To buy this when I don’t know if baby is a girl or boy?

Lighthearted.

I’ve seen an absolutely gorgeous fleece jacket. It is definitely more suited for a girl.

I don’t know the sex of the baby yet, so it could be a total waste of a purchase if it’s a boy. Though I’m sure new with tags it would sell very well on Vinted or make a nice gift for my friend expecting at the same time. I am just worried that if I leave it, it will go out of stock!

AIBU to buy it?

There’s been a lot of debate around whether it’s okay to put girls clothes on boys but aside from that, why would you want the constant hassle of people assuming your boy is a girl.

”Oh actually it’s a he”. Every time you meet someone.

That alone would be enough reason for me to dress them as per their gender. That’s just my view.

Looking again - If it was lavender/light blue as the main colour and in the hood then I think it would be fine for either but it's mostly pink.

And? My great, big husband wears pink shirts/jumpers as does my even bigger son (pink shorts too). My 3 year old grandson would love OPs striped jacket. Was watching a rugby match the other night, one team of strapping lads in pink kit.

Why can’t a baby boy wear pink?

It is a lovely jacket, but perhaps don't play gender politics with your son. He is not a social experiment for you to prove you have no prejudices. He needs his mother to protect him”

Good grief, protect him from what? Our grandson wears every colour/pattern of the rainbow if he likes the outfit. Far as I can tell from photos pre-school send, all of the children do.
No-one has ever called him a girl, far as we know 🤷‍♀️

I just wouldn't correct them. I'd smile and say thanks and get on with my day.

They are strangers and don't need to know that actually, he's a boy. It doesn't matter.

Men wear pink shirts

DS was quite often mistaken for a girl when he was little, even if dressed head to toe in blue. Supposedly he was too pretty to be a boy! One woman even asked if I was sure when I told her he was a boy

Didn't matter what my sons wore when they were very young, they were always mistaken for girls. They could be in brown dungarees and a dinosaur t-shirt and strangers would say she.

I didn't bother correcting anyone who was just making small talk and I wasn't going to be seeing. Stranger on the bus oh she's lovely, how old is she? 6 months. 🤷

What's her name "Kevin". They figure it out.

The only time you need to correct someone is if they're going to feature in your child's life in any meaningful way.

It's just on the big long list of shit that doesn't matter.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2024 12:40

it’s far more common for a girl to be wearing blue than a boy to be wearing pink

And the only reason for that is pure sexism.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/01/2024 12:46

perhaps don't play gender politics with your son

'Playing gender politics' isn't when you dress your child in a way which contravenes whatever arbitrary gender stereotypes currently pertain.

It's if you do that and then pretend the child isn't still either a boy or a girl, or that they've magically changed their sex to match the 'gender' of their clothes.

Sorry all!

I absolutely love this! Beautiful gentle rainbow colours and it looks beautifully made. Go for it OP. 🌹

BIWI · 24/01/2024 18:41

And your point?

toppitytop · 24/01/2024 18:48

^ some other options if you do decide the one you liked is too girly

FizzyStream · 24/01/2024 18:57

I love that cardi! I used to love buying my boys clothes. Now they only wear sportswear 😭. FWIW my 7 yo son told me yesterday that his favourite colour is pink and his school friends call him weird but he doesn't care because he still likes pink best. Fair enough says I.

jhy · 24/01/2024 19:13

If it's a girl, return it or gift it on? When do you find out?
