I love it, I have bought SO much for the pending arrival, but the offers are ridiculous. I have a mental minimum of £5 that I wont make a reduced offer on, bearing in mind peoples time to package and take parcel to wherever it needs to go, but I seem to be a minority. I have shoes with labels still on up for £4 and someone will offer me £3. Its £1 whole pound, pay it or don't.

Honestly, I'm at a point where even if its 50p request I'm rejecting it now. It really irritates the living poop out of me how desperate people are to get money off when the items are already so cheap.

It's annoying but it's how it works.

I've had so many nice things I'll take the tough with the smooth.

What I don't understand is buyer protection on top, what is that for?
When I had an issue I had to pay return postage.

Admittedly it doesnt seem to be anything more than a platform fee, which is fine if they were just open about that, business gotta business, but it doesnt seem to offer much in the way of anything more.

I aways reject offers. People generally come back and pay full price. The only time i had a difficult buyer was when i reduced the price of something.

Clothesdonkey · 24/01/2024 15:06

I always offer at the 60% mark (I think it is). I get what I want most of the time.

I always accept 80% offers and will consider 60% depending on how long the item has been listed for.

I just set the price accordingly in the first place on the assumption of a haggle.

When I first started using Vinted I listed things for the price I wanted to get. Quickly realised that’s not how it works! I agree some of the offers seem pointless - had something on for £30 and someone offered £29, what is the point! But that is what people do, so I upped the price to £35 and almost immediately someone offered £30 😂.

This. Simple. It's the way people work. I don't think you even have to reply to offers do you?

Same here. My items are priced to sell, and I find buyers who are obsessed with haggling are more likely to be a hassle.

OP, as someone who both buys and sells on Vinted, I think YANBU.

I reject them on principle, but I am a total cow, I like them to know that one is not amused 😂

I buy baby clothes for my baby.

I make offers on nearly everything I buy and must have saved tonnes by doing so as they are nearly always accepted.

I only buy decent brands like joules, sfera, mayoral, a bit of next, jojo, boden, Ralph Lauren, petit bateau, du pareil au meme, patachou etc etc

These items are significantly more brand new and certain outfits aren’t sold anymore that I’m specifically after. I often favourite things and let it sit there and then offer, or check how long it’s been uploaded for.

I have sellers frequently sending me offers of their items that I’ve favourited. It works both ways.

I often buy just one item for £1/£2/£3 etc as that’s usually what baby items go for but obviously pay more all in, however it’s totally worth it as I love having a good quality and slightly unique wardrobe of baby clothes. it’s rare and an absolute jackpot if I find a seller with my taste in brands/ clothes and can do a bundle.

I also sell my baby’s clothes and always sell very cheaply as to be honest, I’m keen to offload it whether that’s free or for a nominal amount of money. I’d rather it went to be loved by a new baby than hoarding it in piles rejecting offers 50p less than I’m asking.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 24/01/2024 15:20

I buy a lot on Vinted, I always make a lower offer , Vinted encourages you to offer 40% less than listed price so sellers can take it or leave it. Even a cheap item increases with buyers protection plus postage.

Tee hee, the tone of your post with the added nerve of telling me its a bizarre thing to be "annoyed" about (when I said irritated, there are many things I find annoying, hypocrisy for example).

No one is obliged to pay what im asking, they are entitled to scroll on without being cheap.

Ive not demanded people stop making offers under £5, im asking people use common sense, which is thereabout the same thing without someone having to spell out the obvious.

If I turn off my notifications, I wont see the sales I do make, so thats not exactly a great option.

Annoyed and irritated (or “irritates the living poop out of me”) are synonyms and I’m flummoxed by the hypocrisy reference. Regardless, just stop selling on Vinted if you don’t like their system of offers, which does include people trying to get the cheapest possible price for an item and therefore chancing their arms with offers. I never make offers but I do accept them because usually I just want to shift the stuff. So I’ll take £1.50 for a £2 item. Lots of us accept these offers so it isn’t just “common sense” for people to stop making them like you suggest.

peakygold · 24/01/2024 15:27

On Vinted, it is a race to the bottom on prices. Ebay all the way.

Vinted doesnt encourage that, it limits people to that. There is a difference.

For me it’s the extra fees - so I see an item listed as £5 but actually it’s going to cost me £9.54 - that’s a bit jump, so in my head I think I’d maybe go up to £8-9 so offer at £4. If they say no, fine but worth a try. If I really want it I will still buy at full price, but often I just move on and look harder for a cheaper option.

Pippim · 24/01/2024 15:45

I've sold a bit in the last year but I'm done now. Can't be bothered with filling in a tax return for selling a few old clothes.
I know I won't be liable for tax but anyone who's sold more than 30 items is going to have to answer questions.

Is that what they've said the limit is, as I wasnt aware there was one if you are just selling your own clothes. Ive got a huge inventory at the moment so that'll screw me. Im at 20 already

People on vinted want stuff for little to nothing.

I've actually put stuff on ebay recently that i can't sell on vinted and even with ebay fees, its been more profitable to sell on ebay than people offering a few quid for a brand new top on vinted.

BookishBabe · 24/01/2024 16:10

I've just checked my vinted and my offers I can make has changed from 5 a day to 25!!!

RedRobyn2021 · 24/01/2024 16:14

I would rather people made me offers and I got rid of the stuff I don't want than to have it sat about. There's no sense in being offended by offers

ActDottie · 24/01/2024 16:15

Yanbu from my perspective as I just pay the price they ask for as it’s cheap anyway.

But that said I’m in a privileged position where £1 here or there doesn’t really bother me. For some people the £1 off is a big deal.

I make offers on items that have been on there for a while,

swedex · 24/01/2024 16:23

Carry on!
If someone's only just posted then I won't bother but if it's been up for a couple of months then why not! And surely all you have to do is decline and thats the end of it. If I make an offer I'm not offended if they don't want to sell it for that

BookishBabe · 24/01/2024 16:34

Click on the make an offer button and it'll say it on the bottom of the price.

New rules. Anyone who makes 30+ sales a year OR £1000 Vinted will notify the inland revenue. It doesn't mean you'll have to pay tax, just that they will ask questions to decide if you are a trader and liable for tax.
