To go to the shop with Covid?

My friend has Covid. Feeling crap but not at death’s door if you know what I mean.
I text her today to check and see how she was and if she needed anything. She said she didn’t as she was just back from the shops and got all she needed.
I said “should you be out with Covid” and she got really annoyed and said it isn’t the way it used to be and you can go out without a mask even though you are testing positive.
I didn’t want to cause an argument so I just said “ I don’t think you can” and left it like that. She is now bombarding my phone with links and all sorts trying to prove it is ok. I could have gone to get her anything she needed. She insists life goes on as normal and nobody needs to stay home.
AIBU thinking it is incredibly selfish to do this?

In the US we are told to stay in for 5 days then wear a mask for the next 5 days.

My friend is a midwife and recently had Covid, it was not mild for her and so she stayed off work for a week because she felt very unwell. However work didn’t require her to test or stay off, it’s treated like any other illness and depends on whether you’re well enough to work. Which is absolutely baffling, considering the population she works with!

I had it recently and it floored me. My husband had to take care of the kids for a few days, his work weren’t supportive. Asked why I’d tested (because I wanted to do the ‘right’ thing and isolate, especially as I have pregnant friends & those with young babies) and basically said it was a bad cold. It may be for some but wasn’t for me!

If it was me I would get a Resco whoosh or the Amazon one that can deliver food that day. I think you can avoid shops if you need to.

I have covid right now. I’ve been at home (WFH) for 5 days but still testing positive. Tonight I had to go to the supermarket as I’ve run out of food, and I live on my own with no one to go for me. I wore a mask, only touched things I bought, and was out as fast as possible. Don’t see what else I could have done 🤷‍♀️

Tesco whoosh, Deliveroo and Amazon do same day food deliveries fyi xxx

Legally she is right. Not morally tho.

This. Although if she's washed her hands and wears a mask then I'm sure it's fine. There's probably people around that have it anyway

viridiano · 21/01/2024 06:46

Well there's no legal restriction so you were probably wrong to preach at her.

I do agree with you though. It's selfish. She could have infected someone vulnerable, and it was unnecessary as she had other options.

Selfish, selfish

What work? I work in a school and we are expected in. That’s the same for most places. Unless you’re too ill to work you work. There aren’t requirements to test so how would you even know.

I work for the NHS and if I was feeling well enough I’d be expected to go in too.

its universal.

I’ve got an immunocompromised kid and we go to gosh regularly. They don’t cancel apts if you’ve tested positive.

Well. I left tablets at the door for her as she had a bad night by all accounts. I do take I was wrong about the shops but the cinema when you feel that sick seems a bit off to me. Anyway as you say, none of my business and I accept that.

It depends where you live. I have none of the options and live in a small town.

GettingStuffed · 21/01/2024 10:20

If she's well enough to go she could, but she should have worn a mask and ensured she had sanitised her hands.

Pepperpot3862 · 21/01/2024 13:28

What would the mask do? Scientifically proven to be useless unless full medical grade

I dunno but I’d prefer to sit in the cinema beside someone with Covid and a mask than someone with Covid without one.
