Don't buy McDs often tbf so maybe this isn't a new thing but 'Big Mac'???

Should be renamed just 'Mac'!

I'm sure they got smaller, far too much salad and gherkins.

DavidHallam2019 · 23/01/2024 21:45

Not just the Big Mac. Check out, well, everything. If it's not shrinkflation, it's outright fraud in just jacking the price up instead.

AnOldCynic · 23/01/2024 21:45

Maybe we've just grown...

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/01/2024 21:46

Even the large fries are not large fries.

Titsywoo · 23/01/2024 21:47

Their chips are far skinnier too. McDs food is inedible to me now. It tastes like nothing. Less salt or something? I appreciate it was never amazing but I liked the odd cheeseburger and fries. Never bother now.

HappiestSleeping · 23/01/2024 21:55

Big Macs used to be made with two four ounce (pre-cooked) burgers, and now they are made with two burgers less than two ounces.

Probably not a bad thing to eat less mechanically recovered meat I suppose.

Are you American?

In the UK, surely the weight would be in grams?

@penjil no, burgers always come in quarter or half pounders in the UK! As in the quarter pounder in McDonalds?

Are you sure @HappiestSleeping ?

I'm pretty sure that Big Mac patties were never the same size as their "quarter pounder" burgers.

Still loads of imperial measurements still being used round my way.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/01/2024 03:42

I’ve just googled this. You’re correct. How disappointing. I am gluten free so on the occasions we eat McDonalds, I don’t eat the bun. 2 burgers and medium fries has always been ok for me. But smaller? Maybe not.

CobraChicken · 24/01/2024 03:56

They've been using the same size patties since the early 80s, when I started secondary school, for sure. My friend worked there and I used to go there a lot. Can't confirm what they were like in the 70s.

CobraChicken · 24/01/2024 04:19

I think half the problem is that burgers elsewhere are getting really big. Not in fast food chains, but restaurant and pub burgers are often 6oz patties now, so of course the Big Mac patties (always been the same ones they use in their standard burgers and cheeseburgers, not their quarter pounders) are going to look tiny.

If they genuinely are smaller, my guess would be that they're pumping water in prior to freezing them. They've only ever claimed a certain "pre-cooked" weight, so that would sneakily get around that.

Jazzybeat · 24/01/2024 05:16

Had one few weeks back first time in years. Was so looking forwards to it as like OP I remembered it being bigger. Huge disappointment. Soggy bun too much salad and practically no beef!

Where do you go for a good burger these days??

lemonmeringueno3 · 24/01/2024 05:22

'Fast food' is no longer a quick, cheap meal as the prices have increased so much alongside reduced portions. My family recently realised that we could have a proper, more substantial meal in a local pub for a similar price so I don't think we'll be going again.

Bigdoglittlecat · 24/01/2024 05:29

I can’t get over the cost of them now. It’s so expensive for shite food. I didn’t mind crap food when it was under a fiver for a meal but now it’s loads!

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 24/01/2024 05:29

I actually had a Big Mac for the first time in years recently. Honestly the size was fine/ the same as I remember. It was on special offer on the app for £1.99 for Big Mac and medium fries. I don’t think I’d buy it at full price though.

I make my own, get a burger press, it’s really easy. I tend to use 5% lean beef but put some cheese in the middle so probably still unhealthy.

😂 I often wonder if this is why the monster munch & skips have also shrunk. However I haven't grown much since I was a kid & I stopped at 5ft nothing 😂

mumda · 24/01/2024 05:38

Anyone got a McDonald's calorie chart from back in the 80s?

They were definitely not quarter pounder burgers. Hamburger burgers.

marshmallowburn · 24/01/2024 05:42

I agree Maccas Big Mac is definitely smaller.

Mandoidi · 24/01/2024 05:51

I had a boost chocolate bar yesterday and the size surprised me, it was tiny. Definitely shrunk 🙁
