I love it, I have bought SO much for the pending arrival, but the offers are ridiculous. I have a mental minimum of £5 that I wont make a reduced offer on, bearing in mind peoples time to package and take parcel to wherever it needs to go, but I seem to be a minority. I have shoes with labels still on up for £4 and someone will offer me £3. Its £1 whole pound, pay it or don't.

Honestly, I'm at a point where even if its 50p request I'm rejecting it now. It really irritates the living poop out of me how desperate people are to get money off when the items are already so cheap.

I get what you are saying, but given the stuff I sell if 9/10 label still on, I dont feel the need to take a further hit on something I've already lost money on but that I know the buyer is getting a great price on. I dont bother reselling Primark, like you say by the time you've added postage alone its not worth it to whoever is buying, unless it was a particularly sort after/out of stock item. Im talking Next/Joules/Barbour/Superdry level really.

Of course, like I say only playing devil's advocate because I obviously don't know what you're selling :) but I do see a lot of Primark/supermarket stuff advertised at what was probably half it's retail price.. after postage and fees it's almost retail again so it's swings and roundabouts sometimes.

Also, 40p is worth a lot more to people on £100 a week than those on £1000 a week.

No doubt, but so what? The seller might also be the person on 100/week. Maybe the 40p is worth a lot to them too.

Even if not, the seller is not obliged to sell things for less than they are willing to accept just because the money is a lot for the prospective buyer.

Screwballs · 24/01/2024 13:56

Heatherbell1978 · 24/01/2024 13:53

I do it if the seller is listing something for a price not in-keeping with what other similar items are listed for. Example would be a Next coat - if everyone is listing a similar coat for £5 for a 10 year old but the one in the colour I want (navy rather than red as an example) is listed as £10 then yes I will make a cheaper offer. Assuming that's the only navy coat there otherwise I'd buy a cheaper one.

I was gonna say, surely thats your choice to buy the ones that are listed cheaper? Why should I reduce my cost if my coat is in a better condition, for instance, because you prefer the colour to one that you are happy to pay the price for?

Even as an example though, we are talking about £5/£10 for a decent coat that we presumably are going to have the kids in all winter, and we're quibbling that cost?! 😂

People will always try to haggle, online or offline. They always have. I used to do boot sales in the mid 00s and people would ask if they could have something priced at 50p for 40p etc.

A lot of vinted sellers price items higher expecting offers, and even if you buy something for £1 it’s more like £5 by the time you’ve added fees and postage. It’s just how it goes. Just ignore silly offers.

Strawberrylacess · 24/01/2024 14:01

Not really a big deal.

Notifications off, offers rejected, comment added 'please do not send offers on this item as I will not be selling below the price shown',

Can't blame people for trying, doesn't mean you have to accept.

It's not personal, they're not doing it to deliberately wind you up.

OooohAhhhh · 24/01/2024 14:04

YNBU at all, It annoys the hell out of me. One woman asking to buy a £4 item for £2.80 then people wanting extra money off already cheap items on top of a 15% bundle discount.
I say no

BakedTattie · 24/01/2024 14:05

I think I’m maybe using Vinted wrong as I always just click the buy now button. I never make offers. Looks like I’m supposed to though! I just think, if you like it and you can afford it, why not just pay what they want.

Oh Im well aware of that, its the sheer amount I put up while isolating from a covidy child over the weekend that means Im being bombarded at the moment. Cathartic to get some room space back however.

I love the ones that know they are chancing their arm, they'll make an offer then 2 minutes later just pay full price in case they lose the item to someone else 😂

Yeah I appreciate it's irritating but unfortunately one of those things - if it's an option then people will use it

Vintedproblem · 24/01/2024 14:11

I've been caught out 3 times in the last month with sellers just not sending the item , presumably not checking the app. I now send an offer before I buy anything just to check they're active and save wasting time, I'll still buy it if they decline

You can message the seller without putting in an offer, that just seems a way to justify a cheeky offer.

Crabble · 24/01/2024 14:24

Really bizarre thing to be annoyed about. You don’t even have to decline the offer, you can just ignore it if you don’t want to accept it. YANBU to decline offers but YABU to complain about it.

The people making offers are only doing what the Vinted system allows and encourages. YABVU to sell on a site that allows offers and moan about people using that function. It’s not their problem you think eBay is shit for selling clothes. You know the opportunity to make offers is there and make a choice to sell there anyway.

Just because you think an item of yours is a fair price, doesn’t mean someone is obliged to want to pay that amount for it. People like a bargain. You’re not entitled to demand people stop making offers below your personal arbitrary £5 cut off, and it’s hardly onerous to turn notifications off and just ignore them.

Crabble · 24/01/2024 14:26

OP no one is saying you should reduce your price if you don’t want to. That is a separate issue to whether they can make an offer for what they think an item is worth. You can reject the offer.

Bloom15 · 24/01/2024 14:27

OP - you do seem to be taking this personally - and it isn't.

Something is only worth what something is willing to pay for it. I personally buy from Vinted and always pay the price shown - but the option is there for buyers to make an offer - you accept or reject/ignore.

The price for shipping has gone up a lot recently so people have to take that into account when purchasing an item.

Poudretteite · 24/01/2024 14:28

YABU
I sell and buy on Vinted. Fees routinely add up to around £3/3.50 - so what you think of as a £5 top becomes £8 or £8.50. That's quite a big difference.
Vinted isn't really for big profits, it's for getting a few pounds instead of giving something away.

Tee hee, the tone of your post with the added nerve of telling me its a bizarre thing to be "annoyed" about (when I said irritated, there are many things I find annoying, hypocrisy for example).

No one is obliged to pay what im asking, they are entitled to scroll on without being cheap.

Ive not demanded people stop making offers under £5, im asking people use common sense, which is thereabout the same thing without someone having to spell out the obvious.

If I turn off my notifications, I wont see the sales I do make, so thats not exactly a great option.

Fees are not £3 on a £5 item, thats just incorrect.

OP posts:
Fluffywhitecloudsinthesky · 24/01/2024 14:32

You can do Vinted however you like, of course, ignore offers etc.

I agree that it hardly seems worth posting stuff from your end for £4.

However, if you only want one item from someone, it's £4 for the item, 90p buyer protection, over £3 to have it delivered to your house, it's over £8 for the thing that isn't worth very much.

I pretty much always haggle, and so do most Vinted buyers, so I'd price to acknowledge that, or sell elsewhere!

RandomUsernameHere · 24/01/2024 14:32

Agree, it annoys me when people make really low offers on something I've only just listed! Fair enough if it's been listed for a while, I nearly always accept if that's the case.

Fluffywhitecloudsinthesky · 24/01/2024 14:33

The fees aren't £3 but the postage is, it's £3.20 or something like that to have it delivered through Everi and most posters have disabled the options bar one or two, so you can't get it much cheaper. So £4 plus £1 plus over £3 does make £8 total for the person to acquire your item.

Sparklesocks · 24/01/2024 14:34

Screwballs · 24/01/2024 14:29

Postage and fees together are. I bought something for £1 recently and it was about £4.90, and that was for the inpost locker - direct delivery would’ve been more.

If you buy something for a fiver it’ll be about £8-8.50 total. Maybe a bit more depending on shipping method.

Screwballs · 24/01/2024 14:38

See I just wont buy anything that is £1 on Vinted, I dont consider it worth it unless I am bundling with other stuff. I never really understand why people will post just one onesie for instance, Im not paying a £5 for a second hand babygro. I think £4 is about the cheapest I have on there because anything less just isnt worth it. When I start having baby stuff to sell, it'll be a bundle and thats it. Far easier. I dont think I could have shifted the 30 pairs of shoes I put up as a bundle unfortunately, would have been much quicker!

OP posts:
Orangeandgold · 24/01/2024 14:51

I do understand wanting to go down from 50 to 45, maybe - or a little lower.

But £4 to £3 or something similar is annoying. Unless the damage is super visible, I would be annoyed. Only because as a seller it gives you hope that someone is buying and then they don’t!

Depends what you’re getting. Yes nobody would argue that £1 + fees for one sleepsuit is a good deal, but I got a jojo maman bebe baby jumper which was used but in lovely condition - so a fiver seemed like a good price all in all.

Also the vinted market for baby clothes, unless brand new and pricier brands, is very cheap. Even BNWT items don’t have a high resale value. So yes bundles are the way to go, but if you need something specific like a cardi/Christmas dress or something you can often get a good deal.

WavingCatsandDogs · 24/01/2024 15:00

It's annoying but it's how it works.

I've had so many nice things I'll take the tough with the smooth.

What I don't understand is buyer protection on top, what is that for?
When I had an issue I had to pay return postage.
