To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

Ahem.

Ah, a GIF, very adult

There comes a point when someone is so thick, they're boring.

Are you a 10 year old boy?! Or just actually totally naive about how womens bodies work?! I had very heavy periods for 30 odd years. And shock horror - I didn't die! 🙄🙄🙄

Lucky you if you are female and don't suffer from them!

Seriously, do some actual research before coming out with stupid statements in future!

Sorry, but how is that a stupid statement?

If you bled continuously day and night for 7 days (as in NO stopping!), as many are saying they do, you would become seriously unwell. That's not stupid, that's just a fact.

Not sure why people are asking if I'm a boy/man when it's quite obvious from my posts that I'm a woman. One that just happens to do something differently. You know that's OK, right?

Oh I agree. I often find there comes a point where people resort to insults when they've got nothing else. So unnecessary.

Removing a tampon allows water to gently clean the opening of your vagina that has had blood coming out of it. No sticking anything anywhere.

This is the same as washing the skin of your anus to gently clean the opening that has had poo coming out of it. Again, without sticking anything inside the actual rectum itself. That would be silly.

I can't quite believe that a) this needs explaining and b) that people don't observe this frankly basic level of cleanliness.

Interested to know what people deem unhygienic...

Love, of your tampon is near the opening of your vagina your doing it wrong… it should be 3 or 4 inches north of there 🤦‍♀️

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/01/2024 18:14

pickledandpuzzled · 26/01/2024 15:43

Also not dead. Bled for a year continuously while waiting for the coil to work. Showered with tampon or moon cup in.

a swipe with a soapy hand was plenty effective. Nothing else needed.

I would say two things

  • no one knows how other people’s bodies work so shouldn’t be accusing them of stupidity for doing what they need to do.
  • the vagina self flushes so doesn’t generally need manual cleaning. Unless there’s been a major misplay, leave it be.

No one knows how other people’s bodies work so shouldn’t be accusing them of stupidity for doing what they need to do.

Totally agree. That's why I haven't called anyone stupid. By contrast, I have had several people call me stupid for 'doing what I need to do'. So, your point is?

The vagina self flushes so doesn’t generally need manual cleaning. Unless there’s been a major misplay, leave it be.

So you're now invalidating your own point by telling another woman what she should do with her own vagina?

Yup, got it! 👍

Since the vaginal canal is between 2-4 inches in total, I think you've got your sums a bit wrong. But as you were...

I think she's just telling you that what you do with your vagina is a terrible idea, and bad for it.

Wrong again- up to 5 inches is totally normal.

You're still doing it. How many times can people explain to you? You're also changing your story a bit now we've said people don't die. It's good if you're changing your opinion when faced with facts.

But no, people don't die from having a period for 7 days. Or I would of died at age 13, or 13 and one month etc, all the way up to age 46. IDK how many opportunities for death or serious illness that is but I didn't cark it or become seriously ill.

Because while it was kind of continuous the amount of blood is not massive compared to a human's blood volume.

Obviously if someone has major gynecological issues they can bleed a lot more and they usually don't die then either, though it severely restricts their quality of life.

I also don’t wash inside my nose, my throat, or my rectum. But for some reason, it’s only the vagina we’re told is disgusting and in need of deep cleaning by idiots on the internet.

This!!! Precisely!

louderthan · 26/01/2024 18:56

It's like the washing raw chicken debate. I think that's an American thing.

I know exactly what she's doing; exactly what she's telling me not to do to others!

Respectfully, I think I know my own vag a bit better than someone on the internet.

I haven't had thrush, BV or anything else in my 45 years on this earth, so I must be doing something right.

my point was that no one should be calling anyone, including you, stupid. Equally you should not be telling their people they haven’t experienced what they clearly have experienced. While you didn’t use the word stupid, you made it clear what you thought of other people.

You’ve been really rude and condescending and killed a thread where people were having fun.

Fun sponge.🙂

Not 'changing my story' at all.
I questioned PPs who said they would 'bleed 24/7 - so continuously - for seven days. 'Kind of' continuous isn't continuous.

I know how painful periods can be - I'm just not convinced that people don't have a few minutes - sans period - to wash properly, dry and put a tampon in/towel on. That's all.

Truebee · 26/01/2024 19:35

@Jumpingthruhoops how on earth would anyone know if the few minutes u were showering happened to correctly coincidence with the few mins of not bleeding that you might have throughout the day?

I've replied to those who have tagged me. If they've been rude and condescending, I have responded in a similar vein.

One person literally said they 'had meant to be patronising' toward me. Am I supposed to just ignore that!? Similarly, isn't calling someone a fun sponge 'rude and condescending'?

People can do what they want. I personally couldn't leave a waste product inside my body when I had a bath or shower. I thought it was gross at the start of this thread and I still think it.

If you're in the shower it just goes straight down the plug hole. If you're just getting out and you feel it coming, you stop it with a towel then insert a new tampon as quick as you can. Do you not think I've ever had to do this? It's really basic stuff.

WaterHound · 26/01/2024 19:43

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 14:56

@Menora perhaps that poster is one of those new types of women that do need to manually clean their orifice? Not like us boring old fashioned women with our self-cleaning vaginas...

I was actually thinking this. And he is shaming women for not doing what he does...

WaterHound · 26/01/2024 19:46

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/01/2024 16:25

Bleeding 'slightly' is unlikely to result in death. Obviously.

There's a significant difference in that and bleeding heavily, around the clock, for 7 days, which many on here say they do.

That would be an issue that requires medical attention.

You know nothing about being a woman at all do you? 🙄

Truebee · 26/01/2024 19:47

@Jumpingthruhoops pretty grim to bleed on your towels rather than just have a tampon in

Yeah. You are clearly a man

I'd say it's a lot less grim than having a shower with a waste product still inside you. Obviously.

porridgeisbae · 26/01/2024 19:54

What a waste of a towel. I mean, most people don't wash their towels after, like, one day, but they would have to that day if they bled on it. Unless it was black and anyone they lived with didn't mind. Envy
