn't think it was impossible - but clearly it is for some.

It's waste blood, inside or outside.

Truebee · 26/01/2024 20:04

what magic did you perform to stop yourself bleeding by sheer will ?? how absolutely insane 😆

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 20:15

It's waste blood, inside or outside.

And it'll flow just fine into the tampon, no need to free bleed in the shower.

I take mine out but I can totally get the logic of using one if there's a really heavy flow.

Neither insane nor magic. I just did.

It's still waste blood.

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 20:19

And?

Truebee · 26/01/2024 20:20

@Jumpingthruhoops lol... if you genuinely believe you can do this, you need to offer yourself up to medical research sharpish as you are a medical marvel!

porridgeisbae · 26/01/2024 20:25

@Jumpingthruhoops It's not like wee, there's no vaginal sphincter, we can't stop it coming out. https://young.scot/get-informed/period-myths-busted/#:~:text=MYTH%3A%20You%20can%20hold%20in,sphincters%20so%20cannot%20be%20controlled. Maybe you have a lot of unique cognition, among which is the idea you can stop your period blood coming out for a bit when you want to. But you can't.

Period Myths Busted

Don't worry, periods are normal and we're busting eight common myths about them.

Soubriquet · 26/01/2024 20:48

I do consider myself lucky that I can get away with just pads and therefore don’t need to race the shark after a bath.

I have quite a light flow. It’s only heavy at night whilst I’m sleeping….which is an annoyance in itself.

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/01/2024 21:12

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 20:19

And?

What do you mean and? Waste doesn't belong in the body. Obviously.

Well, I can and I have. We're not the same.

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/01/2024 19:53

I'd say it's a lot less grim than having a shower with a waste product still inside you. Obviously.

Batshit.

No mate you really haven't. FFS. 🙄

Tbf there are loads of stupid men who think that women can 'hold in' period blood - wasn't there a thread on this quite recently?

nonumbersinthisname · 26/01/2024 21:19

WaterHound · 26/01/2024 21:15

Batshit.

By that logic we’d all be having enemas before bathing too to get rid of any waste product lurking in the colon

'If you genuinely believe you can do this'?

Not a 'medical marvel' at all. I just can and I have. It's really not that hard.

Oh dear... The control I have over my own body appears to have pissed people right off. Oops! 🙊

Truebee · 26/01/2024 21:21

@Jumpingthruhoops u cannot stop yourself bleeding 😆 no one is pissed off, you're just making yourself look stupid

porridgeisbae · 26/01/2024 21:22

@Jumpingthruhoops Of course in some ways people are the same. There are the basics of the human body which don't change from woman to woman. You might think you can hold in your period blood at will, but you can't. https://www.femestella.com/please-dont-try-to-hold-in-your-period/ These are scientific facts.

There are the basic facts of biology such as people don't bleed to death from a period, even if it lasts for a week. But there seems to be little getting that through to you.

Then there are some things that vary from woman to woman (that are scientifically possible) and you are denying those when other women tell you them, too.

I'll let you crack on with it.

Please Don't Try to 'Hold In' Your Period — Femestella

Recently I was scrolling through Instagram and came across a pretty alarming post. The non-profit organization Period.org had posted about free bleeding — the idea of menstruating without the use of a tampon, pad, or other period product. This allows y...

Actually a bit embarrassed for you now. Maybe learn about women's bodies before you try to tell us how they work? Better still, don't bother as I get the feeling that you are quite enjoying the topic and the attention.

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 21:32

What do you mean and? Waste doesn't belong in the body. Obviously.

Yes and that is why it flows out of the body, in the case of menstrual blood. Into a tampon is fine. It's not some gross thing whose departure needs to be hastened. No need to do anything extra. Or do you hook poo out of your own bum if you think that isn't exiting quicky enough too?

Oh and it's nonsense that you can control your period flow. That's just not how vaginas are built.

I seriously doubt you're an actual female now.

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/01/2024 21:33

nonumbersinthisname · 26/01/2024 21:19

Not logical at all - that's just some random idea you've thought up to satisfy your own weird imagination.

It is waste blood. Not remotely 'batshit' to call it that. Keeping a tampon in when washing, though? Thoroughly batshit!

I actually think people are realising that now, which is why they're getting all defensive. Oh well...

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 21:34

No-one is getting defensive. They just think you're a bloke who has never been near the actual anatomy of a woman.

Whatdoy · 26/01/2024 21:35

@Jumpingthruhoops how long can you hold in your menstrual blood?

And how do you do it?

Also, is it only the blood that hasn’t passed through your cervix that you can hold in, or can you stop it as it runs down your vagina?

So many questions
