I love it, I have bought SO much for the pending arrival, but the offers are ridiculous. I have a mental minimum of £5 that I wont make a reduced offer on, bearing in mind peoples time to package and take parcel to wherever it needs to go, but I seem to be a minority. I have shoes with labels still on up for £4 and someone will offer me £3. Its £1 whole pound, pay it or don't.

Honestly, I'm at a point where even if its 50p request I'm rejecting it now. It really irritates the living poop out of me how desperate people are to get money off when the items are already so cheap.

The problem is a £4 item for the buyer is actually nearer £8 with fees and postage.

If you are shopping on Vinted, you already know there is no such thing as free shipping, on that basis you are expecting the item free?

Sounds like Vinted isn't for you if it annoys you this much.

Im clearly bad at vinted lol. I love it buy everything for my toddler on it but they sell at such cheap prices Ive never felt I needed to make an offer. I do favour bundle discounts though.

It's not annoying me. I'm responding to your posts.

Things are only worth what someone is prepared to pay (including fees and postage). Items that would probably only sell for under a fiver I just donate to charity as it’s not worth my time and effort to package and post it (others might feel differently about the value of their time). You’re probably cutting off your nose to spite your face by not accepting 50p less if it means you get rid of something you don’t want hanging around.

Mnetcurious · 24/01/2024 19:06

@Screwballs Yeah im not wasting my time reply to everyone wanting a 50p discount on a pair of Next shoes.
it takes one second to click ‘decline’, that’s all that’s needed.

Princessfluffy · 24/01/2024 19:11

YANBU OP
I price my stuff competitively and I do get fed up and annoyed with the really low ball offers.

Cramlington567 · 24/01/2024 19:19

I use eBay where you can set 'do not allow offers' Vinted doesn't have that then? That would be a non starter for me.

I just want to list it and forget about it until I get the sold email.

No I don't expect it free. I have an idea of a price in my head and I'll offer what I think is reasonable. For example, I've been looking at some baby items. New they are £7 so if someone has them up used and the total comes to £5 or less - great. If they have them up for what will work out at closer or over £7 then I'll buy them new. Everyone has there own limits hence the offer system. I sell on Vinted too and don't mind offers. Sometimes I accept them, sometimes I don't.

TheHeadOfTheHouse · 24/01/2024 19:46

I generally accept offers, otherwise you end up stuck with the item.

its rare anyone buys from me without making an offer first.

ive made £4,700 in 17 months on vinted

Ligglepiggle · 24/01/2024 19:47

I don’t mind people offering as such but have only ever had hassle from those who have haggled in 50 pence increments when declined. I had one lady do this and then bombard me with messages from everything to postage, how it was packaged and then about how many pockets the item had (after she had received it) Now I just block them if it feels too much hassle and my stuff always sells
i do wish you could turn offers off

hotduzz · 24/01/2024 19:58

Oh gosh you sound like a fun sponge. Get off Vinted if you don't like it and it's cheap inhabitants

LuvSmallDogs · 24/01/2024 20:21

I don't like haggling, so I just look for the sellers selling cheap to declutter and buy it straight off. I can't be bothered to sell on Vinted, I think the back and forth questions and haggling that people do for things that are getting sold for £5 would annoy the shit out of me.

It's just so much fun to haggle over 50p... Maybe you need a better hobby.

I've sold a bit in the last year but I'm done now. Can't be bothered with filling in a tax return for selling a few old clothes.
I know I won't be liable for tax but anyone who's sold more than 30 items is going to have to answer questions.

That’s only if you’re classed as trading, ie with a profit motive.

Mnetcurious · 25/01/2024 00:15

@Screwballsif I turn off my notifications, I wont see the sales I do make, so thats not exactly a great option”.
You get emails when you sell an item. I don’t have Vinted notifications on, but I always know when I’ve sold something. Or just log in once a day to see if anything has sold. It’s not that hard.

Q2C4 · 25/01/2024 04:06

Pippim · 24/01/2024 16:47

New rules. Anyone who makes 30+ sales a year OR £1000 Vinted will notify the inland revenue. It doesn't mean you'll have to pay tax, just that they will ask questions to decide if you are a trader and liable for tax.

HMRC will need a lot more staff if they are going to ask everyone who sold more than 30 items what their selling motives were! I think it's more likely they'll have a targeted approach for those selling high volumes of new items, as they are more likely to be classed as trading and liable for tax on their profits. People decluttering by selling used stuff are less likely to be deemed to be trading.

autienotnaughty · 25/01/2024 05:22

I tried to sell a worm twice Halloween costume for 2.50. I was offered £1.20. It will cost me more than that in petrol and packaging to post it

disappearingfish · 25/01/2024 07:00

You're giving the same vibes as people who complain about the public parking on public streets. Making offers on reselling sites is a perfectly normal thing to do. Just put "no offers on items under £5" in the description.

I never think about the seller, I have no idea how many items they are selling. I assume they are happy to consider offers if they are using Vinted.

I think 90p app fee that the buyer doesnt get isnt breaking the bank. If you cant afford it, dont buy it.

It’s not just the mat fee though is it, it’s the postage and the faff of if the seller is offering a postage option that’s actually convenient to you or you’ll have to go out of your way to some random shop because for some reason it’s the only one offered.

Very much depends for me as a buyer now whether Vinted is worth it. For my own items yes. But for DD, a £4 item is going to work out more like £9 and odds are I could get her something new for that, definitely in the sale anyway. With much easier options to collect/ return if it’s not right.

I never used to bother with offers before but I will sometimes do that now, if I think it’s going to bring the overall price down to where it needs to be to be worth it to me. The seller is of course perfectly free to say no. I also used to be a bit arsey about offers on stuff that was already very cheap but again now it’s more about whether it’s worth it to package/ post for the eventual £2 I’m going to receive or whether I’d rather just give it to the charity shop - and that tends to depend on my mood that day.

UpUpUpU · 25/01/2024 07:29

More annoying is when somebody makes an offer that you accept but then they never buy! I’ve got a lovely pair of leather riding boots that have had about 8 sensible offers that I have accepted and nobody has actually gone on the buy 🙄

Re postage, hear me out here, you could, you know, get it delivered to your home for the 40p extra.

All these quibbles on 1 whole pound, if you cant afford it, dont buy it, it really is that simple.
